    Book 13: The Warden Awakens

    Day 1

The team was hard at work to prevent any surprise attack from the so-called Warden. We had an army from Minerland with itsofficer, twenty-eight Nether Dragons led by Krop and his trusty assistant, D’vart. We also had Johansson and Beatriz, who were some of the best fighters out there, along with Peter and myself.

Even though Peter and I were not the most qualified to take on a battle and help fight the Wardens, we could still pack a punch with our crossbows; however, I was hoping the Wardens would never show up.

This has to be one of the most terrifying moments in my life. Peter said. Just being here and waiting for the Wardens to show up, not knowing exactly what they look like and what they are capable of… it’s truly a horrendous feeling. Peter didn’t feel like fighting at all, but he knew he had to.

I know what you mean, Peter. I wish we didn’t have to be here but it’s not like we have much of a choice. The whole world is in grave peril now. You heard what that Evoker Val said. I replied. We must stand up and fight, otherwise everything will be gone for good.

I know, but… I just can’t help but feel powerless when faced against those beasts. I mean, Val did mention how dangerous the Wardens are. Do you really think the Wardens are stronger than Nether Dragons and even Withers? Because if they are, then we are in deep trouble, Peter added.

After talking to the soldiers, Johansson joined Peter and myself in our conversation.

I don’t think there is a creature capable of defeating our forces. We have the best team in this world. Nether Dragons, humans and even Piglins are equipped with the finest crossbows. We can do this. Johansson replied.

Well, I’m certainly flattered by your consideration of our strength in this battle. But I hardly believe we can even make a dent in those Wardens! Peter laughed.

Any help is more than welcome, Peter. Beatriz said joining our conversation.

Krop and D’vart had tasked D’sort, D’zar and D’fort to lead the Nether Dragons in the Overworld as they at times leave the Overworld to oversee things in the Nether.

The human soldiers were busy practicing their daily drill for the big battle. When all of sudden, something startled the group. A fissure erupted from the hole, releasing a powerful pressure. Hot air came out of the entrance, and everyone backed away from the area.

Attention everyone, something is happening at the entrance! The Officer warned the group.

What is happening? Are the Wardens coming out? Johansson wondered.

Be prepared, everyone! D’vart said. The Wardens might have decided to come out now. Our time has come. We must fight and keep the Wardens at bay!

The earth trembled. The fissure opened a crater and suddenly the blocks were sucked in and vanished amidst the hole. It was impossible to see anything inside, but we knew there was something coming. We could feel it…

Be careful now. Once the Wardens come out, we cannot give them a chance to fight back. We must fight and take them down immediately. Krop advised.

Good point. Get ready, guys! Johansson said.

Everyone armed up to the teeth and approached the entrance. Time seemed to slow down almost to a complete stop. The seconds passed by slowly. There was complete silenceas everyone watched the fissure closely and waited for the Wardens to reveal themselves to the world.

    And then…

Watch out! They are coming! The Officer shouted.

Four black creatures came out of the hole. They jumped out in a similar motion and charged upwards in a single leap. The Nether Dragons were the first to attack the Wardens before they could even step on the ground.

Charge! D’sort ordered. All Nether Dragons in the vicinity attacked except for D’zar, D’sort, D’fort, D’vart, and Krop. However, the four Wardens packed quite a punch – they easily dispatched the Nether Dragons with a single punch each. The Nether Dragons came after the Wardens, but one by one were defeated in midair.

The Nether Dragons laid on the ground unconscious. The Wardens finally landed and stepped on the ground for the first time.

Twenty-five of my best Nether Dragons defeated by only four Wardens. This is impossible! D’sort exclaimed.

So, the legends are true. They really are stronger than anything! Krop said.

The four black, tall and muscular creatures stood up and looked around. They did not look dangerous at all, but we could feel a powerful energy emanating from them.

Don’t let them come anywhere near us! Charge them soldiers! The Officer ordered.

It was time for the humans to give it a try. The soldiers were equipped with some of the fanciest armor and weapons, which were more than enough to swiftly destroy a Wither in mere seconds.

We must help them too! Come, D’vart! Krop went in to assist the soldiers, and D’vart joined him shortly afterwards.

Right! We can do this! D’vart replied.

Come Beatriz, let’s help them! Johansson stepped in and joined the fray with his daughter.

The Wardens did not move a muscle but seemed to be aware of their surroundings. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that they were blind, as the Evoker had told us.

The army was the first to make direct contact with the Wardens, slashing and hacking away with their strong swords. But the Wardens didn’t seem to feel any pain. With a single punch, a Warden completely destroyed the Netherite Armor of one of the soldiers, launching him some 30 meters away, where he de-spawned.

