Diary of a Piglin Book 1 - Mark Mulle

    Day 1

Well, where do I start? I don’t even know why I agreed to this, but anyway my mom told me it would be a good idea to put all my thoughts down on paper and write about my day in a diary. She said it will help me concentrate and focus.

I’ve always found it hard to concentrate since I was a little kid, so I shall give this a try. Anyway, my name is Calvin and I’m 17 years old – soon to be 18! My birthday is tomorrow, by the way. I live with my mom, Willow, and I have never met my dad. My mom doesn’t talk much about my dad. I always wanted to know more about him, to meet him. Sadly, every time I mention him, my mom changes the subject. She openly says that she refuses to talk about it until the time is right.

My only question is, when is the right time to talk about it?

So, who am I? Uh, like I said, I lack concentration. I lose focus all the time, and I’m easily distracted by things around me. My mom always says that I live on the moon, even though I have no idea what that means. What is a moon to begin with?

We live in a biome called Crimson Forest, but we just call it Crimson. Life is good around here. We eat pork chops and Crimson Fungi for all our meals, we live in peace with our neighbors (the Skeletons), and we don’t have any enemies or suffer at the hands of predators.

When I was younger, my mom told me stories of long-lost beasts who roamed the land of the Nether, causing chaos in their path and setting the world ablaze. That’s the reason why the Nether is filled to the brim with lava these days, but I never cared much about the lava. Honestly, I think it fits perfectly in the Nether.

Plus, it’s quite warm and keeps the temperature stable. I can’t imagine living in a cold or freezing environment! I’m glad I don’t have to deal with any of that around here.

Well, I guess I’ve written a lot about me. I think I will continue writing about my daily life from now on, but it will depend on how focused I am. I hope I don’t forget to write in this diary in a day or two…

    Day 2

Hello, diary! I haven’t forgotten about you! That’s a miracle, to be honest. I usually forget things all the time. However, I did not forget about my birthday!

I woke up with my mom singing Happy Birthday, holding a beautiful pork chop cake in her hands.

Happy Birthday, son! You’re finally 18! Time flies so fast… She said.

Thank you, Mom! That cake looks delicious Mom!

Come on, wash up and we’ll have cake for breakfast, Mom said smiling.

The cake was delicious, by the way. My mom is a great cook!

In the afternoon, she asked me to go buy pork chops because she had used them all up preparing the cake. I left home with enough money for 10 chops. On the way to the store, I saw a shiny pair of boots being sold at a shop and when I stopped by and asked for the price, the owner told me they were worth 50 gold nuggets.

Fifty gold nuggets? That’s crazy! I’ve never seen anything so expensive! I told him.

Well, it’s not an ordinary pair of boots, boy. It’s a golden boot, the owner replied.

Oh… That’s why they are so shiny and attractive,

Of course, I left the store because I didn’t have enough money to buy the golden boots. I will be saving my money to buy them though. My mom says I should invest into something else, but I won’t give up until I have the boots I want!

Gosh… golden boots? Really? No Piglins need those, my mom       exclaimed.

But golden boots are amazing! Did you see how shiny and beautiful they are?

Yeah, yeah… Always that fanaticism towards golden objects… You are exactly like your father. It’s impressive how genetics repeat, she said.

I can’t say whether she was right or wrong about that, because I’ve never met my dad, like I said before. He left a long, long time ago.

    I wouldn’t know, Mom… I don’t know much about my dad, do I? I said.

Gosh… I knew this day would come, Mom sighed

    What do you mean?

Son, you are 18 years old. I think it’s time I tell you a bit more about what happened to your father. She said.

Yeah, I would love to hear it! I anxiously replied.

Your father was hired by some Piglins. It was a onetime job. All your father had to do was transport a cargo of Golden Nuggets to the Triad Bastion, the most important Bastion in the Nether. He was accompanied by two other Piglins. But then he mysteriously disappeared. She told me with tears in her eyes.

Disappeared? Like, in a puff of smoke? Never to be seen again? I asked her.

Yes. He just vanished. His last words to me were ‘Honey, I’ll be back soon. Take good care of little Calvin’. I have been waiting for him ever since. But I fear something bad has happened to him, Mom said.

That’s so weird… Do you think he was kidnapped? I don’t know. Later that week, Piglins from the Triad Bastion came to our house to interrogate me. They said your father ran away with the Golden Nuggets; that he stole them all and shared them with the other two Piglins. It’s a lie! I know your father loved golden objects, but he always had a very good and honest heart. He would never steal what isn’t his, not in a million years.

I feel that way, too. I could never steal anything from anyone, I said.

I begged them to search for him, to start an investigation. But no one believed me. Even the local Piglin police refused to go after him. My mother was crying while she talked.

Why would they refuse to investigate the case? Even the police! That can’t be right… It’s their job to search for missing people! I said.

I know, but they said he was last seen near the Warped Forest. You know Piglins are forbidden from entering the Warped Forest. Mom said.

I know, but I will talk to them again. It has been so long. They can’t bury the case and call it a day! I will go talk to them! I said, getting up from my chair.

No! Calvin, promise me you won’t talk to the police. Please, let it go. You have no idea how much pain I endured back then. I tried so many times; I was turned down every single time. The police refused to listen to me. My mother begged me to stay. Promise me you won’t talk to them about this. If you do, they will get mad at us and who knows what could happen!

Fine! I won’t go there. I promise, I said, sighing heavily.

Thank you, son. I feel much better now…

Mom didn’t know that I had made that promise with crossed pinkies behind my back. I am determined to break that promise and go to the police station tomorrow. I must ask them about my dad! How could I ignore the fact that the police overlooked my dad’s case?

I know Piglins are afraid of the Warped Forest because in the past, the creepy Endermen captured many Piglins. Since then, no one dares step into their area. But regardless of old tales, the police must search for clues about what happened to my dad. I can’t let them close the case!

    Day 3

I decided to discover my dad’s whereabouts, so I went to the Piglin Police Station today. Things didn’t go as planned though diary. First, the Piglin Officers didn’t treat me with the respect I deserved. Second, they ignored my claims and denied my request!

Hello. I would like to talk to someone about a missing person’s case, I said at the Piglin Police Station reception desk.

Sure thing. Give us the details. Full name, age, height, weight and when the person disappeared. The Piglin Officer said.

Well… the full name is Carl Jenkins, and he was 30 years old when he went missing… I guess he is 48 years old now, I said.

Wait a minute. Did he disappear 18 years ago? The Piglin Officer seemed surprised.

Yeah, I replied reluctantly. But listen to me – no one ever opened up his case. You must investigate what happened!

"Sorry. That is way beyond the timeframe for a missing
