Praise for Called to Serve
I recommend Called to Serve as a resource for anyone who is new in ministry, those active in ministry and as a refresher to those in ministry who may be feeling burned out. Called To Serve is a book focusing on ministry; with emphasis on servant leadership.
Dr. Morris lays the ground work for the rest of the book by exploring how to recognize ‘the call’ and then strategically unpacks the next steps to fulfill ‘the call’. The book is written from a woman in ministry and could be further developed to include more on self-care as women seemed to be nurturers by nature and how women face specific challenges in defending their call to men and even other women.
The chapter on Ethics is very strong and is needed for religious leaders today. Dr. Morris gives everyday experiences for us to ponder as we are called to serve. While she does not give answers to those experiences, this chapter is thought provoking and encourages/challenges the reader to seek direction from the scriptures and the Holy Spirit.
Spiritual Gifts is appropriately the last chapter in the book. Dr. Morris is purposeful in explaining what a gift is and how to determine ones’ spiritual gift. This is a wonderful instructional book equipping those in ministry called to serve.

Introduction
This book was written to encourage women who have recognized the call of God on their lives. It is also for those women who may be questioning am I called
?
Ephesians: 4: 11 NIV tells us, So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for the work of service. A call to serve others so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith. It is God’s desire that those who are called, lead others into the full knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Women leaders often face struggles, questions, and obstacles male leaders simply don’t experience. Despite the obstacles, women bring a unique and needed perspective to ministry. So the question is, what is ministry? Ministry is about service to others.
Matthew 20:28 NIV tells us, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Christ as our example, came to serve.
Many times when people hear the word ministry they think of, a robe, a collar, and preaching over a pulpit. But ministry is so much more, and women have been uniquely chosen by God to minister in ways that are different from men. Different, but not less powerful, not less effective, and not less important.
So what is it that God has spoken to your heart to do? Has he called you to start a ministry dedicated to feeding the homeless? Has he spoken to your heart to care for the little ones? Offering mothers who work outside of the home a safe place for their children? Or do you have a passion to study the word, and share it with others? Then maybe God has called you to teach others about the gospel of Jesus Christ?
Or maybe God has called you to speak His word. A call to share God’s word through the preached word. Serving in the role as minister and spiritual leader.
Whatever God has called you to do, he has birthed a particular purpose in your life. You were created by design, with a special gift and calling. What God has given you, is just for you. He has gifted you for service. As you grow in your calling and service to God, this book will equip you with the teachings you need to grow in your ministry and your walk with Christ.
Chapter 1
27054.pngThe Call
Before you can begin to understand who you are, you must have a revelation of who God is. We are often self-focused. Whether you have a high or a low view of yourself, such self-concern is sinful. Not only will it prevent you from truly loving others, but it will prevent you from standing in awe of God and worshipping Him. The highest calling that we have
