Description

We have found ourselves in a virtual or hybrid environment, which means our meetings and training have also gone virtual in many cases. How do we create a virtual experience that doesn’t put everyone to sleep? In this episode, we hear from another virtual expert, Melissa Dinwiddie, to share her FUN method – so you can be sure you never have a boring virtual training again. Tune in to Learning For Good — Do THIS and You Will Never Have a Boring Virtual Training Again. What You Will Discover:  ✔️ Find the flow. Ditch the boring slides and lectures. Use an engaging 2-minute activity that involves emotions. And it doesn’t have to be related to your theme. Just something to set the mood for the rest of the virtual training session! ✔️Unlock the meaning. Gather your trainees for a debrief discussion. This is where your group will connect the activity to their daily lives, the theme, or the topic. Lessons stick harder when trainees spot them for themselves! ✔️Name the change. Or… “Now what?” At the end of the session, each trainee identifies their biggest takeaway or insight.  They’ll think of how to implement it between now and the next meeting. Melissa Dinwiddie suggests having shorter and fewer sessions in a week to give trainees time to practice their learnings. As nonprofit learning and development leaders, we want a seat at the table. We want to be viewed as true business partners who can help solve problems. We want to create meaningful learning solutions that fit in the flow of work and yield real results for the organization. That's why in this podcast, we will not only explore instructional design and leadership development best practices, but we will also explore change management, belonging, and influence - helping you build the case for the solutions your organization needs so you can show up confidently in conversations with other senior leaders, subject matter experts, and partners. If we haven't met yet, I'm Heather, and I’ve been in your shoes. I'm a learning and development consultant and the founder and principal consultant at Skill Masters Market. Before starting Skill Masters Market, I worked for a large national nonprofit where I led learning and leadership development initiatives. I know what it’s like to need to develop your staff quickly and effectively and to build the relationships and cut through the organizational layers to be successful. With an eye for both the larger strategy and the creative design process, I've created hundreds of learning experiences - in-person, self-paced, and virtual classroom - and have worked with dozens of leaders to help them achieve their organization’s professional development goals. So if you're ready to bust through the barriers and start creating behavior change in your nonprofit, this podcast is for you. Let's dive in. It's Learning for Good.
