Most of us are born into a world with lots of expectations for us. We are told how we are supposed to dress and what kind of careers to pursue. We are encouraged to follow the rules and do as we are told. I grew up being told that the only acceptable path is the one that is ‘safe’ and reliable: be heterosexual, pursue higher education, get married, pop out some kids, retire at 65, and then die. Yikes! While we all grew up in households with varying degrees of appreciation for the arts, the medicine of honouring your creative spirit is one that will benefit you no matter where you are on your journey.
