About this audiobook

War is only the beginning…

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book four in her Blood and Ash series.

From the desperation of golden crowns…

Casteel Da’Neer knows all too well that very few are as cunning or vicious as the Blood Queen, but no one, not even him, could’ve prepared for the staggering revelations. The magnitude of what the Blood Queen has done is almost unthinkable.

And born of mortal flesh…

Nothing will stop Poppy from freeing her King and destroying everything the Blood Crown stands for. With the strength of the Primal of Life’s guards behind her, and the support of the wolven, Poppy must convince the Atlantian generals to make war her way—because there can be no retreat this time. Not if she has any hope of building a future where both kingdoms can reside in peace.

A great primal power rises…

Together, Poppy and Casteel must embrace traditions old and new to safeguard those they hold dear—to protect those who cannot defend themselves. But war is only the beginning. Ancient primal powers have already stirred, revealing the horror of what began eons ago. To end what the Blood Queen has begun, Poppy might have to become what she has been prophesied to be—what she fears the most.

As the Harbinger of Death and Destruction.

I loved the story I honestly kind of wish there was a little less dirty talk and more of the storyline all together it's still a five star book. I like a good smut book but it just became I feel like a filler for the book instead of carrying on with the story to each their own though. Still one of my favorite series.

Well I'm done now. Book 4 and I am happy to leave it there. To me book 4 does end on a cliffhanger...but I feel like I was invested in the the whole Isbeth evil must stop her thing and this next after war I can leave and sleep knowing I have some closure to the initial risk.

Things that will annoy me is knowing after reading comments about book 5, it is mainly Cas POV as Penelope goes through a change. And that doesn’t sound like a true carry on from this book.
Keiran...not annoying, just gonna miss his reactions and banter. Same with Cas.... and Malick I felt I missed so much, he does sound like a fun character too.

Anyway, great book. More action, a lot of emotion and pain, sorrow...twists and thrills. I didn't understand many things and I needed the explanation JLA skillfully put in through the characters need to work things out. I enjoyed how JLA lead us through a journey, dropping crumbs and sometimes turning around and throwing a whole pie in our faces to keep us on edge. The smut was a lot!!! But if I was Penelope and Cas and full of so much passion and also been held and put through so much pain in their lives...hell yea I would be constantly enjoying each other.

I will miss these characters, but!...I don't need to drag myself through two more books. I like where they left off and gonna add this as a favourite series...well book 1 to 4. The prequel I may read in the future...but I get the gist from spolliers I read and again don't really want more right now.

I loved this series, couldn’t put it down was obsessed. Till I got to this book Casteel character voice is terrible. In the other books even though his voice was done by a woman it was so sexy made me tingle. Then this book his voice is done by a male, it’s not sexy at all voice to old. Turned me off really struggling on this book. Trying to decide if I even want to finish. Loved series till now. Disappointed.

I LOVE this series so much! Poppy and Casteel are on the best. Poppy is a badass FMC that lets you know how awesome she is from the first page. By the end of this book, you are on the edge of your seat and I can't wait to see what happens next!!

The first few books were amazing and spicy. Good story but the last book felt off. Still a good listen.

What can I say about this book? This series? There are not enough words in the English language to express how in love with this story I was. Every character, every relationship, every moment of terror...

    It was thrilling.

Poppy's evolution over the series was nothing short of incredible and incomparable. Seeing someone go from such a sheltered, abusive place full of lies, to becoming a strong and sure person was an incredible adventure from start to finish. To see her rise from the ashes and take control of her life, love, and kingdom was everything I wanted and everything I got ??
Thanks jen! Can't wait to start F&F because I didn't listen to the reading order (no way was I going to wait to find out what happened to Casteel ?)!

I gave up at mid book. Like another reviewer said, it’s just getting repetitive after a while, a self proclaimed powerful goddess who kept getting captured by a false goddess…and so many cliches, even listening at double speed, I still couldn’t get through it. :-(

I read a review somewhere about this book, wondering why keep making books when poppi is overpowered and it makes it pointless. I completely disagree. She's a god. How can she be overpowered? The death and life of all is within her, she IS power.

Over all good book, definitely well written, probably will read the next, but definitely satisfied with stopping here with how the plot lays.

Without question, this has been the best book in the series and I am now going to go through withdrawals while waiting for the next book to be released.

I love this series but I hated this one. We have this unimaginably powerful goddess who can't do ANYTHING against the blood queen? Not only does she not fight her, but she gets captured every other chapter. What kind of goddess gets swatted down like a fly over and over and over. I get it. She doesn't want to be the harbinger. She also doesn't need to be a weak crybaby who makes terrible strategic decisions. At least their was enough spice to keep somewhat of my interest.

TLR - Poppy does nothing aka just do the fn thing! The narration was bad or creepy depending on the narrator.
I had no expectations that this would be a masterpiece, but there are a few things that don't make sense and the narration absolutely destroyed it for me. It's a 2 because I needed to know the continuing story and the sex was OKish.
I won't give spoilers, but there are so many chances for Poppy to just f'n do her thing and it's like she's rationing out caviar. It's a tiny bit and it leaves a pretty bad taste. Just do the thing!
As for the narration, well it just ruined it for me. The female who has done a couple of Sarah J Maas books is normally great. In this she says ether EEEEEthur and I'm not kidding. It's absolutely absurd and drew me out of the story every single time she did it. It wasn't so bad in the previous books, but in this one she's out of control. I started skipping forward so I didn't have to hear her say EEEEEEthuuuurrrr. I honestly have no idea why or how anyone could think that an over pronunciation of a word that is really important to the plot was a good idea, but they should be fired. The male narrator was just ick. I've gotten used to the female and rather enjoyed Casteel's voice so when it became this other person I lost interest. For me it changed how the character looks in my mind's eye and honestly it's not a good look. He went from hot to a really really rude middle aged man who talks down to everyone and smells of designer imposters fragrance. Additionally when he'd offer the female parts it was super creepy. To hear this man moan as a woman felt like some version of a serial killer leaving messages for the family. I just couldn't. So I jumped around a lot. I got the story but my intense can't stop listing enjoyment was dashed and pushed down a medium sized embankment. I kinda wish I had physically read it.

Ending spoiler.. I wanted to love this as much as the others in the series but it just drug on way too much. I stopped at chapter 27 and skipped to the last two. I apparently missed the threesome that finally happened but I'm not even sad about it. She's so powerful yet continued to never seem to learn AND be defeated over and over. To finally prevail only to pass out and have to be saved by being fed yet again and hardly remembering what she did. A very steamy series, which I loved, but it was just too slow. Sometimes enough is enough, get on with it.

Really? Cliche upon cliche and then a badly written threesome. The worst book I have read.

I disliked this book immensely. The fighting, the blood drinking, the joining...I hated it. The only redeeming quality was the female narrator. I thought she was wonderful.
