Diary of a Piglin Book 8 - Mark Mulle

    Day 1

If you asked me a month before if I ever imagined myself riding on the back of a giant Dragon, travelling through lava in the middle of nowhere, I would have said, What a crazy idea!

But that’s exactly what I did, my diary! I had never dreamed of doing anything remotely close to this. D’vart, the Nether Dragon, has offered to help us with our mission.

The quest, albeit simple in theory, is a complex one. D’vart needs us to bring the Ender Dragon (yes, the same Ender Dragon that inhabits The End) to the Nether, where the creature will be reunited with his kin.

Who knew the Ender Dragon was actually a Nether Dragon corrupted by the dark magic of Endermen? I certainly didn’t. But as I said before I don’t know if we can pull it off.

This mission has to be the hardest thing we have ever done as a group. Come to think of it, my diary; Johansson, Beatriz, Peter and I have been through a lot. I mean, Peter wasn’t there when we destroyed the Triad Bastion and defeated evil Professor Murray, but he helped us when we went after Barry, the corrupt Police Officer.

We also saved Minerland from the evil-minded Triad Society. It was the group that tried to take over the Overworld after tampering Johansson and Beatriz’ machine. Now we have a new mission ahead of us, and this one is unlike anything we have dealt with before.

We have never faced such a strange threat before. Capturing the Ender Dragon is such a novel mission that we don’t know how to pull it off safely and quickly. Perhaps the Nether Dragon’s new leader, Krop, might have the answer.

In the meantime, we can only hope that we can help them. The Nether Dragons are at risk of disappearing forever in a few years’ time, unless their original leader (also known as The One) returns to the Nether.

    Day 2

Riding on the back of a 40-feet-long feathered Dragon through a lava-filled ocean with boiling temperatures is not as fun as it sounds. It’s extremely boring and tiring.

Are we nearly there? I’m almost falling asleep here, Johansson said.

The warmth of lava around us is actually quite comforting, inducing me to sleep Peter agreed.

We’re almost there. Don’t worry. The Nether Farlands are far from everything else, so the time it takes to get anywhere is extended, D’vart replied.

Several minutes later, D’vart emerged from the lava. We looked around, and the Nether seemed normal once again.

Are we off the Nether Farlands now? I wondered.

Yes. Although we are also far from the place you call home, this is about halfway through the Nether Farlands. Welcome to Krop’s lair. D’vart landed on a big Crying Obsidian island.

I cannot believe what I’m seeing with my own eyes. Please tell me this is real? Johansson muttered.

What is it, Johansson? Are you talking about this island made from Crying Obsidian? I asked him.

So I’m not the only one who can see it! Johansson shouted. Is this really a Crying Obsidian island? Like, how… Johansson kneeled on the ground, touching the Crying Obsidian under our feet with his bare hands.

The Crying Obsidian certainly is a powerful block. It is formed when Nether Dragons perish, D’vart explained.

Johansson immediately stopped touching the Crying Obsidian.

    Wait, come again?

You heard me right. Crying Obsidian is formed when a Nether Dragon perishes. This whole island was the lair of my friends, many centuries ago. One by one, they perished due to old age, weakened by the lack of a Leader Dragon. As I said before, there are only a handful of us remaining in this world - Krop being one of them, D’vart said sadly.

That’s a shame. Are you telling me all Crying Obsidian blocks we find in the Nether are actually the remnants of Nether Dragons? Just like those Ancient Bones? I asked him.

Correct. Both the Ancient Bones and the Crying Obsidian belonged to one of ours.

Impressive. It was rare, but we did find quite a decent amount of Crying Obsidian and Ancient Bones back in our exploration days, I said. I can only imagine how heavily populated the Nether was with Nether Dragons back in the day.

We had thousands of Nether Dragons peacefully coexisting with the other Nether creatures. In fact, the Nether Dragons kept the balance in the Nether like no other creature. Some Nether species disappeared after the Nether Dragon’s near extinction, like the ancient Nether Creeper.

    Nether… Creeper? Johansson wondered.

Yes. A creature similar to the Creeper found in the Overworld. The Nether Creeper lived in the Nether some 500 years ago. They went extinct after the Nether Dragons retreated to the fare ends of the Nether because the Dragons were the ones who kept those creatures alive. You see, Nether Creepers fed on old feathers.

How come we have never found any evidence of those creatures? Johansson wondered.

Just like the Creeper in the Overworld, the Nether Creepers were prone to exploding upon reaching their life expectancy. There wasn’t much left after said explosions occurred, D’vart replied.

That makes sense. Anyway, we’re here to see Krop. I can’t wait to meet the current leader of the Nether Dragons, Johansson said. Where is he?

Do you see that small hut over there, in the middle of the island? D’vart indicated with his head. That’s where Krop lives. I shall remind you all not to make fun of his appearance. Also, please remember that Krop does not like humans. I will do my best to convince him to speak to you all, but you have been warned.

We understand. I know he has some hatred towards humans and doesn’t trust us because of what happened many centuries ago, but we’re different. We’re here to save the Nether Dragons. Johansson said.

Come with me then. Let’s talk to Krop, D’vart said.

We approached the humble hut on the Crying Obsidian Island.

Krop, are you there! Please step outside. I have some visitors for you. They need your assistance, D’vart shouted.

I was so nervous that I could barely stand still. My legs were trembling. I had no idea what to expect, but I knew I had to respect Krop; otherwise, we wouldn’t be able to complete the mission.

May I call for him? Johansson asked D’vart.

Absolutely. I’m not sure if he will reply to you, though. But go ahead, D’vart nodded.

Krop, my name is Johansson Armstrong; I’m a scientist from the Overworld. Yes, I know, a human. You must be thinking, ‘that guy is insane; I’m not going to speak to a silly human. But trust me, Krop, I’m here to help you. However, I also need your help.

A Hoglin came out of the hut. Johansson looked at the Hoglin, confused.

Does Krop have a pet Hoglin or something? I mean, it’s kind of cute. I would have one too if I lived in the Nether, Johansson said.

Human… how dare you! The Hoglin replied. How dare you call me a ‘pet’? If only I had my Dragon claws and my fire breath, I would turn you into a crispy snack right on the spot!

Johansson was shocked, along with the rest of us!

Apologies, Sir. I did ask them to be polite, but I do not know what just happened here. D’vart said.

"Come on now, D’vart! You know I despise these two-legged creatures more than anything in the whole world. Why would you bring them here before me? They are the Enemy!" Krop shouted.

They are also the solution, sir. I do not care how much you hate them. I do know that despite being from the same species as those who took The One to the Overworld. They are also the only ones who can bring him back, D’vart said. We have had this conversation time and time again. Sir, with all due respect, this is no time and no place for another argument.

I won’t get rid of you because there aren’t many of us left, D’vart. But you test me, Krop said. You continuously go against my orders.

You can punish me once we are done with this. However there are more pressing matters at this moment. Don’t you agree? D’vart said. "Now, all I ask is that you