The other soldiers suffered the same fate. No one stood a chance against the unimaginable strength of the Wardens. D’vart and Krop tried to prevent their counterattack, but the Wardens had little to no trouble in defeating them as well.

D’vart took a right punch to the face and fainted. Krop went after the Warden and managed to bite its head. The Warden did not react. Instead, it simply punched Krop’s throat, who dropped to the ground in pain.

This is impossible. Where is all this strength coming from? Krop asked.

Johansson and Beatriz came to help, attracting the Warden’s attention to them. They protected Krop while he recovered from the attack. Beatriz swung her sword at the Warden, going straight for its head. The Warden did not move – her sword broke on impact with the monster!

Impossible! My Diamond sword was broken immediately! Beatriz said.

Johansson attacked the same Warden with his sword in an attempt to protect Beatriz. The Warden brushed him off with a single punch as well. Beatriz kneeled and checked on his father laying unconsciously on the ground.

Dad, please get up! We need your help! We cannot fight them without you!

The Warden came from behind and knocked Beatriz out.

Peter and I watched in horror as all of our friends lost the battle right before our eyes. The four Wardens did not break a sweat during the battle. They had barely used any of their strength, and there was nothing we could do to stop them.

Calvin, what do we do now? We are doomed! Peter screamed.

We do not stand a chance against those monsters. Look what they did to everyone else. They utterly destroyed everyone without much effort, using only one hand. We can’t do anything to stop them now. I replied.

The Wardens heard our conversation and started walking in our direction. They had a good awareness of their surroundings and could hear everything clearly.

Despite having the opportunity to run away, I froze in place. Peter didn’t feel like escaping either; he was too scared to flee. We both stood there without moving, as the Wardens closed the gap between us. Soon, the four Wardens were standing some two meters away from us.

This is it, isn’t it? We are not so lucky as our friend who can easily respawn in this world... Peter muttered.

That’s right, Peter. There is nowhere to run now. It was nice meeting you, my friend…

I watched as one of the Wardens bowed down to look me in the eyes. The creature put both of its hands on my shoulders and said:

    Calvin!

Uh? How do you know my name? I was surprised.

    The Warden started shaking me.

    Calvin, wake up! Wake up!

Suddenly, I awoke to reality; I had been asleep. Peter was trying to wake me up.

Oh… What happened? I asked him.

You were having a horrible nightmare, Calvin. You wouldn’t stop talking about Wardens and stuff. Is everything alright now? Peter asked me.

Yes, yes… thank you for waking me up, Peter. I had the worst nightmare ever. I replied.

I figured! What was it like, Detective? Peter wondered.

Honestly, I’d rather not talk about it. They were powerful creatures. I replied.

Sure, no worries, we are all safe here, Calvin. You can go back to sleep now. Peter replied.

Yes, I’ll try to do that. I replied.

I got up briefly to stretch my legs and my arms. I took a good look around, and everyone was asleep. It was already dark in the Overworld, and even the Nether Dragons were taking a rest. Krop remained alert, as well as some of the human soldiers who guarded the entrance to the hole.

I lay down again and tried to go back to sleep. We were going to have some busy days ahead of us, so we had to be fully prepared.

    Day 2

I was up early after a bad night of sleep. I met the others, who were having breakfast over a wood fire.

    Good morning. I said.

Good morning. Beatriz and Johansson replied.

Hey, there he is. How was your sleep, Calvin? Johansson asked me.

Well, it was not that bad… who am I kidding. It was the worst. I replied.

Really? Sorry to hear that. Peter told me that you had a nightmare that had something to do with Wardens. Johansson said.

By the way, where is he? I wondered.

Peter already had breakfast with D’vart and Krop, and they went on a scouting mission in the area. Beatriz replied.

Oh, I see… anyway, I’m already feeling much better now, but I was sweating in the middle of the night when Peter woke me up.  I replied.

I understand why you have been feeling like this. Wardens are putting a lot of pressure on everyone. Beatriz replied.

Tell me about it. Johansson replied. I haven’t been sleeping properly in a while.

Yeah… we don’t know much about them. We only know that they are blind and incredibly strong. Other than that, we are abit unprepared to face them. That’s why I fear them. I revealed.

Totally understandable, Calvin, Beatriz said. I know we may not be as strong as a Warden, but you have to think that we are all working together here. Nether Dragons, soldiers… it’s a great force to keep them at bay. I don’t think any creatures can easily win a battle against us.

You might be right. I replied. I should stop worrying so much about the Wardens. Let’s focus on keeping everything under control.

