This was a really hard book to listen to, because it was like I was being acknowledged and heard for the first time. It still hurts in a great way, because now I have some steps to reclaim myself from my childhood of having two emotionally immature parents. If you're conaider reading know that it will probably be hard for you as well, but you will also feel validated, heard, and empowered by what you learn. Good luck. ?2 people found this helpful

As I listened to this book, it spoke of my childhood 100%. It was very tough growing up with emotionally immature parents and I’m glad to know that there’s something I can do as an adult to improve on my emotional maturity in order to attract other emotionally mature individuals. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!2 people found this helpful

This was a great book! I’m going to listen to it again tomorrow and again until I’m emotional mature. I learned a lot about myself and some of my relationships. Definitely apply this info to everyone you meet not just your parents. I’m considering ending my current situation with my babe because I realize that he’s very much so like my mother. I knew someone was off but I couldn’t figure it out & honestly he’s the reason I realized I was reacting out of childhood trauma:( but I’m thankful for that, now I will be able to grow.1 person found this helpful

Oh man, this book is so good. So healing. I found it after long long long years of suffering from an absence of being seen, heard and appreciated by my family. I didn't understand why I was more curious about their personalities and emotions (& psychology in general!) than they were of mine or theirs. This book has helped me ALOT in understanding my lonely childhood and unmet emotional needs. If you're confused about the neglect and lack of emotional intimacy between you and your parents. If you are tired of feeling like your parents emotions are more important than yours. If you're tired of of blaming your parents for being f#cked up, this book is for you. I'm just so happy I found it. I now know that emotional literacy is the way to go. I now have way more understanding of the humans I call my parents. Ultimately I want to love them way more, understand myself more and be more understanding of the world around me. Healthy af book. 100% recommend for those who have felt invisible, who want to learn and grow and be more joyful.
Also, I just read other people's reviews and I'm so happy others too are feeling validated! Aw, yay. So so so wonderful.1 person found this helpful

Someone described listening to this book as having coffee with a close friend who understands you. Reading it hits much harder. Have the coffee with the friend and then read it when you are ready.
