    SOME THOUGHTS ON TIME

    1

    SOME THOUGHTS ON TIME

Time is one of the greatest gifts that God has given to man.

God is so good that He has given every human being the same number of hours each day, that is, twenty-four.

God has no favourites as far as time is concerned. He has not given some people ten hours a day, others fifteen, and others twenty-four.

Time is a very perishable gift.

People may vary in natural and spiritual endowments, but what ultimately makes a difference between them at the human level is how they used the time that God gave them.

Your time is not yours. It is God-given. It is God-vested.

Each person meets each second, minute, hour and day twice. He meets it the first time when it comes upon him. He will meet it the second time at the Judgment Seat of Christ to give account for that second, minute, hour and day.

Much money can be gained in a short time. Time cannot be gained that way.

Every second, minute, hour or day that is lost is lost for ever.

A fool may waste money but the greatest fool wastes time.

The easiest way to lose time is to do it one second at a time.

I once met a fool, a great fool, the greatest fool. He wasted a second every second and soon found out that in a month of thirty days, he had wasted 259,000 seconds.

the enemy ensures that he steals your time one second at a time and, in that way, prevents you from realizing it. It is neat and skilful stealing.

The person who wastes fifteen minutes every hour will waste twenty-five years if he lives to be one hundred years old.

A man who sleeps eight hours a day and lives to be seventy-five has actually spent one-third of his entire life sleeping, that is, twenty-five years.

The believer who tithes his time should give God 2.4 hours every day and 16.8 hours every week.

The believer who is taking God more seriously should give God not only a tithe or ten per cent of his time, but also an offering of five per cent. In this way, he will give God 3.6 hours each day.

The believer who gives God a tithe or ten per cent has 20.4 hours each day left for him to decide how to invest.

The believer who gives God less than 2.4 hours of his time a day is stealing from God.

Those who do not tithe their time and money are robbing God. If they tithe only money, they rob God. If they tithe only their time, they rob God.

Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say ‘How are we robbing thee?’ In your tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, for robbing me; the whole nation of you (Malachi 3:8-9).

God cannot demand from a man a tithe and an offering that does not include a tithe and an offering of his time.

Those who give God a tithe of their time and an offering of it will find that they are blessed, for God has said, Bring the full tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house; and thereby put me to a test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you an overflowing blessing. I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil; and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts. Then all the nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts (Malachi 3:10-12).

Those who give God a tithe and an offering of their time, are putting God to the test positively. He will respond to the test and do the following for them:-

He will open heaven for them and pour down an overflowing blessing on them in all ways possible.

He will rebuke the devourer for them: the devourer through sickness during which they cannot work, the devourer through accidents that waste time, and every other type of devourer of time. All of them will be rebuked so that the remaining time is safe.

He will rebuke the destroyer of your soil so that you do not invest where you will not harvest, so that you will not serve employers who will not pay you, so that you do not farm on land that will not yield crops, so that you will not waste time going to see people who are not at home. He will rebuke the destroyer of people coming to loiter in your home. He will rebuke the destroyer of your wife, children, friend, friends and relatives getting sick so that you have to spend time going to the hospital, and all the like.

He will bless the time you give Him so that abundant fruit accrues from it for the coming Kingdom and glory.

He will bless the rest of your time in such a way that your concentration and capacity to understand are improved. You will be able to do in one hour what would normally have needed two, three or four hours. You may be able to do in one hour what it may take one year, five years or even ten years to do. I will illustrate it. If God intervenes supernaturally, a man could in one minute receive the formula for improving his business and move from the red to the black, a thing which by working at the current rate, he might not have been able to do in ten years. A Christian scientist may be given an idea in one minute that could cause him to move ten years ahead in his researches. A believer could be given the spiritual gift that he needs in a matter of seconds, and with that gift he could accomplish in one month what he might never have accomplished in twenty years. God could send someone to bring the answer to you which you have sought for for years, and which will immediately open doors of spiritual blessing.

He will bless you with good health. You could be sick and unproductive for a long time. God’s blessings of health means that He has given you more time for work.

He will make you younger and stronger even in your old age. I was privileged to meet and fellowship with that prince of God, Dr. Lester Sumrall. He was strong and healthy at seventy-six and still putting in over fourteen hours of hard work each day. Perpetual youthfulness and perpetual strength are in the Lord’s hands. He gives them to whom He wills. He reserves them for those who have put Him to the test.

