About this audiobook

An Amazon Charts bestseller.

From USA Today bestselling author L.J. Shen comes a second-chance romance about love, loss, finding yourself, and getting lost in the right person.

Maddie Goldbloom stitched up a plan to ensure everything in her life was perfect—from a career in fashion to a chic NYC apartment to a pediatrician boyfriend.

When her ex, Chase Black, storms back into her life with an outrageous request, her immediate reaction is to refuse him. But he only wants to fulfill his father’s last wish. So even though he’s the man who broke her heart, playing his fiancée shouldn’t be hard, especially if it means she gets to watch the arrogant devil squirm a bit.

What ensues is a chain of events that detonates Maddie’s life—and when Chase’s walls come down, they both are forced to face reality.

They say keep your enemies close. But what if your enemy is also the man you love?

Ava Erickson and Sebastian York made this wonderful story come alive! A cynical, jaded billionaire meets quirky lively romantic young woman. Sparks Fly! Well worth my time.

The Devil Wears Black was one of the funnier books I've read by L.J. Shen.

I really loved how Maddie came into her own and you could see her development arc clear as day. She is the complete opposite of Chase and bless Chase's heart he has no idea what to do with Maddie or what to do with his feelings.

The whole family dynamic was a nice touch and they really brought more to the story than it being a workplace romance trope. It gave Chase another side to his hard and douchebag demeanour, even if it did happen later in the story.

The Devil Wears Black is filled with a boat load of humour, sassy female attitude and so much chemistry you could slice it with a nice.

Ugh, what can I say except that I love all things LJ Shen. Also two of my favorite narrators. Sebastian isn't the best with accents but damn his voice is sexy. I loved the banter between the H and h in this book.

It was cute. I love this writer’s sense of humor. A lot of heavy pathos mixed into this narrative (dead/dying parents). Not always my favorite structure for a romance, but I stayed with it.

I absolutely loved the story! Some ridiculous part as per usual in romance. A lot of LOL parts as well.

Honestly, I really liked this book. I loved all of the banter between Maddie and Chase. I could tell from the beginning that they fought their feelings, but the author did a wonderful job keeping me wanting more. Can't wait to check out more books from this author!

Fun and entertaining banter. I especially liked that neither of the leads were ever coerced into doing something self-sacrificing and that poor communication was never the issue either. The narration was well done by Ava Erickson and Sebastian York.

As usual, Sebastian, York was awesome. He delivered the satire and humor, perfectly as always. Ava Erickson was also wonderful. As for the Scottish accent, both actors were completely off sadly. The story was a typical romcom. I enjoyed this book.

This is the most boring book I’ve ever listened to by LJ Shen. It couldn’t hold my attention for more than five minutes.

Excellent book, it’s actually the second time I’ve listened to it! Sebastian York is one of my favourite male narrators but both he and the female narrator had a cringeworthy accent when they spoke in what was supposed to be a Scottish accent - it was more Irish than anything else, but sounded terrible. Don’t let this put you off though!

Maddison and her personality descriptors were cringe. Like straight out of a wattpad story. Her witty comebacks just felt awkward. Chase was a pretty funny character, with a few memorable quotes. The story itself was good, but personally I wish there was a bit more drama. I wanted the secondary love interests of the protagonists to put up more of a fight for their stakes. Lots of potential character development for everyone had that been the case. Though I did enjoy lessons in the story, were a bit touching. 7/10

Quality romance read. Enjoyable banter. Meaningful events as opposed to space fillers. Writing feels like it comes from an actual writer; someone with passion for words.

I haven't loved all of LJ Shen's books. My favorite still may be The Kiss Thief, but I did thoroughly enjoy this story. She starts off painting both main characters in an unflattering light but things turn around as the story goes on. There were some good twists and side stories going on that didn't feel like filler or a waste of time like some other books I've read. This book kept me engaged and invested. The only thing I did not care for were some periodic crass, objectifying and impersonal language on the part of the main male character such as wanting to "fuck her mouth" and other expressions in that category. It just gave him a douch bag vibe and it felt disrespectful and disconnected, as well as uncaring and impersonal to me. Otherwise, I enjoyed the writing.
