Diary of a Piglin Book 4 - Mark Mulle

    Day 1

What a crazy ride, my dear diary! My life has been full of ups and downs. Granted, I must agree that most of those moments were ups rather than downs. I should count myself lucky for coming out of that adventure not only alive, but with so much to tell.

The experiences I have gone through helped me grow and mature. I feel more confident and proud of myself. I no longer doubt my decisions, and I feel like I can help other people who are having the same problems.

Johansson taught me a lot about the world – the Nether, the Overworld, and even a little bit of The End! However, that’s not all. He also taught me about respect, courage and determination. He told me never to give up. According to him, I also taught him a thing or two. In the end, we both came out of those crazy three months with a vast amount of experience. We’ve grown, both physically and mentally. Beatriz also learned a lot, but I wish she had been there with us in the first two months as well, other than her brief appearance in the second month.

Well, enough of that! It has been a whole month since I’ve written anything in this diary. I bet you’re wondering what else happened in the Nether, right? Don’t worry, diary. I’ll fill you in on all the details!

First of all, about my job - well, actually, it’s about my lack of a job. That’s right; I’m still unemployed. I received some job offers from other bastions; they wanted to hire me after hearing about our adventures in the Triad Bastion. They say I could get a position as Security Manager or something like that, given my background.

It sounds like a dream come true, right? The old Calvin Pignes of four months ago would jump at that opportunity! However, as I said before, I’ve matured. I don’t want to work at a bastion anymore. In fact, I would rather keep my distance from bastions…

Instead, I’ve started working as a Private Investigator. After helping Johansson and Beatriz with their mission and uncovering Murray’s plan to defeat Crimson City, I discovered my new passion - investigation!

As for my father, he’s very excited about the possibility of becoming the new Mayor of Crimson City. Can you imagine that from an imprisoned worker to the City Mayor? I’m so proud of what my father has achieved - better yet, of what he’s going to achieve. The election is in a few days. I’m voting for my father, of course! There’s only one other candidate running for the position - a Piglin named Gart, who works as a guard at the Basalt Delta Bastion.

Most people say Gart doesn’t stand a chance. My father became a public figure after becoming a voice on behalf of all Triad Bastion survivors upon returning home. He’s dedicating all his time and energy towards justice for all the Piglins who suffered at the hands of the Triad Bastion.

For this reason, my father’s ratings are sky high; the opponent’s - not so much. The local news channels say my father’s victory is guaranteed at this point, but I don’t want to celebrate too early. I’ll only do that when I see my father coming out victorious as the new Mayor of Crimson City!

My mother is also proud of him. Now that my father has returned, she’s feeling safer and more confident. She’s been thinking of opening a restaurant downtown, where she’ll sell pork chops. I told her it’s a great idea, but I guess she wants to wait until the election is over. In the meantime, she’s giving my father all the support and assistance he needs during his campaign.

It feels so weird, diary! I never thought I would be in this position today - working as a Private Investigator, my once missing father soon-to-be Mayor, mom planning on opening a restaurant… the world is so different, and so is Crimson City.

As for Johansson and Beatriz Armstrong, well… I can’t say much about them. I haven’t seen them since they left the Nether and returned to the Overworld. Johansson’s last words to me were, See you soon, bud! Take care of your family.

I have no idea what soon means in this case. Could it be a month, six months, a year? I don’t know when I’ll see Johansson again. I know he has plans, projects and goals. I know he’s working with his daughter on the Energy Generator, and they both need to get Murray arrested in case he returns to their city.

I know Johansson is busy with so much to do, but I miss him so much. We became great friends, and I had the craziest adventures with him. I guess I’ll have to find my own adventures until Johansson returns. Maybe one day…

    Day 2

You might be wondering how my work as a Private Investigator is. First of all, I haven’t earned a single dime since I started working on it. To be honest, I haven’t received a single case to investigate so far.

Is it frustrating? Yes, definitely. I’ve been putting up signs everywhere, offering my services and my skills as the experienced investigator who helped humans get rid of the Triad Bastion once and for all. However, I’m under the impression that most Piglins are afraid to hire me.

I’m not one to brag, but let’s just say that I’ve earned quite the reputation for my participation in the Triad Bastion raid. The local news channels called me the Piglin Menace for a while, and the nickname caught on. I couldn’t go to the local market to buy pork chops for my mom without receiving requests for pictures, autographs, and handshakes from the Menace.

The funny thing is I wasn’t even that much of a menace back then! I’m the one who caused the least damage to the Piglin Brutes and Murray. Johansson and Beatriz are the ones who should be thanked for their strength and courage for beating the Piglin Brutes and Murray, but even they refused to acknowledge the truth behind the story.

Anyway, that’s where I stand right now. I’m a Private Investigator who can’t get a job because people think I’m overqualified and they’re afraid of not being able to pay for my work. What a tragedy. I am literally suffering for being too famous!

My mother told me I shouldn’t worry.

Don’t get anxious, son. Your time will come, she says.

Mom, I’m getting older, and I don’t have a job. I’m ashamed of myself! I said.

Son, you’re still 18 years old. Stop acting like it’s the end of the world. You lost your old job for a good reason. A very good reason, mind you, she says.

I know you’re right. I just can’t help but feel down, you know? I miss having my own salary, being able to buy my own stuff. I wish I could help you guys somehow with the bills and whatnot.

Son, we don’t need any help, Mom replied. Focus on your career, and stop worrying too much. Do you want to work doing something you love or something that you despise?

I want to do what I love, of course! I can’t imagine spending the rest of my life working at the bastion. It was a good job, but devoid of life and uninspiring, I said. I want to be an investigator.

Then go on. Keep doing what you’re doing. It might be hard at the beginning, but eventually, you’ll get there. You still worry too much about things! I thought you had learned to be more patient with Johansson, Mom teased me.

You’re right I did but sometimes I forget that. I’ll stop worrying so much. The life of a Private Investigator is not easy but it’s the path I want to follow in life.

Well said. Now go on, son. Go forth. Seize the day! Mom said.

I went back to my room to put on my Private Investigator suit and grab my items. Well, it wasn’t exactly a suit – it was simply a long, black coat and a hat. I was looking for my notebook, and I stumbled upon something.

There was a hidden chest behind my shelf!

What the… I mumbled, still in shock. I had never noticed the chest until that moment. I moved the shelf to the side and opened the chest. Inside, there were two items and nothing else - a piece of paper