That’s the spirit! Would you like to come with me to speak to the Officer? I’m going to check on things and see if they have spotted anything unusual at night. Johansson invited me.

Of course, I’d rather stay busy here than do nothing. I replied.

I went with Johansson to speak to the Minerland Officer, who was sitting by his barracks and preparing new strategies for a potential attack.

Excuse me Officer, may we come in? Johansson asked.

Sure, thing professor, please come on in. The Officer replied.

    We entered the barracks.

I’m sorry, we have seen each other multiple times, but we have never been properly introduced. May I know your name, Officer? Johansson politely asked.

    Yes sure, professor.

Actually, I am a former professor. Only my daughter works at the university.I am a full-time scientist now as I resigned from my teaching position a few months back.

I see…you are quite popular in Minerland, Professor Johansson Armstrong. By the way, I am David Spades, First Officer for the Minerland Royal Guard. I have been on this post for well over five years now.I earned my position after taking part in the Battle of the Chicken Jockeys.

Battle of the Chicken Jockeys? When did that happen? I asked.

A few years ago, it was horrific. You should have seen the battlefield with all those pesky Chicken Jockeys everywhere. Anyway, I will still call you professor; you still deserve to have that as a title due to your contribution not only to Minerland but also to the Nether.

Yes, I agree. You have merited that title whether you are still teaching or not. I said.

How was it at night, anything strange? Johansson asked Officer David Spades.

One of our soldiers spotted something unusual. Some of the blocks on the ground vanished. One soldier also reported hearing a strange high-pitched noise coming from the hole. I am not entirely sure if this means that the Wardens are coming or if they are anywhere near the surface, but it’s enough to keep a grown man up all night! The Officer replied.

Yeah, we all have been having some trouble sleeping lately. Johansson stared at me.

Indeed. But I know for a fact that we will succeed. If the so-called Wardens ever step into this area, we are going to take them down. The Officer said.

Yeah, I hope so. Johansson replied.

D’vart and Krop were right outside the barracks waiting for us. Peter was riding on D’vart’s back.

So, you finally woke up. Peter told me.

Yep… wasn’t a very good night of sleep as you already know. I told him.

Sorry to hear that. But don’t worry Calvin, we’ve got this. If the Warden ever come our way, our friends, the Nether Dragons can defeat them!

Woah, I wouldn’t be so sure about that. We have never fought a creature like the Warden. D’vart replied.

Yes, but you guys can defeat anyone, right? Peter wondered.

D’vart and Krop didn’t seem confident to answer his question.

Well, whatever comes out of that hole, we will make sure they are quickly dispatched from this world without causing any trouble. Together, we can easily keep the Overworld protected. Johansson said.

Well said, Johansson. It’s not about what the Nether Dragons can destroy or not, but it’s about what we can do as a team together. Even though Iam not entirely sure if we are capable of defeating the Wardens by ourselves, I definitely feel relieved having the Minerland army, along with Johansson and Beatriz by our side. Calvin and Peter, your Crossbows are always more than welcome too. Krop replied.

That’s a relief. For a brief moment, I thought you weren’t going to consider our help in the fight. I almost felt sad, Krop!

Anyway, we should return to our camp with Beatriz. I believe everything here is under control and that the army is doing a great job. D’vart said. We went back to the camp and waited.

    Day 3

Nothing different had happened from the day before. Everyone at camp seemed to be feeling confident and well-prepared to face any enemies that may come out of the hole in the ground.

It seems everything is safe around here! No one is worried or agitated. It looks like nothing unusual happened last night, so all is good. Peter said at breakfast.

But I wonder how long it will be like this? I said.

    What do you mean, Detective?

I mean, how many days of peace and calm are we going to have before the monsters come out and reveal themselves? Plus, we don’t know how many of them are down there. One? Two? Twenty? I can’t help but think of what our future holds.

Cheer up Detective, I think you’re exaggerating. Peter replied. I know you have been worried lately, but you should allow yourself to relax every once in a while. Besides, we haven’t seen anything wrong happening lately. Why should we worry?

That’s when D’vart came to us.

You guys should hurry! Something is happening at the hole! D’vart said.

    What happened? I asked.

Soldiers heard some cracking sounds coming out of it. Also, some steam vapors appeared and now everyone is surrounding the entrance and waiting for the inevitable.

    Wait! Does that mean…

The Wardens might be coming out today. D’vart replied. Now, get ready and join us! We cannot leave that place unattended, not even for a split second.

We went with D’vart to the place where everyone had gathered to keep the hole under watch. All Nether Dragons and human soldiers were ready to attack the monsters.

