About this audiobook

Since the death of his twin brother, Oliver’s caught between pleasing his fans and finding himself. Emery finds him first.

Emery has never felt more alone. Raising her daughter is both her pleasure and her pain as she struggles to hold on to her job as a bartender and keep a roof over their heads. With no one to help them—no support system—any unexpected expense or late bill could turn their whole world upside down.

Reeling from the death of his twin brother and bandmate, rock star Oliver Smith is trying to drink his problems away. Apparently he isn’t very good at it; they follow him wherever he goes. Also in hot pursuit are the paparazzi, who catch Oliver at his lowest low.

He could have walked into any bar in California, but he walked into hers. Emery helps Oliver lose the crowd, and they find themselves alone: two people whose paths are marked with loss and pain. However, they hold an unshakable hope for healing. They find solace together, but can their love withstand the world?

    So emotional and so good

So many emotions throughout this entire book. This was such an emotional roller coaster, but one that I’m absolutely it upset that I experienced. I laughed out loud, cried, swooned, was angry, & I’m telling you…I felt hatred.
The real world problems & issues these characters dealt with were so intense & well written. I shed real tears while reading this book.
This was my first Brittainy Cherry book, & if the rest are like this, I would be a happy participant in more roller coaster rides.

A must read for any music lovers!
Characters you quickly fall in love with and root for on their journeys through all the ups and downs. Many beautifully written quotes that are heartwarming and memorable. A wonderful story interwoven with examples of the many ways music can become the soundtrack of our lives, give us words to all the emotions too big to express, and a beautiful force that brings people together.

I almost DNF first few chapters. The male narrator tried but could be better. It felt flat in a lot of places an was hard to differentiate between dialogs and internal monologues. There are a few things that happened and then we don't have a follow up on it or understand what the scene was about. It was an ok book.

I loved this book. It delt with so many different issues that are often deemed taboo. Great job on keeping the readers engaged in every character.

No shut up I'm so emotional ????. Every single scene right after Oliver's solo performance had me fighting tears. And the wedding scene with Oliver's dad ??.. the epilogue from both their POVs??..and Reese and Emery...I am crying again. This was beautiful!

Title: The MixtapeAuthor: Brittainy CherryPublisher: Montlake Reviewed By: Arlena DeanRating: FiveReview:"The Mixtape" by Brittainy CherryMy Opinion:Wow, what a good read 'The Mixtape' was that featured Emery Taylor and Oliver Smith. The author covered the topics of 'rape, depression, physical and verbal abuse, single parenting, heartbreak, loss, friends to lovers, and romance' very well in this story. It was sad to see how many of the characters in the story were just that...sad. We find Emery having to endure a horrible childhood from some parents that were simply horrible to not only her but her sister Sammie. From that situation, we find Emery having to care for a daughter, Reese Marie. Oliver's twin brother Alexv[Rock Stars] had died from a car accident that Oliver had blamed himself, which caused him not to want to go on with his life, and there was someone who was hanging on to Oliver that meant no good. But an interaction will change Emery and Oliver's lives, and this is how this author gives the reader quite some read in 'The Mixtape.' The read did cause tears of sadness; however, there was a cry of tears of joy by the end and a HEA. Wow, this was an excellent read!

This is a Amazon First Read and the premise sounded good so I grabbed it. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to its promise. The story was predictable and the writing formulaic. The characters, despite their traumas, seemed generic, especially the 'bad' ones who were just over the top in their mannerisms and speech. The daughter didn't sound like a 5-year-old. Not for me.
