About this audiobook

Silver Carlysle has no illusions about the cutthroat movie business. She lives over her mega-star mother’s garage, avoids parties, and writes sharp-edged articles about Hollywood bastards like movie executive Rafe McGinnis, who makes brainless movies, pushes people around, and still manages to charm everyone he meets. Everyone but her.

Rafe McGinnis wants to entertain people and make money, but he’s working in a business where getting stabbed in the back is just part of the day, so while he plays fair, he takes no prisoners. When a movie star’s know-nothing brat of a kid writes an exposé that undercuts his latest project, he goes after her the way he’s gone after everybody else who’s tried to knife him.

But Silver and Rafe soon discover they’ve underestimated each other, and their battle rages hotter, right into his bed. Falling in love with a man like him is the last thing Silver wants, and Rafe can’t afford distractions.

But fate has its own revenge in store.

Editor's Note

Sardonic screwball comedy…

Anne Stuart’s usual sharply cynical heroes seem tailor-made for the ruthless glitter of Hollywood. “Rafe’s Revenge” reads like a sardonic screwball comedy: the film executive who will stop at nothing to get his way, and the movie star’s daughter who wants to make it on her own as a journalist who gets in his way. He can’t understand why she doesn’t just fold like everyone else who’s ever crossed him, and she doesn’t understand why he haunts her dreams.

I liked the story. The narrator was more than a little over the top with unneeded ferocity - just in my opinion.

The narrator was so brutal!! Terrible! Weird accents as the characters changed.

I liked the book, like most of Anne's books, but I really enjoyed the narrator. I always love an over enthusiastic narrator <3

I can't say if the book was good or not.. all the concentration was taken by the narrator! Really annoying. Overacting! So dramatic! The story is supposed to be light and funny. But I didn't get it at all because of the super dramatic narration. Just too much. Couldn't even separate chapters or heroes. Everything is just one dramatic noise..

Except for the swearing, I found it quite enjoyable. Though I realize that the swearing was sort of necessary for Rafe's character.

The characters in the story do not have tremendous depth. The plot doesn’t really either. There are some definitely juicy six scenes and you can pretty well anticipate how it’s going to end. It was OK. I listen to the whole thing.

This is an interesting storyline and a building relationship. FYI, There is sex in this book for those who don't purposely pick books with it.

A Harlequin Romance I grew up reading as a teen 45 years ago because my mother left them around. Here an abusive man in power taking advantage of a woman. Telling her she wanted him. She wanted him, she wanted him. For this predictable genre of abusive romance well done.

Forgotten how she write her characters they come alive, so you can’t help but to despise the sexy alluring son of a bitch, whilst to empathise with her

Dated romance with a misogynistic, and downright abusive leading man. Parts of this story just felt wrong. I don’t think the story has aged well.

Great performance by Archie Montgomery. This story was barely interesting, probably only 2 stars but his reading saves it. I'll look for other stories read by Montgomery.
