    Prologue

After Perry turned into a pigman, Alex took it upon herself to find a way to fix him. Perry had no idea about what Alex was doing. Steve and Alex consulted with the cleric Carl and headed into the Nether, searching for a way to cure a zombie pigman. If zombie villagers can be cured, it should also be possible to cure zombie pigmen. Well, at least that's what Alex thought.

Perry was dealing with issues himself. After finding everything out about Hereb and how Reiarn’s story wasn’t adding up, he also wanted to search for answers. It was not easy as there were not many zombie pigmen living in the Overworld. He had to go to the Nether to learn more from the ancient pigmen living there. He also had the ability to harness the powers of the Book of the Thousand Voices, which was supposed to make things easier. He also set out to the Nether with his buddies Razor and Jarod to search for the truth.

Now the Nether adventures await them.

Chapter 1: The World of Fire

Steve and Alex had heard quite a lot about the Nether, but nothing could have prepared them for what they saw. It took quite a toll on them after traveling through the portal. The purple haze was very disorienting and made Alex nauseous.

My head hurts, she complained. It took them a bit to adjust their eyes to the bright Nether.

They were quite surprised to see the Nether. They seemed to be standing on the edge of a netherrack platform, and under them was a huge lava lake that stretched as far as their eyes could see. One wrong step, and they could have slipped on the nylium and fallen into the lava.

Woah, this is worse than I expected, Alex said in a huffed tone.

Yep, and it’s also way hotter, Steve added.

The armor feels suffocating, Alex kept complaining, Can I take it off?

Don’t, Steve replied sternly, This place is dangerous enough. It will be risky if you take your armor off. Steve hoped that Alex was not serious about taking her armor off. He knew it would be a nightmare to deal with the monsters in the Nether. They must be terrifying, Steve told Alex.

    Who? The monsters? Alex replied.

Yep. If something can live in a place like this, then it must be really tough. Fighting them will be a pain.

Alex sighed. She didn’t need to hear that. It wasn’t even ten minutes, and she had begun questioning her decisions. Maybe, she should’ve thought a bit more about it. She shouldn’t have risked Steve and herself just to find a cure for some pig. She still felt guilty about thinking that way, but it seemed like they wouldn’t be able to handle the Nether.

Want to go back? Alex asked, The portal’s right here.

What? No. Weren’t you the one who was all excited about finding a cure for your pigs? Besides, I can’t lose a chance to explore a place like this, Steve replied, and he seemed sure about it.

Well, it somewhat gave Alex a bit of courage. They were in it together, and she would not leave before she had achieved what she came for. Her fear and doubt turned into determination which gave her the courage to accept her decision. Besides, Steve’s eyes were gleaming. He seemed worried about the dangers, but he also looked like a kid at a playground. He wouldn’t leave that easily.

Standing here won’t do anything. We need to get moving. Steve started to lead the way. One side was completely filled with lava, so they really had just one way to go. Steve was excited but tried his best to not show it to Alex. She might think that Steve had gone mad because how can someone find the Nether exciting? But Steve did. He loved new places no matter how dangerous they were. The Nether, for him, was just another place to explore. It was just another adventure, but he had to be a bit more careful because everything was unknown, and the whole place was on fire.

The Nether was true to its descriptions. A vast world of fire and lava. The monsters living there had to be tremendously powerful in order to survive in the harsh landscape. Steve and Alex had no idea what kind of monsters they would run into. But one thing was for certain; it wouldn’t be easy fighting them.

So, where do we go now? Alex asked.

Well, we have only one way. This side is just lava. Bridging would be impossible, Steve replied.

Well, let’s get going then, Alex kept pushing Steve, Standing near the edge where I can fall into a lava lake doesn’t really make me comfortable. Steve nodded, and they both started walking away from the edge.

We should leave a mark behind. So that it will be easier to find our way back to the portal, Steve suggested.

Sure, I don’t want to get lost here with no way to return home, Alex replied. The Nether didn’t have trees. Unlike the Overworlds, the terrain was incredibly plain, and it seemed quite easy to get lost. What do we use to mark our path?

Steve got to thinking. They could use the blocks they brought as wood since they would easily stand out against the red netherrack. But it would mean that they would not have any left. It also didn’t seem like there were any trees around. They also couldn’t use any blocks they found here as they would blend in too well. Now that’s a problem. Steve thought about it a bit more. Let’s look around and not go too far. It shouldn’t be too hard to come back if we are near the portal, he finally suggested.

Hmm, I guess. I don’t think we have any other choice, Alex agreed.  Suddenly she remembered something. The compass! Didn’t you have a compass on you, Steve? she asked excitedly.

I did, but it doesn’t work here. The needle goes crazy and points in random directions, he replied. Alex was disappointed after hearing that.

Too bad. Well, let’s see what is out there. Standing here won’t do us any good, she said. Steve took the lead, and they both headed out.

Alex was a bit scared about getting lost. That was the last thing they would want. The Nether was a ruthless place. Soon they reached the edge of the platform they were on. There was a lava pool on that side as well. It seemed like they were on a small stretch of land in a big lava pool. But the good news was that they could see some other pieces of land, and it seemed like there was something above their heads, as well.

    Wanna head up? Steve asked.

Well, we don’t really have any other place to go to, Alex replied, "But isn’t it a bit risky?

Are you still worried about getting lost?

Kind of, yes. It wouldn’t be fun to be lost here.

Ah don’t worry, we are only going a bit further out. I can still trace back where we came from. It won’t be a problem, Steve reassured her.

Alex let out a deep sigh and said, Let’s go then.

Steve got to work making a staircase. It was stressing him out a bit as he kept thinking about falling into the lava pool. It was quite impossible to fall into the lava from where he was building up, though. He was about ten blocks away from the edge. But the thought still kept nagging at him. He just shook his head in an attempt to block those thoughts and kept going up. Alex followed behind him. When he reached the platform, it seemed to stretch far on the left. It appeared to be a lot bigger than the one they landed on. The ceiling was still just netherracks.

I wonder how many platforms are above us. We seem to be really high, but there's still something above our head. I really want to see the sky in the Nether. Alex said.

It was the only thing she thought about. How would the sky in the Nether look? She wanted to see if it was different from the one in the Overworld. But it seemed like she had to go a lot higher to see the sky. They slowly started walking forward. They strictly walked in one direction so that it would be easier for them to navigate back. Every time they took a turn, they would place some netherracks in an arrow shape to show which way they came from.

After walking for a while, they finally spotted it — a zombie pigman.

Chapter 2: Talking with a Zombie Pigman

Hey Alex, isn’t it a pigman? Steve asked.

It looks like one, she replied, Should we approach it?

"I think we should go and
