Diary of a Piglin Book 6 - Mark Mulle
Day 1
I have just returned to the Nether after spending a few days dealing with Officer Barry in Minerland, where Johansson and Beatriz live. Thankfully, Peter and I managed to get there in the nick of time shortly before disaster struck and Barry flooded the entire city with his Explosive Potions.
Barry belonged to a group called Triad Society,
whose aim is to destroy everyone opposing the Triad Bastion (or what’s left of it) and cause massive destruction across the Nether and the Overworld.
My dad, the city Mayor, told me to take a rest and relax after our recent trip. He says I’ve been working too hard and I deserve a good break. But I can’t take even one day off. How can I rest knowing that evil forces are working in the darkest corners waiting for the perfect opportunity to attack my friends in the Overworld and the Piglins in the Nether?
It would be unwise of me, the Detective of Crimson City, to postpone this urgent investigation and ignore the menace that is the Triad Society.
Unfortunately, we have no clue whatsoever of the Triad Society’s whereabouts. Who are the members of this group, and what are their plans?
At this point, you might be wondering, my dear diary: Well that’s the job of a Detective, isn’t it? To search for clues and find the criminals?
Well, you’re not wrong. But I have to say this; it would be much easier if we had even the slightest hint of where to start looking.
Johansson and Beatriz, my human friends, stayed in the Overworld working on their latest project – the Energy Generator. The generator was a project started by Murray, who went to prison after his failed plot to take over the Nether with the help of the Triad Bastion.
I could ask Johansson for help, but I feel like I relied too much on him in my past investigations. As a matter of fact, I only managed to solve the case behind the Secret Scientist (who turned out to be Johansson himself) after Beatriz lent me a hand.
In other words, I don’t want to involve them in this. Johansson and Beatriz have already done too much for Crimson City, and I can’t say Crimson City has returned the favor. It’s time I let them focus on their own projects and help their own city.
Some could say that it’s a bad idea trying to figure out everything by myself if I could ask for help from Johansson and Beatriz. I must try, though. Besides, I’m not alone; Detective Peter is right next to me, and I’m sure he’s ready to do his best to help me with this case. Anyway, I should probably get back to work. The officers at the police station need some help.
Day 2
Back at the police station after another day of work, I clocked in early as usual, going straight to my office to sign all the paperwork and get started on our new investigation. Detective Peter joined me shortly after.
Hey, Detective, good morning.
Morning, Peter.
So, ready for our new investigation?
Detective Peter excitedly asked me.
You bet. I can’t wait to put an end to this mystery,
I replied.
Great. Me either. I wonder what those Triad Society Piglins are up to. Where should we start?
Peter wondered.
I’ve been asking myself the same thing. The Triad Society has been acting in secret ever since Officer Barry was revealed to be one of them. Before that revelation, we didn’t have any clue of what their plans were. I guess we don’t have the Piglin power to find out everything about them. Unless…
Unless what?
We need help with this case, Peter. The Piglin Police Station is not going to resolve this investigation by itself. We don’t have enough officers and Detectives to search every nook and cranny across Crimson City, and that’s why we need help.
I got up from my chair and walked out of the office. Detective Peter followed me.
What kind of help are we talking about?
He wondered.
You’ll see. Receptionist, please call Channel 9 and ask them to be here in ten minutes. I have something to say about an upcoming investigation,
I told her.
Okay, I’ll call them, Detective.
She made the call, and in less than ten minutes, we had a reporter and a camerapiglin outside the police station.
Come with me and you’ll understand, Peter,
I said.
Roger!
We went out the front of the station to meet the camera crew.
Hello, Detective, how’ve you been?
The reporter asked.
I’m fine. Ready to roll? I’ve got something to ask that is valuable to our investigation.
"Sure thing, Detective, we’ll start rolling in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… The camerapiglin said.
Hello, Channel 9 spectators. This is Kelvin DePiglian, right in front of the Piglin Police Station with Detective Calvin Jenkins. The Detective would like to speak a few words to the public of Crimson City.
Hello, Crimson City. I’m Detective Calvin, and I’m here today to ask for your help. Yes, I know it’s quite unusual for the Police to ask for the assistance of the general population on TV, but during these trying times, we must do whatever we can to deal with the problem. As you all know, Officer Barry betrayed the institution and tried to overtake the human city of Minerland in the Overworld. We managed to stop him in time, but the problem persists. As you also may know, Barry belonged to a group called ‘Triad Society.’ For that reason, I ask for your help. Anyone who knows where the Triad Society is and who their members are, please call us. Your identity will be kept private, and you will be doing a great favor for Crimson City. I’m willing to offer a one hundred golden nugget reward for anyone who provides enough information to secure the location and arrest of at least one member of the Triad Society. That’s all for the time being, and thanks for your time.
We’re happy to hear the police station is open to receiving help from Crimson City citizens. Channel 9 will keep you all updated during this investigation, and we hope the Triad Society is brought to justice at last. This is Kelvin DePiglian, back to you folks at the station.
Alright, got everything,
the camerapiglin replied.
This is fantastic material. I might even get a raise just for that statement alone. Thank you, Detective,
the reported said.
Was that live?
No, no. We recorded it. It will be on TV later tonight, probably on prime time. Turn on channel 9 and you’ll see yourself on TV tonight, Detective. Anyway, I hope you catch those criminals.
Thanks for the help. I’ll keep you guys updated,
I replied.
The camerapiglin and the reporter left. Peter and I returned to the Police Station.
Do you think this is going to work in our favor, detective?
Peter wondered. I’m not sure if Piglins are willing to help us.
We really need the citizens’ help. Someone out there might know a thing or two about the Triad Society, and we need them to come forward and tell us.
What about prank calls? How can we figure out which are the pranks and which are the genuine callers?
Peter asked. I can only imagine the number of fake calls we’re going to get - maybe even from members of the Triad Society itself, trying to throw us off their trail.
I know it won’t be easy, Peter, but at least it’s a start. Tomorrow, we’ll see what happens. We’ll go through all the calls and decide which ones are worth investigating.
Okay, sounds like a plan. It’s the best we’ve got, after all.
Peter replied.
Peter was right. Despite being our only plan for the time being, it wasn’t exactly the best one.
Later that day, I got home and found my parents watching TV.
Hey Dad back from the office early today, I see,
I said.
Hey, champ, yes, I figured I should spend more time with your mother. Life isn’t all about work, after all. By the way, you should go out and have fun more often. Your job is consuming you, son.
Your Dad is right, Calvin. Take a break from work, honey,
Mom said.
I promise I’ll take a break after I solve this case.
What case are you talking about?
Dad asked me.
Keep watching the TV and you’ll see,
I said.
I sat down on the couch next to them. I switched to Channel 9, and my interview came up. Dad couldn’t take his eyes off the
