About this ebook

God has given talents to human beings so that they can use them in the service of God, of others and of personal service. Everyone must discover their talent in order to use it to meet these needs. These talents are received either at birth or by asking them of God in order to accomplish his work.

God will reward all those who have used their talents well, because there is a danger of burying this talent or envying others and wanting to do like others. These talents will only be truly useful to God and his service for those who have said goodbye to sin, to the self-life and to the love of the world. To take advantage of all its potentials, we need a radical consecration and total sanctification.

Read this book, you could discover your talent, maximize it and put it at the service of God and his work.

BOOK 14: You Have A Talent

God, as the Creator of man, has given every member of the human race a talent or talents with which to function in His universe. You have a talent! Every human being has a talent. Some human beings have many talents, but there is no human being without a talent.

God has given each human being his talent or talents to help him to find his place in the universe, and to function readily. Discovering your talent, developing it and maximising its potential will enable you to live and function readily in the sphere of labour that God assigns to you. Leaving your talent aside and trying to acquire the talent of others and to do what they are doing or what they are supposed to do will lead to frustration. An ear cannot decide to function as an eye and succeed, neither can fishes decide to grow wings and succeed.

The person who starts with one or a limited number of talents and employs these faithfully to the glory of God and the blessing of man, can ask and receive more talents from the Lord for more service. The person who does not invest his talent for God’s glory and satisfaction will lose it to the one who is more faithful . Besides losing his talent, he will receive additional punishment for wasting God’s talent. Consequently, all who have received talents from God are accountable to Him for what they do with what they have received.

Most of the time, God allows a person to maintain his talent or talents after conversion to the Lord Jesus. Often, these are enhanced or increased in the act of conversion; so that people are capable of doing more, for the Lord Jesus after conversion, than they could do before. The talents of converted people and their spiritual gifts are to be used for the glory of God, the advancement of the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ and the service of man.

Because talents are God’s special abilities that He gives to man to use for Him, they best function in those who know radical conversion and radical consecration to Him. This is because the radically converted and radically consecrated know deep-seated deliverance from sin, self, bondage, the love of the world, the love of the things of the world and all else that will stand in the way of further development and use of the God-given talents. We therefore recommend radical conversion, radical sanctification and radical consecration as the normal way of life for all who want to make the best use of their God-given talent or talents.

    You have a talent.

    Seek to discover it.

    Know it.

    Develop it.

    Maximize its potential.

Invest it in the service of God, man and yourself, and you will be truly fulfilled.

    God bless you exceedingly!

    WHAT TALENTS ARE—1

Talents are special abilities that are given by God the Creator to human beings; so that they may use these to function with in His universe.

    2

    WHAT TALENTS ARE—2

Talents are special instruments of service which God the Creator gives to human beings; so that these may be used in the service of God, the service of others and for personal service.

Believers and unbelievers do have talents. These are received from God as Creator. Talents are not only for believers. Unbelievers also receive talents from God and can develop these talents in such a way that God gives them more. So there are some unbelievers who have many talents.

Believers and unbelievers can use their talents in the service of God, the service of others and the service of themselves. For example, an unbelieving pilot can be used to fly believers to the mission field. He is using his talent of flying planes to serve the purposes of God. His service advances the Kingdom of God, even though he himself is not accepted because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Spiritual gifts are different from talents in that they are special abilities received from God as Father in the Lord Jesus. They are for those who are born again. They are for functioning in the Body of Christ. No unbeliever has a spiritual gift. No one can have a spiritual gift before he has received the power to become a child of God.

A believer can receive spiritual gifts and talents after he has believed and all along the Christian way. The difference then between what he has as spiritual gifts and what he has as talents is that his talents are what unbelievers may also have and his spiritual gifts are what only believers may have.

Singing exceptionally well can be done by believers and unbelievers. It is a talent. The speaking in tongues is a spiritual gift. Normally, only believers speak in other tongues.

    WHY TALENTS ARE GIVEN—1

Talents are given so that we identify the needs of the Lord, the needs of others and our own needs and then use the talents to meet these needs.

    5

    WHY TALENTS ARE GIVEN—2

The day a person discovers his talent, that day he becomes the servant of God and the servant of man in a special way.

Talents are, first of all, to be used to meet the needs of God.

The service that God expects from you is proportional to the talents He has given you. If you have one talent, put it into His service. If you have ten talents, put them into His service. You are expected to use your talent(s) to serve Him.

Talents are secondarily given so that people can use them for the service of others. God expects each person to use his talent(s) to serve others. The more talented a person is, the more he is expected to render service to others.

    6

THE IMPORTANCE OF YOUR TALENT(S) TO YOU

You have a talent which should help you to best fit into God’s world. God created you with a fixed place in mind where you are to fit in His world. He knew what talent or talents you needed to have in order to best fit into that place that He ordained for you to fit into. If you locate where you are to fit in and exercise the talent or talents that He has given you to fully function in that place or sphere, you will be fully fulfilled and blessed, and others will benefit from you and be blessed. There will thus be order in God’s universe.

If, on the other hand, you ignore, minimize or neglect your talent or talents and desire the talents of another or others, you will, first of all, not have that which was meant for you. You will not have the talent or talents of others. You may labour to fit into another situation that requires the talents of others, but you will not succeed there. You will know personal frustration and you will hurt others. Worst of all, you will cause disorder in God’s universe.

Take, for example, a girl who was meant to be a nurse and given talents by God which would enable her to function as a nurse. Unfortunately, she has a worldly and ambitious mother. When she asks the daughter, What would you want to be in the future? The daughter replies, l would like to be a nurse. The mother says, That is just like you, never going in for big and great things. Why can you not decide to be a doctor? So from that day, that child is distorted. She now thinks that nursing is for the unable and sets out to be a doctor. She has no talents to be a doctor. She may
