THIS ONE THING I DO

It is a disaster to ask God to do what you won’t cooperate with Him to see come to pass. Big requests require big sacrifices. It must be

…This one thing I do… (Philippians 3:13,14).

Crooks want to have a doctorate degree in prayer and another in cooking nice and complicated foods both at the same time! Veteran missionary, Jonathan Gosforth, once said,

I am determined never to do what the Chinese can do; for my duty is to preach or prepare to preach the Gospel that will save souls.

One of my problems with missionaries is that they spend very little time in evangelism. They do not know hard work. For most of them, their prayer lives are a disaster. They read the Bible as chickens do. In fact, very few missionaries are working hard. To tell the truth, seventy-five percent of them are working below average. Few work like the Fiogbes. Fiogbe has three all-night prayer sessions a week. I thought of photocopying my own reports to send them to some missionaries and ask them to come back home.

ENLARGEMENT OR EXPANSION

Enlargement or expansion means that a man does in one year, what he normally would do in ten years. Some people seem to be born to go nowhere. They would not stretch themselves, even if they were forced to do so. They will not hurry up. They would not go further than where they stopped. When God has stated His conditions, anyone who goes against them for whatever reason is a disaster. After some time, God may change His mind because He spoke and the disobedient did not heed his words.

The Nyisomehs are supposed to go as our missionaries to Sierra Leone. The ordinary Creole person is easy-going and not given to hard work. The Creoles are a significant group; only a rugged bulldozer, who causes mountains to give way will get anywhere in Sierra Leone. The missionaries that are having real breakthroughs are extremely hard-working. For Michael Nyisomeh, 4 a.m. to 12 o’clock is God’s time. He goes out for evangelism three to four times a week. He is a mad evangelist but highly respected. He is among the younger group of missionaries that are restless volcanoes. He wants to build his residence by December this year. When his three neighbours died of AIDS, he told me, Time is against us. He is an ordinary man fired by extraordinary aggressiveness!

God told Jeremiah,

See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant (Jeremiah 1:10).

There are many things in your life which must be uprooted, torn down, destroyed and overthrown. Take a page of your notebook and write down a list of those things that must be torn down. Until a person has declared war on himself, he cannot declare war on another. He cannot declare war on the devil. You are likely to be your worst enemy! Don’t leave anything standing which must be torn down. Gideon and his men were faint yet pursuing. You must also labour on and on to tear down all that must be torn down from your life. Tear them down from your life. Make a second list of those things to be built and planted. From what do you separate yourself? Unto what do you consecrate yourself? Pray saying, I lay everybody near and dear on the altar. If you still lose the battle to conquer yourself, you destroy yourself. You should make sure you keep and give accounts, but do not give accounts to a crook who does not give accounts. An unbroken man cannot help you to be broken. An indulgent man cannot get you to be hard-working. When you have more money than is needed, there is a big problem. If you have 4000frs when your real need is 5000frs, you never can be extravagant. For the one who works somewhere and has a business enterprise elsewhere, he should never touch the money from the business enterprise. He ought to live on his normal salary. The best thing to do with the first proceeds from the business is to make an offering to God. The sacrifice must first be offered to God. If God accepts it, then it can be put to the service of man. If He rejects it, stop fooling yourself because consecration is first of all offering to God an idol-free heart. Many people think that God is a beggar who receives every sinful thing that is offered. Consecration means placing on the altar of God an idol-free heart.

THE LORD VERSUS THE WORLD

John Wesley wrote a total of 233 books and rode several hundred thousand miles on horseback. Those who choose to serve both the world and the Lord will gain neither of the two . Those who choose to serve the Lord will have all the blessings of God, for the Bible says,

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:33).

God and the world cannot appreciate the same things. Does the world adore those who love God? Does the world adore those who are humble, meek and lowly? No. If you seek the approval of the world, you are lost and your children are lost. What is success? It is knowing God and walking with Him. Paul says,

Whatever was gain to me, I count it all loss (Philippians 3:7).