Keep your eyes peeled in that direction! Do not let the Wardens roam freely in the Overworld! We must show them good Overworld hospitality, by teaching them who the boss is around here! The Officer shouted.

    Yes, sir! The soldiers replied.

Now, if the Wardens come out in groups, I want you all to charge at them with your best weapons and attack them individually. We want to cause as much damage in the least amount of time. Do you understand?

    Yes, sir!

Good. Now move along soldiers! Get those weapons ready and aimed at the entrance. If those things come out, we are taking them down!

The Nether Dragons remained silent, as they watched the entrance diligently. Afterwards, a roar echoed in the air. The sound was coming out of the underground cave, and it gave us the chills!

Creepy! That’s the strangest noise I have ever heard in my life! I said.

I know, right? Whatever that thing is, they cannot be friendly with a roar like that! Peter said.

Don’t worry guys, we will be safe. Together, we can win! Johansson replied.

Another loud roar, this time it was much closer than before. The creature had advanced through

the cave, and we could feel it getting closer by the second. It was impossible to see anything inside because it was pitch-black down there.

I can almost sense it. Can you guys feel the same? Beatriz asked.

Yes. There is an eerie aura in this place. Peter replied.

Hey, watch it over there! Beatriz pointed at the hole. Something had turned up, but it was hard to tell exactly what.

Keep your eyes on the enemy! Do not let your guard down! The officer ordered.

Attention Nether Dragons, the battle is near. Get ready! Krop shouted.

The creature remained idle for a few seconds before returning to the cave. Then, it stretched its arm out through the tiny Bedrock entrance. Apparently, the monster was too big to fit through the hole, like Peter and I did. But the monster did not let the Bedrock stop it. With a single blow, he destroyed the blocks, hurling them some 50 meters upwards in the air. The Bedrock blocks fell to the ground right next to us.

Gee… did you see that? That thing literally blew off the Bedrock with a single punch! Peter said.

Oh no… my nightmare is coming true. This cannot be. I replied.

After widening the entrance, the creature finally stepped off on the crater. The Warden revealed itself for the first time!

Is that the Warden? I wondered.

Yes, I believe so. He seems confused. Johansson replied.

The Warden was a tall and black creature, very similar to the Enderman in that regard. However, the Warden was much bulkier than the lean Enderman. In his chest, a complete set of pointy teeth illuminated by sunlight, creating a throbbing sound as the Warden slowly walked uphill to leave the crater.

This creature is horrific! Look at that! We cannot let that monster get near us! Peter said.

Calm down, Peter. The Warden is not doing anything for the time being. We should not irritate it… at least that’s how I see it. I replied.

Get ready, soldiers! I want your swords ready to fight the Warden! The Officer said.

Are you sure we should attack it now, Officer? The creature isn’t threatening anyone. Johansson commented.

Are you nuts, professor? We cannot let that monster roam around without any control. We must neutralize before it’s able to do anything. This is our chance to keep the Warden under control! The Officer replied.

I’d say it’s not a good idea for the time being but suit yourself. Johansson replied.

The Warden seemed slowed down by something. It couldn’t move quickly, and the sunlight apparently had some sort of negative effect on its skin. The core in its chest brightened as the monster moved, emitting strange sounds.

    Day 4

The Warden was an odd-looking, fearless and slow creature, who had a pair of horns on its head and a set of teeth coming out of its chest. The unknown creature moved slowly but seemed to possess huge strength destroying Bedrock with only one hand. It tried to climb out of the crater where the entrance of the cave was.

This is it. We are not going to sit here idly and wait for the impending doom. We are acting before the monster has a chance to do his thing! Soldiers, are you all ready? The Officer asked.

    Ready! They replied.

Wait for signal when to attack! The Officer shouted.

The Warden finally got out of the crater. It stood up and moved its head, trying to detect its surroundings. The horns on its head vibrated indicating that their creatures around it. The Warden was blind, but it could easily detect any presence nearby.

What is it doing? Peter wondered.

I think it’s surveying its surrounding,. Johansson replied.

This monster is tall! Peter commented.

Standing over 3 meters tall, the Warden sure was menacing to look at. After checking the surroundings, it started walking in our direction. The Warden didn’t walk in a straight path. Instead, he zigzagged across the path.

Do not let that thing get anywhere near our barracks! This is our time to charge at the monster and take it down! The Officer announced. Soldiers, get your swords ready!

    Yes, sir!

The Warden didn’t seem to mind our presence. It walked away, ignoring everyone else.

