About this audiobook

Dive into this sizzling romantic comedy from USA Today bestselling author Melissa Schroeder.

He is absolutely, completely, and undoubtedly the one man I shouldn't fantasize about.

Other than being my boss, he's too rigid, a workaholic with a checkered past when it comes to women. Knowing all that, I shouldn't think about how his hands would feel on my body, or how his voice would sound when he whispered my name in the dark.

But I can resist him. Mainly because he can't stand me, and he's the kind of boss who makes me think about murder on a daily basis. That's until he shows me his softer side and ignoring my need for him becomes impossible.

No, softer side or not, I have to resist the lure of Grady Hawthorne because if I don't, I'm pretty sure I won't survive the fall.

Warning: This book includes a smack-talking executive assistant, a workaholic boss who has the most amazing...mouth, irritating siblings, a drunken night that ends in jail, and a happily ever after that will make you sigh. Author assumes no responsibility for overheated readers.

Editor's Note

USA Today Bestselling Author...

Enemies-to-lovers is a popular trope, because what isn’t appealing about figuring out that the constant bickering is just unresolved sexual tension? In Schroeder’s book, the heroine is the hero’s executive assistant, but she is far from his underling. Instead, she baits him every chance she gets. The writing is snappy and sexy, and is so vivid it practically flies off the page.

Author

Melissa Schroeder

From an early age, USA Today Bestselling author Melissa loved to read. First, it was the books her mother read to her including her two favorites, Winnie the Pooh and the Beatrix Potter books. She cut her preteen teeth on Trixie Belden and read and reviewed To Kill a Mockingbird in middle school. It wasn’t until she was in college that she tried to write her first stories, which were full of angst and pain, and really not that fun to read or write. After trying several different genres, she found romance in a Linda Howard book. Since her first published book, Grace Under Pressure, Mel has had over 60 short stories, novellas, and novels published. She has written in genres ranging from historical to contemporary to futuristic and has worked with 8 publishers although she handles most of her publishing herself. She is best known for her Harmless and Santini series. After years of following her military husband around the country and world, Mel happily lives with her family in horse and wine country in Northern Virginia.

Loved the main character’s spunkiness and the very steamy relationship!

I really enjoyed this book. My only issue, as a native Texan, is the Southern dialects used. They ping ponged from a Louisiana French Creole accent to the Carolinas and then somewhere in the Midwest. I was able to get passed it because that growly voice can read a phone book. ?

I'm guessing the author or someone she knows suffers from migraines, as I can relate.
While I prefer lesbian romance, I don't mind listening to straight ones.
I did make the mistake of listening to the series in the wrong order. I started with Camos and Cupcakes, then I listened to Juniper Springs. The Fillmore should have been before that.

I reached chapter 7, and still, there was no character development. I'm also disappointed with how the female narrator read the lines. It sounded a bit rough and slow. There were too many words that were unnecessarily emphasized.

The story drags a bit and the narrating is too slow. Feels way too stiff. Took WAY longer to finish than it should have.

The book is not bad in itself but the narrator makes listening to it almost unbearable!

Good storyline, loved Grady and Sydney together. There were some inconsistencies in the writing and a few rambling parts. The narrators were choppy and it got pretty annoying by the end of the book.

1.5 stars really… Ehhh cute idea for a story, but the narrators were awful. Male was robotic with no feeling and she was way too cutesy.

I love this author. I only have one issue. Why do all the women have so low self esteem. And wonder why but don't let the the guy talk to explain

I got to about chapter 10. I had to stop. Reality was definitely obscure. Spoiler here. No boss is going to care if you have migraines. Being chastised and told to deal with it, and then is supposed to coddle her? I have migraines a lot. I got made fun of for going to the e.r many times as a kid. As an adult, you still get crapped on for having them. I'm going on a reality speal over the storyline. I'm sorry. It would probably be a good read if I got past it, but also, the male reader is in different novels that some of the rolls he tries to pick up doesn't match the authors vocabular direction.

Audiobook: Whiney repetitive main characters, monotone male narrator. Storey never ending for 10 hours with no conclusion on best friend and brother lending into far fetched. Sex scenes did not feel natural/realistic for main characters.

It was very predictable and wordy. The story could have been told in half the time. I skipped a few chapters and didn’t miss anything.

Loved just the secont half of it and was to grafic for my taste even then like almost porn. Basically it's almost about sex a little bit love a little bir about family. Too shallow even for this genre. A missed opportunity

I wonder if I have ever spent my time worse. The story has no depth to it, half the time it’ s just reprading of what was said

It was a cute, expected story but the female narrator got on my nerves. I cringed at the insane amount of times the term “my lady parts” was used.

I love the story, but hate the narrators. So 4 stars for the story but 1 for the voices. I normally likes most narrators, but unfortunately these are so bad that I had to leave a review about it. They both sound insincere, and whenever they’re doing the voice of the opposite sex, it sounds like they’re constipated. Too bad, cause I actually think this is one of Melissa’s best stories…

What is going on with the voices by the male narrator?! My gosh!! It is super annoying and takes away from the story. What a pity. Please choose the narrators better. I stopped listening at chapter 14.

This one is so hard to review. I should be 5 stars. The characters are great and the story is fun, but the melodramatic behavior/reaction of the FMC near the end honestly almost ruined the entire story for me… there was zero indication anywhere in the story prior to “the events” that would have made sense for Sidney to have acted in such a ridiculous, childish, bullheaded and thoughtless way. I understand moving the plot along and “needing” some kind of catalyst for that, but the “situation” was entirely too manufactured and melodramatic, and didn’t suit the characters.

Also, the female narrator was atrocious. The slllllllloooow, breathy, nasal, and over-pronounced way she delivered every word of the story was teeth-grindingly annoying. I wish they’d let the male narrator do the entire book. If I were reviewing simply on the narration, it would easily be a 2.

The male narrator was so bad that I couldn’t get past it and it distracted me from the actual story.

The story line is interesting, but I have just about scraped through due to narration. Female intonation needs more work - not all sentences should end on the uplift note. The articulation was too sharp, cutting even in the places where you’d expect a dreamy note. Had to seriously work on ignoring it to follow the actual story line…
