About this audiobook

Robert Greene's previous bestseller, The 48 Laws of Power, distilled 3,000 years of scheming into a guide People praised as "beguiling... literate... fascinating" and Kirkus denounced as "an anti-Book of Virtues."

In Art of Seduction, Greene returns with a new instruction book on the most subtle, elusive, and effective form of power—because seduction isn't really about sex. It's about manipulating other people's greatest weakness: their desire for pleasure.

Synthesizing the work of thinkers including Freud, Diderot, Nietzsche, and Einstein, reporting the enticing strategies of characters throughout history, The Art of Seduction is a comprehensive guide to getting what we want—any way we can.

This book is very insightful on the inner workings of people. The book mention Freud a lot. His views on the psychology of people is relatively accurate, however, his reasonings for the psychology has been thrown out by most of modern psychology over the years.

Personally, I’m not a fan of the hunter and prey analogy used throughout the book. That being said, take these words and utilize them to create relationships, not to just manipulate. “We are all people looking to connect and be heard.” -Marley Gregory

Greene's "The Art of Seduction" is not really a self-help or instruction book. More than anything else, it is a sweeping overview of various historical figures and fictional characters who excelled at seduction, along with Greene's attempts to distill unifying principles and themes from these experiences. Greene also likes to use archetypes to classify both types of seducer and types of people who may be targets of seduction. The book is most enjoyable as a sort of whirlwind tour through various historical and fictional scenes, which can be enjoyable to read about individually, in the way of very short stories. The book largely fails as instruction. There are a few reasons for this, but the main one is that the principles are often contradictory or mutually exclusive (for example, paying a great deal of attention to the other person vs. leaving them hanging and wanting more), and many people and characters in Greene's examples succeed despite violating various principles he sets out. It seems that everything depends on the particularities of the the seducer, the seduced, and the situation. Well, okay, that shouldn't be surprising. But it raises the question of what the book is for. After all, there is little difference between feeling one's way and selecting from a vast menu of different approaches (which have to be customized to oneself anyway) and simply building one's own approach from scratch. The other flaw in the book is that the examples are from past times, ranging from ancient Egypt up through the days of Elvis and Andy Warhol. But dating and culture have changed a lot since the mid-1900s, particularly with the rise of the internet. Greene asserts his principles are timeless, and I can see his point- but for that very reason, they lack the detail and specificity that would make them easier to apply in a modern context. As a person who enjoys history books, I found Greene's book enjoyable enough, but it would not be high on my list of recommendations for a person who wants to personally learn how to be more seductive or charming.

I enjoyed the part that talks about how seduction works but as far as overall this book seemed more like based on manipulation and winning over somebody which is definitely not my style

I'm more about authenticity and if I want to seduce someone it's because I actually really like them, and I do it from the heart not from a place of Ego to seduce someone that I don't care about just so I can feel like that I have I accomplished something.

I have so many mixed feelings about this book, although it was very informative, it taught me how people manipulate others, I had such a difficult time disgesting the facts that people actually do that, how they control others and manipulate them like that. Again it very educational, and I think everyone should read just to know when someone is doing the such to him/her and avoid the whole debacle.

It seems to be The Machiavelli book for seduction, but as it states few old famous stories about kings, queens and writers, it has a taste of a movies full with thrill. After all it still looking more like a war and manipulation than real life seduction