Do not let that thing escape. It won’t get away without knowing what our forces can do. Charge at it and take the Warden down! The Officer ordered.

The soldiers did not spare the Warden. They charged and started attacking him with their Netherite swords.

Ouch… I wouldn’t want to be in that Warden’s place. D’vart said. A single Netherite Sword is enough to hurt a Nether Dragon and now we are talking about 50 swords. The Warden certainly won’t survive the attack. Soon, the creature will perish and…

Before D’vart could finish his sentence, one of the soldiers flew across the sky and landed behind us.

What just happened here? I asked.

Other soldiers were flung away as the Warden punched them with his powerful fists. With a single attack, the Warden could defeat every soldier effortlessly. The Netherite swords didn’t seem to do any damage the Warden’s thick skin.

No, this cannot be happening! Keep attacking it, soldiers! Do not let this evil creature defeat you! The Officer shouted.

But it was all too late; the Warden had already taken care of all 50 soldiers with his bare hands.

"Fifty human soldiers armed with the best weapons and armor from the Overworld and with

intensive training and experience on the battlefield, singlehandedly defeated by a Warden. Now that’s what I call strong." Krop replied.

My nightmare really is coming true. What do I do now? I wondered.

You seem too calm for someone who just witnessed a Warden defeat an army of humans, Krop. Do you have any plans in mind? D’vart asked him.

Honestly, I don’t have any plans. My only plan is to try and see how far we can go against it. I don’t think we are able to defeat the Warden, but we might as well try. Krop replied.

Wait, what are you saying? Peter asked. Are you telling us that Nether Dragons cannot destroy the Warden?

I don’t know yet. But the Warden sure is strong. The Evoker Val was absolutely right; this monster is unlike anything we have seen so far. Therefore, I am not sure if we will be able to subdue him.

This is terrible! If the Nether Dragons can’t keep the Warden under control, then what will become of this world? Peter wondered.

We haven’t been defeated yet, Peter. Do not worry. We will find a way. Johansson replied. Just stay away from the Warden for the time being.

The Warden kept walking away, as if it had planned where to go next. This time, no one tried to block its path.

Where is it going, anyway? I wondered. It’s almost like it knows where it wants to be.

Perhaps the Warden is on a mission. We could follow him and see where it goes. Krop replied.

Are you nuts? What if he decides to destroy everything? Peter asked.

The way I see it, the Warden does not pose an imminent threat for the time being.

What? How can you say that after witnessing those 50 men defeated by it? I asked.

The Warden was attacked. It did not attack first. Maybe it was simply protecting itself. Anyway, I’m not saying we will let it do whatever it wants. I’m just saying we should keep an eye on him and follow him to see where he goes.

How can you know for a thing that it’s a ‘he’, though? Beatriz asked.

I don’t. I’m just assuming so. Krop replied.

Well, I don’t like the idea of chasing a dangerous monster in the Overworld, but I guess we don’t have any other options for now. Let’s go after him and see where he goes. I replied.

    Day 5

The Warden was uncontrollable, and he was on the run. Well, more like on a sloppy walk. The monster was looking for something, but we did not know exactly what. Our last resort was to follow him and see what he would find.

I swear if that creature ever comes near Minerland, I’m taking it down! The Officer said.

How are you going to do that, Officer? All your soldiers have been defeated with a single punch. There is no stopping that creature on its tracks, at least not with your forces. Krop replied.

Well, I am sure we will find a way! The Officer replied.

Suddenly, the Warden stopped walking and turned around, facing us. We also stopped some 20 meters away from the beast. It then opened its mouth and let out a screech, terrifying enough to scare anyone in our group.

Ouch! Make it stop! Johansson covered his ears.

Oh my gosh… my ears! Beatriz also covered hers. The Officer did the same. However, no one else reacted to the sound like the humans.

What is going on? Why does the Warden’s screech only affect humans? I wondered.

I don’t know, but let’s just leave it at that. Peter replied.

The Warden stopped screeching and simply lay on the ground, where he started sleeping under the sunlight!

What? The nerve of that monster! First it scares the living daylights out of us, and now it sleeps on the ground as if nothing happened? This is weird. The Officer replied.

Its screech is still echoing in my ears. Johansson replied.

Me too. I think it’s some sort of defense mechanism to scare away any threats in its surroundings before it goes to sleep. Beatriz replied.

Oh, great observation honey, perhaps we could study this creature once we figure out what it is doing in the Overworld and where it is going. But then we would need some more samples and devices to properly categorize and record…

Professor Johansson, sorry to break it to you, but it’s not really the right time to talk about that. I said.

