Diary of a Piglin Book 12 - Mark Mulle

    Day 1

Writing a diary about my life turned out to be one of my greatest ideas as I have a record of all of the amazing adventures I’ve been on. Looking back now and analyzing everything I did, I realized how fortunate I am. Fortunate for having my best friends by my side, winning so many battles, overcoming many challenges, and rescuing and saving others from peril. I am always so thankful for these experiences.

However, I can’t say I am actively looking for new battles to fight. If anything, I would love to uphold law and order for as long as possible. The good Piglins of Crimson City have been through too much lately.

The Piglins have been terrorized by a powerful and influential bastion who controlled the city’s trades and kept prisoners illegally, a strange cult who aimed to take down the Piglin and human civilization, and the crazy Dragon who kidnapped Piglins. I guess the Piglins have had enough.

The Nether Dragons have finally found peace under their new leader, Krop. The threat has been eliminated, and D’tort won’t cause them any trouble. Krop is now focusing entirely on training the newborn Dragons, recruits, as he likes to call them, to become strong and responsible adult Nether Dragons.

Nevertheless, we cannot forget one of the most important details about the Nether Dragons: D’vart is still in The End! We haven’t paid him a visit in a while, mostly because of the chaos caused by D’tort and his minion, Howard Piggleborn. I understand Howard had to work against his own will, but still he did cooperate with the Dragon in those wrongdoings.

It’s all in the past now, or as the humans like to say, ‘it’s all water under the bridge.’ Howard has been pardoned after assisting us with our investigation which led us to the capture of D’tort. Howard also gave us a letter with a treasure map inside as a thank-you.

I haven’t been able to figure out the map. It has a strange image, and an indecipherable code below it. Peter and I haven’t found an answer so we have decided to put the map aside for now. Helping D’vart is more important than finding treasure of any kind.

I wonder if Krop managed to find a good replacement for D’vart? It’s still unknown whether he has a Dragon ready to take over The End or not. I guess we will have to go pay him a visit and figure it out by ourselves.

    Day 2

It’s a new day, and a new shift at work. As usual, I woke up early in the morning and had my breakfast. Pork chop cereal is by far my favorite in the mornings, and I poured some good Pork milk in the bowl to have with my cereal.

I went outside and grabbed the newspaper from my doorstep. I subscribed to Joey and Mickey’s newspaper, and now they send me a copy every morning, delivered straight to my apartment. How convenient.

I took the newspaper inside and sat down to have my cereal. I ate it while reading the latest news.

Hmm, interesting… there is a new Pork Chop jelly store downtown. It’s opening up next week. Nice! I should tell everyone at the Station about it. I thought, as I skimmed through the newspaper and ate my cereal. Once I finished eating, I put on my uniform and headed out, it was 6:40 a.m. and my shift starts at 7:00 a.m. I lived close to the police station, less than five minutes away.

I walked to the police station. It was a nice, warm day in Crimson City. The Piglins were carrying on with their lives, and everything was perfectly normal. After dealing with so many difficult situations and problems in the last few months, seeing everyone carrying out their normal daily routines was actually strange to me.

It’s so normal, so peaceful, that it’s almost too calm to be true. I thought to myself.

Nonetheless, I had no reason to be suspicious of the city’s unusual quietness, at least not for the moment. Once I was at the police station, the receptionist was the first to welcome me.

Good morning, Detective. The receptionist said.

    Morning, I replied.

Detective Kelly showed up moments later carrying a large file in her hands.

Hello Detective, you are here early as always. She said.

My shift starts in fifteen minutes. I am just a little bit early. I joked.

Yeah, you are Mr. Punctual. Kelly replied. Nothing new about that. She laughed.

Yep, I suppose it’s a habit. Anyway, may I ask you something, Detective Kelly?

    Shoot.

Is there anything going on at the moment? I asked her.

Anything going on? What do you mean, Detective?

I mean, sorry, I should rephrase it. Has anything bad happened recently? Are there any urgent cases available? Anyone in danger?

If you consider an old Piglin lady who called to have her Magma Cube rescued from a mushroom tree an emergency, then yes. Kelly joked.

Is that all we have for today?

Yes, so far and Officer Tenpen is on the scene. He is our tallest Piglin, after all. I guess he can handle a Magma Cube stuck in a tree. Now, don’t ask me how a Magma Cube managed to climb up a tree. Those things don’t do anything other than hop around mindlessly. Kelly replied.

    Yeah… a real mystery.

Anyway, why do you ask, Detective? Is there something that we should worry about?

No, I was just checking. You know, after everything that happened recently, I was anticipating that something bad was about to happen. I guess it’s just my mind playing tricks on me.

I understand, Detective. Don’t worry. In fact, you should take some time off. You both should. Kelly pointed to someone behind me. It was Peter, who had just arrived to work.

Good morning. What are you two talking about? Peter asked.

    Morning, Peter.

We were talking about how you two have been working way too hard. Kelly said. Between saving Crimson City from dangerous enemies and assisting the Nether Dragons in their mission to save their species and defeat D’tort, I’d say you two have done a lot for us. You deserve a break.

A break? We cannot take a break right now. It would not be the right thing to do so. I replied.

How come? There is absolutely nothing going on. Crimson City is safe and sound. The dangerous Dragon kidnapper is no more. Triad Society, Triad Bastion… they are all over, thanks to your hard work. Kelly reasoned out.

    Yes, but…

No ifs, ands, or buts. Come on now guys, think about it. You have done so much. Maybe you could take some time off even if it’s just for a week to relax and wind down a bit.

Do you think we should? Peter wondered.

Well, Calvin has been quite paranoid about things. Kelly said.

That’s not true. I was just asking if everything was okay. That’s all. I tried to explain.

Do you know that feeling where something is always ‘off’? That something bad is about to happen even though everything is perfectly normal? Kelly stared at me.

    Yes… I replied.

It’s called paranoia, Detective. You must take a break. Kelly reinforced. I don’t know if you have the same symptoms Peter, but you should also rest up for a bit.

Rest? But we still have so much to do. Peter said.

    Like what?

Like search for that treasure from the map, or help D’vart get out of The End.

Well, that actually doesn’t sound too bad. Kelly said. It could be sort of like a relaxing activity for the both of you. No battles or fights involved. It’s decided, then!

    What is decided? I asked.

I’ll give you both a month vacation, effective today.

    What?

That’s right. Now pack your stuff and enjoy your free time doing the things you love. Kelly told us.

But I love working here. I said.

    Me too. Peter said.

Guys, you are the best Detectives in the Nether. But remember one thing, you both appointed me as the new boss around here. Whether you like it or not, being the boss means I get to tell you what to do! Kelly laughed as she tapped me on my shoulder. And as your boss, I have decided to give you both some time off. You don’t just deserve it, you have earned it. Besides, we need you both well rested and prepared for future missions.

You are right. As our boss, I suppose we must comply with your orders.

You are right about that, my friend, I mean my subordinate! Kelly smiled. "Anyway, I am just doing this for
