About this audiobook

Oftentimes, we make the decision to take control of our lives — but we struggle to know where to start. We often look in the wrong places… but what if we focused inward to take control of how we interpret our experiences and how we think, feel, and behave?
That process is called emotional regulation, and it happens to be something that licensed counselor and mental health practitioner Deanna Richards knows a thing or two about. In The Emotion Regulation Crash Course, an audio course from Scribd Coach, she shares this knowledge, gained from years of experience as a counselor. In the course, ze defines emotional regulation, explains how to discern between thoughts and emotions, provides tips for managing emotions and triggers, and offers advice for how to navigate and communicate about challenging, unsettling inner worlds.
If you’re ready to learn what emotional regulation is all about and bring it into your own life, look no further than Deanna Richards.

The amount of times the word "emotions" was used was thoroughly offputting. Couldn't keep listening. Chapter 1 and 2 repeated as well so it was just a bit too much repetition in every way.

The author has offered some good behavior and cognitive processing tools. Very good journaling prompts are on offer here, too.
However, as a professional therapist, I object to the use of "positive" or "negative" type superlatives when addressing emotions and thoughts. Some emotions may be "distressful" "neutral" or "pleasant" feelings, but since emotions are natural neurological processes, they can never be judged as positive or negative. Thoughts are also not positive or negative but rather "helpful" or "unhelpful" in moving us toward a values informed life of meaningful fulfillment.
Otherwise, it is an excellent tool for anyone who is committed to practicing these useful long-term strategies.

So I really did like this book it was informative and enlightening however chapter 2 is chapter 1 repeated. After listening to chapter 3 I was expecting to hear, as the end of the track indicated, a chapter on mindfulness and healthy distractions. But apparently that chapter is missing because chapter 4 does a summary as if that's already been talked about.

The course has some good, practical tips on emotional control. Chapters 2 and 3 are same. So, to finish this course early, Chapter 3 may be avoided.