Sorry, I got caught up in the conversation and I should leave that aside. Anyway, we should count ourselves lucky that the beast didn’t just lunge at us. Johansson replied.

Do you think it’s hibernating again? Peter asked. What if it went to sleep only to wake up after a hundred years from now or so?

Well, that would be perfect, wouldn’t it? I replied. That would give everyone enough time to gear up and protect against it. What do you say, Professors Beatriz and Johansson? Since you are the two most learned in our group!

Personally, I cannot say much since we barely had any time to investigate and study the creature. Beatriz replied. But given how the Warden released a defensive mechanism shortly before falling asleep, I’d say it is unlikely that it is hibernating especially in such a wide, open area, where it is prone to attacks from other entities.

I thoroughly agree with Beatriz. Johansson replied. The way I see it, the beast won’t hibernate in an open environment like this. Any creatures in the world that hibernate usually pick a spot hidden away from harm’s way, where they can safely protect their bodies against the weather and other enemies. It would be unwise to hibernate in such a dangerous place, as much as I have a hard time figuring out what kind of monster would pose a threat to the Warden.

That’s true. Peter replied. If there’s anything out there that can harm a Warden, please keep it away from me!

Hahaha, good point Peter, Johansson replied. But again, the world of Minecraft sure is full of surprises. Up until a short while ago we had no idea that a creaturelike a Warden could face a Nether Dragon in battle and yet, here we are.

Woah, wait there, we haven’t fought that monster yet. You can’t say we are no match for the Warden until you have seen us fighting it. D’vart replied.

Johansson is right, though. Krop intervened.

Oh? Krop, you are not really the kind of Nether Dragon to easily admit defeat. I never thought you would do so. D’vart protested.

I am not admitting defeat. It doesn’t mean I will let the Warden do whatever it pleases without putting up a fight. However, there is no denying how strong it is. The beast has given us a sample of its strength, and we should be wary of its presence. Do not take the Warden for granted. Krop replied.

Okay, that makes sense. D’vart said. You know, for someone who used to be angry all the time, you sure have come a long way, Krop!

I guess becoming a Nether Dragon again and leaving all the frustrations of a Hoglin behind really helped. Krop replied. Besides, there is no point in being angered right now. I must keep it cool and work with you guys to bring the Warden down.

So, what are we waiting for? Since we know for a fact that the Warden is not hibernating, we should go for it. D’vart replied. Let me go call the three Nether Dragon leaders and tell them to charge at the Warden!

Not yet. The Warden has not shown us its full strength. It’s too dangerous to simply throw ourselves at the Warden unless needed. Krop replied.

What do you guys have in mind? The Officer asked.

I’d suggest listening to the professors over here. They are the ones who have the best grasp on the situation. Krop pointed at Johansson and Beatriz.

Us? Sorry to disappoint you Original Dragon, but we really don’t know much more than everyone else. Everything we know is based solely on our observations and nothing else.

And that’s good enough, Johansson. You are already ahead of us. So please, help us now. What can we do against the Warden? Should we attack or should we wait and observe?

Johansson and Beatriz looked at each other, confused. They didn’t know what the next course of action should be. Should the Warden be attacked while in its sleep? Should it be left alone and observed from far away?

    Day 6

The terrifying Warden was left to sleep while the group tried to decide its fate. Not like we could alter much of his current state anyway.

Attacking the Warden now could be the only chance we have of getting a good shot at it. So why can’t we go ahead and take him down while we can? We should not be wasting our chances like that! The Officer said, impatient with our conversation.

Listen here, Mr. Officer from the city. You have had your chance with your soldiers, and you failed. Now, we don’t want to take the same risk for no reason. We would rather save ourselves for the best opportunity. Beatriz replied.

Huh. That’s my point professor, when is the ‘best opportunity’ going to be? Once everyone has been defeated by that beast? The Officer inquired. Think about it! You guys keep talking all that nonsense about the best approach and how to handle the situation, as if a better chance will show itself anytime soon. What kind of opportunity will we get afterwards?

Opportunities come and go, Officer. Just because we don’t want to attack the Warden now, doesn’t mean we will not have the chance later. I replied.

Listen here Piglin, I have been through a lot in my lifetime. I was appointed as Officer for my regiment after an extensive career on the battlefield. I know a thing or two about taking chances against an enemy battalion. This time, we may not be facing a battalion per say, but we are facing one of the worst threats that mankind has ever seen.In my experience, the way I see it, we are wasting precious time here just talking and staring at that thing. The Officer said.