He will give you long life. You could die at twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety, one hundred. Who makes the final decision? God, of course! If instead of letting you die at fifty, He lets you live in perpetual youthfulness until you are one hundred, then He has doubled your lifespan. God will be no one’s debtor. He has promised to bless. He will bless. He must bless. He says, Put me to the test. Put Him to the test and see if He will fail. He cannot fail. No! He cannot. Glory be to His holy name!

Wiser people give God a first tithe of their time, then a second tithe and then a third tithe, and so on; in that way they make even greater progress.

SOME THOUGHTS ON TIME IN THE AUTHOR’S LIFE

Time is one of the most precious gifts that God has given me.

I will give account on Judgment day for the way I have used every minute since I believed in Him.

Anything that wastes my time is an enemy. I must get rid of it.

Anyone who wastes my time is an enemy. I must avoid him.

If anyone is wasting my time, I must say so at once. Lord, give me the boldness to talk straight to the person instead of praying that he should be touched by You to go away.

All who love me should help me to conserve my time and use it properly.

All who love me should remind me of any occasion during which I am being undisciplined with time. Lord, help them to minister to me in this way.

The end of this fast signals the end of all indulgence with time until the Lord Jesus comes.

I commit myself, in the name of the Lord Jesus, to make a timetable for each day and to keep to it, except under very special circumstances when God intervenes. Lord, enable me to be faithful.

In the name of the Lord Jesus, I commit myself to set a goal for each day and to ensure that it is accomplished. I refuse to make any day a matter of routine.

I commit myself, in the name of the Lord Jesus, to seek God’s will for the day ahead and to establish the timetable according to what He shows me.

Lord, because the timetable for each day will be established according to Your Rhema, I will resist all that will come to disturb it, with full force. Lord, grant me the needed strength of character to accomplish this desire. However, I pray, Lord, that You should make me discern when You are introducing something into the programme that was not there before. In such cases, Lord, enable me to accept the change with joy.

Lord, in the name of the Lord Jesus, I commit myself, to the following distribution of my time during the University term time:-

10 hours for You, my Lord.

7 hours for the practice of my tent-making - teaching at the University.

7 hours for myself - sleep, eating, and so on.

Lord, in the name of the Lord Jesus, I commit myself to the following working hours on Saturdays, Sundays, Public Holidays, Christmas Vacation, Easter Vacation and the Long Vacation:

18 hours for You, my Lord,

    6 hours for myself.

Lord, grant that the 10 hours that are reserved for You during working days be spent as follows:

    5 hours with You and

    5 hours for You,

that is 5 hours spent in prayer, Bible reading and in waiting and ministering to You, and 5 hours spent in ministering to Your children and to those who are yet to become Your children.

Lord, grant that the 18 hours that will be given to You during week-ends and the holidays be distributed as follows: 8 hours with You and ten hours for You.

Lord, grant that my body should adapt to finding 4 hours of sleep a day more than sufficient, that is, 3 hours at night and 1 hour in the day.

In the name of the Lord Jesus, I say; Woe to the spirit of indiscipline with time. You have no part in me.

Lord, help me to co-operate with You and so remain delivered all the time. I refuse to co-operate in any way with indiscipline in the use of time.

I commit myself to give account to God of every fifteen minutes of my life. I commit myself to break up my day into 96 periods of 15 minutes and carefully use each one to the glory of God, and give Him daily accounts.

I commit myself to carry a notebook in which I record how the day is being spent, so that my account to You at the end of the day will be true and honest.

Lord, enable me to ask myself the following questions and receive a clear answer before I go to any place:

What will I record that the time was spent for?

    Is it absolutely necessary?

Will I satisfy the heart of God by going there?

Will going there contribute to the one task of accomplishing the call of God on my life?

Lord, give me the courage to face these questions squarely.

Give me the courage to give honest answers to them.

Give me the courage to act accordingly, regardless of who is hurt by my action. Lord, I commit myself to hurt everyone else, if need be, but, Lord, forbid that I ever hurt You.

In the name of the Lord Jesus, I refuse to accept the spirit of tiredness while there is still strength in me to work. I refuse all premature evidence of tiredness.

Lord, perform a miracle in my body so that each sleeping hour will be equal to two, so that I will always be strong and fully alert.

Lord, grant that when I am tired I should have a ten-minute nap which will cause strength, freshness and full vigour to return to my whole body.

In the name of Jesus, I refuse to repeat what I have heard from one person to another, since this will consume time