Woodworth had three laboratories on three continents, he died of drunkenness at the age of 62. He was divorced. He wanted success. He reaped failure. What do you want for your children? People can’t ask this question without first asking themselves, : Where am I investing my life, what is ‘This one thing I do?’ " Many hearts need to be converted. They are saved and justified but their desire to succeed in the world makes them unconsecrated. The only glory that lasts is the glory of the Lord. Ministers come and go, and some end up very poor, in spite of all the money that they have stolen.

The number one problem with American believers is how to get out of debt. Their second problem is how to avoid divorce – which is now at 54.5% among believers. A careful analysis will only show that the world passes away. Every believer ought to practically pursue the knowledge of God daily. The believer ought to labour to walk with God daily.

PRACTICAL PURSUIT OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD AND WALK WITH GOD

A constant and daily confession in prayer that the world is judged and the things and glory therein.

An evident focus on your goal daily.

Ten hours of personal and group praying daily.

Two fasts of 40 days yearly for the accomplishment of the goal.

365/366 Daily Dynamic Encounters with God.

Twelve Bible chapters read daily (Reading through four times yearly).

Fifty Christian books read yearly.

Twelve seven-day shut-in retreats with God alone.

No youth can be filled with the Holy Spirit until he places his desire to be married on the altar. A friend of mine told me that the world values the following attributes when considering the prospect of marriage.

Age

Beauty

Complexion

Character

Dowry

Education

Family

There are mad people in the church with these same ideas. There are some demoniacs in the church who want to go to this or that country, not for missions, but for self-glory. They are going for fame. A person’s God content shows how true his judgment of the world is. Worldly marriage and choices are disasters. If a man preaches one sermon less or prays one night less because he is married, he is a fool. If a man does not run after God, he will soon run after a woman. A man must do one thing—pursue God and the woman will pursue him. Some women have wept because they married women in trousers or men pregnant with and perpetuating the love of the world. Even women who are going nowhere want to marry men who are going somewhere.

If you are not a man after God, you have killed the love your wife had for you. Let men arise and follow God so that their wives may follow them to God. My goal is that by the end of this crusade there should be people who experience the total sanctification of God. This is a holiness crusade. To go about not reading the signs of the time is to commit folly. This is the crusade of the holiness of God.

CHURCH GROWTH

Church growth is centred around leaders. We need to know what has happened to a man lest we pray out of topic. If a bus driver becomes a pilot and his co-workers continue to pray for him as a driver, they have missed it all. I am changing very fast. I used to love flowers before. Now, they have lost their value. I loved all kinds of spiritual songs. Now, I loathe simple songs. I want songs of spiritual warfare and conquest.

1998 is declared 365 nights of prayer and 50 Saturdays of storming the skies for revival in the city, in our work in the nation, continent and planet. Every step of spiritual progress is heavily resisted. It is war, because it is deciding and changing one’s mind. Every step must be fought against. During the 51-day prayer crusade, brother Emmanuel committed himself to 40% giving. He did it only for one month and was knocked off. Brother JTM jumped forward and then jumped 2% backward from the former sum. The battle is always in the mind whether to maintain the percentage giving or not.

…As a man thinketh so he is... (Proverbs 23:7, KJV).

The love of the world in a man is central. Everyone ought to say, Because of the cross my interest in all the attractive things of the world was killed long ago. Are you a consultant for the world? Then you cannot consult for the Lord. When the world says, This man can still help us to build this judged kingdom, they are saying very serious things. God first dealt Jacob, then Deborah, Rachel and Joseph the blow of brokennness. Jacob was first overcome before secondary, tertiary and other issues where dealt with. The taproot of my being is self. Pride is the central neurosis. This taproot must be cut once for all. It must not be allowed to stay. I hate it as I do a viper lying in bed with me. I will take no rest until it is killed and buried.

No one is spiritual if he is a lazy person at his place of work. The believer, who works for three hours everyday at his place of work or at school, will outclass every other person there. He will be exceptional. If a believer gives four hours to his work daily, none of his colleagues will be able to compete with him. He will become a legend. Ten percent of people think once a week; twenty percent think that they think but they don’t think; seventy percent would rather die than think. I have made myself a celebrity by preaching two times a week. Even two hours of work will distinguish the believer. He is a lazy man who hides under spirituality. Counting hours means counting hours of real work before God.