Yeah, okay. You came here to speak to me about experience on the battlefield? Really? Krop laughed. Do not make me laugh again, Officer. We literally saved our race from near extinction after battling for hundreds of years. So, we do not need your silly advice on how to handle an urgent situation, thank you very much.

If you are as experienced as you say you are, then please make the right choice. Send that creature away from here. Free us from the danger! We cannot live in the same world as that beast. Eventually, that thing will wake up and may hurt everyone. It will be too late for everything. I am begging you all to make the best choice and go ahead with the attack. Please. The Officer asked once again.

Like I said before, and I shall repeat myself, we are leaving the decision up to the professors because we trust their words. If they say the creature is dangerous, we will attack. If they say the creature does not pose an immediate threat, then we will try a different approach. Krop replied.

It doesn’t make any sense to me. You claim you have gone through so much suffering and your race was near extinction once. Yet, you are here giving this monster a fighting chance? A chance to destroy us once it wakes up? What gives? How can you be so kind towards something so cruel and evil? The Officer asked Krop.

Great question, Officer. Now, I am the one who must ask – how can you tell this creature is cruel and evil? Have you seen it doing anything cruel and evil so far?

My army was utterly destroyed with a punch! What else do you want to see? The Officer asked.

No. What I saw was an unprepared army taking on a foe head on, not realizing the enemy’s strength and not preparing ahead to take the best approach in battle. In short, your army was defeated because of poor leadership and terrible training.

Come again! Did you just call me unqualified? The Officer’s face was completely red in ager.

Yes, I did. Krop looked him in the eyes as he replied. I am calling you unprepared, unqualified, and unfit for the battlefield. And if you really have gone through so many battles as you claimed before, I can only wonder how the heck you managed to do so. This isn’t a human versus human fight, buddy. Drop your weapons and start thinking tactically. Just bringing raw power and charging at every enemy you see won’t cut it. You must make good decisions based on an informed observation. Krop really taught him a lesson!

This is pointless. We are arguing over silly reasons, when in reality we should be out there fighting it! The Officer replied.

Here we go again…. Listen sir, why don’t you go back to Minerland and rest for a bit? Relax and let us do your job. Krop replied.

No way! If you guys don’t want to take this golden chance, then I shall do it for you! The Officer unsheathed his Netherite Sword from his inventory and charged at the sleeping Warden. You shall pay for what you have done to my soldiers, beast!

Should we stop him? I asked them.

No. Let him be. Krop replied. The man is out of his mind. Nothing will teach him to calm down other than a good old beating. It seems the Warden is about to do that… Krop pointed at the Warden as the beast was waking up from its nap!

The Warden slowly opened its eyes and frayed its arms around for a bit, as if it was stretching them. In the meantime, the Officer was about to hit the Warden with his sword. The Warden got up on his feet and moved his head towards the incoming Officer.

Take this! The Officer swung his sword at the Warden’s head, who simply held the sword with his hand. The Warden crushed the Netherite Sword with his right hand and punched the Officer away.

Argh! The Officer dropped to the ground and de-spawned from the area.

There he goes. May he make better decisions once he spawns again in Minerland. Krop replied.

    I hope so… Peter said.

The Warden was up again. What could we do about him now?

    Day 7

The Warden seemed confused and dizzy. Sleeping had left him seemingly lost about his current location and his objectives. He wasn’t as determined as he was when he first left the cave’s entrance.

Strange… it’s almost like he doesn’t know what to do next. D’vart commented.

And I raise the question again to our trustworthy professors. Do you think we lost the chance to defeat him, like that silly Officer was telling us? Krop asked them.

I don’t think so, Krop. Johansson replied. As Beatriz pointed out before, the Warden wasn’t hibernating, but just resting momentarily. She was correct, as our friend over there woke up and now seems to be getting ready for his next mission. What he is about to do, we are not sure yet. Johansson continued. But attacking the Warden in his sleep was a terrible idea, as the Officer showed us.

Why is that Johansson? Care to elaborate? Krop asked.

Well, first of all, it’s like you also told the Officer a short while ago. We are dealing with a monster whose true strength has not been revealed yet. We don’t know how far the Warden can go, and how hard he can punch. We know for a fact that he can easily defeat any human being with a single punch to the face, and that should be reason enough to scare everyone. Since we haven’t seen the Warden against the Nether Dragons yet, it is too soon to tell for sure whether the beast can defeat the dragons in battle.

Dad’s right. Beatriz said. We don’t know for sure if the Nether Dragons could defeat him or not. Attacking the Warden in his sleep would make him angry and agitated. At least, in the current state that he is, we can keep him under control… sort of.

