About this audiobook

War is only the beginning…

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book four in her Blood and Ash series.

From the desperation of golden crowns…

Casteel Da’Neer knows all too well that very few are as cunning or vicious as the Blood Queen, but no one, not even him, could’ve prepared for the staggering revelations. The magnitude of what the Blood Queen has done is almost unthinkable.

And born of mortal flesh…

Nothing will stop Poppy from freeing her King and destroying everything the Blood Crown stands for. With the strength of the Primal of Life’s guards behind her, and the support of the wolven, Poppy must convince the Atlantian generals to make war her way—because there can be no retreat this time. Not if she has any hope of building a future where both kingdoms can reside in peace.

A great primal power rises…

Together, Poppy and Casteel must embrace traditions old and new to safeguard those they hold dear—to protect those who cannot defend themselves. But war is only the beginning. Ancient primal powers have already stirred, revealing the horror of what began eons ago. To end what the Blood Queen has begun, Poppy might have to become what she has been prophesied to be—what she fears the most.

As the Harbinger of Death and Destruction.

What our readers think

Readers find this title to be a beautiful slow burn/action packed poly romance. Some reviewers wished for less dirty talk and more focus on the storyline, but overall it is still a five-star book. The fighting and blood drinking were disliked by one reviewer, but the female narrator was praised. Another reviewer found the book too long and repetitive, while others loved the series and recommended it. The protagonist's evolution and rise to power were thrilling, and the series was described as delightful and well-written. However, there were negative reviews about the protagonist's repeated capture and perceived weakness. Despite this, the book was still considered good with enough spice to keep interest. Some reviewers found the book cliché and poorly written, while others praised the badass female protagonist and the anticipation for the next book. Overall, the series was loved by many, but some reviewers felt that this particular book dragged on and had too many repetitive elements.

Let me start by saying I loved the book, and love the series. It was a good read and I’m all about the steamy parts but dang.. they couldn’t get one thing done without touching each other. -_- It was like 5 chapters back to back and no actual movement on the war..

I didn’t really like this book. Honestly even the first few books were meh. They got worse instead of better. Disappointing as I really wanted something as good as throne of glass and fourth wing. I don’t get all the rave reviews but to each their own.

Can someone explain to me why the Wolven are all dark skinned Black people? why did the author do that? why is the only mystical race thats subservient to others Black? very weird and a huge turn off to the rest of the series for me.

also, they have sex 3 different times before trying to escape the Blood Queen. why?????? why would Cass say something like "peaced out"??? the writing in this one was lazy, and the book suffered greatly because of it. the 3some she's been pushing since book 2 finally happened and it was yawn worthy given the amount of smut crammed in here already.

Excellent series with exceptional narration. However, as an editor, I do wish the grammatical errors throughout had been caught.

Loved this series! It's sometimes a bit tedious in descriptions and pace of events unfolding, in my opinion, but it's also gloriously perfect. The narration of Kerins sarcasm is perfection!

I LOVE this series so much! Poppy and Casteel are on the best. Poppy is a badass FMC that lets you know how awesome she is from the first page. By the end of this book, you are on the edge of your seat and I can't wait to see what happens next!!

What can I say about this book? This series? There are not enough words in the English language to express how in love with this story I was. Every character, every relationship, every moment of terror...

    It was thrilling.

Poppy's evolution over the series was nothing short of incredible and incomparable. Seeing someone go from such a sheltered, abusive place full of lies, to becoming a strong and sure person was an incredible adventure from start to finish. To see her rise from the ashes and take control of her life, love, and kingdom was everything I wanted and everything I got ??
Thanks jen! Can't wait to start F&F because I didn't listen to the reading order (no way was I going to wait to find out what happened to Casteel ?)!

I read a review somewhere about this book, wondering why keep making books when poppi is overpowered and it makes it pointless. I completely disagree. She's a god. How can she be overpowered? The death and life of all is within her, she IS power.

Over all good book, definitely well written, probably will read the next, but definitely satisfied with stopping here with how the plot lays.

I love this book and they are great narrators. Stina is great, but the way ether was said was slightly drawn out too much.

Good listen. Not really sure what everyone's issue is with the eeether thing I mean it wasn't really that serious but I guess I can see why it may have irritated some. Not sure what's up with the narrator switch up at the end but didn't really hurt the story it was just odd.
I love this series truly. It does however get a bit annoying listening at work and not being able to skip through all the smut and I feel like Cas was more like a horny teenager than much else in this one. I am getting tired of poppy and the crew getting played by the blood queen and not anticipating the obvious with her Everytime they see her face to face then poppy playing right into her game time and time and time again getting angry and throwing a tantrum only to feel guilty about it after. You would think by now she would already be expecting some kind of fxckery when it comes to the queen but nope. Still falls right into it and does nothing really that helps at all lol. Good book though. I'll listen to the rest of the series but I hope the characters begin to grow and mature as far as what to expect from this point on and I hope more is brought to the Casteel character other than just a horny 15 year old with an over active libido lol it gets to be a bit much. We get it bro, you find your mate uncontrollably desirable and walk around with a hard on the entire book basically lmao

I loved the earlier books in the series and couldn’t put them down. This one felt like it dragged on forever and was far less captivating. With the others I couldn’t imagine waiting for another book after finishing it and with this one I think I’m going to wait a while before the next book.

This book could have been half as long and the explanation at the end felt rushed and confusing (unless you've read the prequel series- or until you read the prequel series). Then the last bit completely comes together! Can't wait for the next book. I do think the author spent too long on storylines in this book I didn't care about and not enough time on the war of the two queens! It's worth the read - don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the Blood and Ash series. But as a stand alone book, this was my least favorite of the series. The narrator really shined in this book- through all of them - she is a rare talent! The addition of the male narrator to this book was a nice change of pace.

I have really enjoyed this series. There is a good storyline and is well thought out. The only thing I wish was different is the way that ether is said. It said more like eeeeeether and after the 10th time, it got really old fast. Other than that I really did enjoy this book.

This series has been a rollercoaster....loved some moments, despised some moments, overall decent. The female narrator was AMAZING throughout the series. I do agree with other posters about the way she says "eeeeether," but I only got hung up on it after reading other reviews. The male narrator (I know some said he sounds creepy) it was just more jolting hearing it after the first three books were the same female narrator. He's not a bad narrator, just not a fan of introducing a new voice after getting familiar with the original narrator. A decent read/listen. If you can't get into the audio, I highly recommend reading it.

I loved the story I honestly kind of wish there was a little less dirty talk and more of the storyline all together it's still a five star book. I like a good smut book but it just became I feel like a filler for the book instead of carrying on with the story to each their own though. Still one of my favorite series.

Could have been so so much better. Its erotica at this point and cringy. I just wanted it to be as good as the first two. I found myself skipping every dreadful lust filled scene. Hate what Kiran was reduced to. And Cass is a walking hard on. Got it. This could have been reduced and added on to the last book. This was an empty money grab.

I have enjoyed this series, but something about this fourth book really had me struggling. It was too slow in some parts. Hopefully, the next book will be better.
