    THE CAVES & CLIFFS UPDATE

    The biggest and most exciting update you’ll see this year is due in summer 2021, and that’s the Caves and Cliffs Update for the Java and Bedrock Editions. We’ll be previewing this extensively over the next few months leading up to launch, but in case you missed the announcement at Minecraft Live 2020, here’s a little of what you can expect:

    AMETHYST

    This new mineral can be collected in underground “geode” structures. It can be collected as shards, which can be crafted into blocks. Amethyst geodes can contain amethyst buds – rare crystal shards that slowly grow into an amethyst shard. This mineral can be used to craft some new glassware items – the spyglass (a telescope allowing you to view long distances!) and tinted glass, a new type of glass that