I see. What should we do next? I was maybe thinking of going over there and seeing if the creature can talk. Krop replied.

Talking to the Warden? Well, it’s not an entirely bad idea, but it’s dangerous for sure. Johansson replied.

I like that idea. I can go talk to him. Beatriz replied.

No! The Warden seems to be somewhat aggressive towards humans. He may not see you, but he can definitely smell and hear. I guess we should send a nonhuman to do the talking.

Alright, sounds like an opportunity for me. D’vart replied. I can try and talk to the Warden, see if he tells us what he is about to do.

No. Let me go instead. I said.

Calvin? It’s too dangerous for a Piglin, buddy. Johansson replied.

Yes, but again, it is dangerous for everyone, right?

"It is dangerous especially for a Piglin." Johansson rephrased.

Look, I know I may not have the same power as a Nether Dragon, or the ability to fly, spit fire balls at the enemies or swoop them down with my big wings, but… I fear the Warden may not take it lightly against something as big as a dragon. Like you guys said, the beast can sense, smell, and hear anyone who comes near it. I’m sure it won’t like the feeling of a giant dragon approaching it. The Warden could become startled and increasingly difficult to deal with. Right now, he seems dizzy and confused. I say we grab this opportunity and try to talk to him in a peaceful manner. Piglins may be weak, but that’s the point! I doubt the Warden will feel any sort of dangerous presence from me.

Well, it’s certainly a compelling argument. I’d say you should go for it, Calvin. Krop agreed.

What? It’s too dangerous for him! What if the Warden attacks? Johansson was truly worried about my safety.

Johansson, thank you so much for worrying about me, but trust me on this one. I will be careful. I said. Besides, I know all of you have got my back if anything goes wrong.

You are right about that. D’vart replied. We can definitely cover you, while you talk to Mr. Sleepy over there. But again, Calvin – be careful. We still don’t know who or what we are dealing with.

Do not worry everyone. I will be as careful as I can be.

    Good luck, buddy. Johansson said.

Detective, I’d offer to tag along with you in this mission, but my legs are motionless. I can hardly move in fear. Peter declared.

It’s okay, Peter. Just relax. This is a one Piglin mission. It’s one of those the-less-the-better type of situations.

Got it. Good luck and take care.

Thank you. I’ll take it really slow. I don’t want to startle the Warden.

It was my chance to try and speak to the Warden. Could the monster even speak? We had to give it a try.

    Day 8

The group trusted me to approach the Warden and try to communicate with it. The creature was still laying low, standing up with its arched back and staring at the ground. The horns on its head were spiraling slowly.

Here I go… I hope nothing goes wrong. I thought.

The group stayed back and just watched me slowly make my way towards the unknown monster. Those were the longest 20 meters of my life. As I got closer, the Warden seemed to be wary of my presence. It shifted its attention from the ground to me.

Yikes. The Warden is concentrating on my presence. I thought.

In a slow motion, the Warden started walking gangly in my direction, moving its arms slowly. I stopped moving and watched in horror as the monster closed the gap between us. The Warden was over 3 blocks tall – taller than any other land creatures in existence.

This is the end for me. I gasped in fear. The Warden put its face near me and took a big whiff. He then placed his gigantic arm over my head.

Okay, this is it. There is no escaping. I was about to scream and ask for help, but the Warden released me and sat on the ground. He was facing me nonchalantly, quiet and calm.

It was my chance to give it a try and see if the Warden could speak our language.

Warden? Can you hear me? I muttered. The words were barely audible, due to my fear. The two horns on the creature’s head pulsated again. Warden, do you understand what I am saying? Can you speak to me?

The Warden seemed to hear the sounds I made as the horns vibrated, but he did not reply nor make any movements to engage in a conversation with me.

I see you are listening to me. Maybe you don’t know how to talk. But then tell me can you understand what I am saying? If so, please raise your right hand.

    The Warden did not move.

Let’s try it again. If you can hear me just fine, please raise your right hand like this. I raised my hand to show him how to do it, and for a brief moment, I had forgotten that the Warden was blind. Oh… yes. Sorry about that. I forgot you cannot see anything.

Surprisingly enough, the Warden raised his right hand in the air.

Nice! It worked. You can hear me. You understand my language. I replied in ecstasy. Let’s try something else this time. Raise your right hand for yes, and your left hand for no. Does that work for you?

The Warden lowered his hand, as if preparing himself for the incoming questions.

Great. So please tell me Warden, did you come here to attack anyone?

Yes. The Warden replied with his deep voice. I almost fell out on my back after hearing him speak.

Did you just speak? I asked.

Yes. The Warden replied once more with
