    RADICAL BEHAVIOR

For Skinner, understanding why people behave the way they do began as a rather practical and empirical problem. For example wondering about the way another person behaves in a certain way.

An assumption that accompanies us is that others feel the same way as we do when they carry out a similar behavior.

Another assumption that often comes before us is an old principle known as post hoc ergo propter hoc, which means after this, therefore, because of this. Skinner also mentions the current called PHYSICALISM that affirms that science cannot be done from feelings because it is not possible to observe them. Skinner agrees with this criticism and affirms that making an explanation of behavior based on feelings has the defect of being an easy explanation that leaves us happy and leads us not to ask ourselves anything else.

SKINNER POSES THAT BEHAVIOR IS IN PSYCHOLOGY LIKE LOGICAL POSITIVISM IN EPISTEMOLOGY: A REJECTION OF EXPLANATION IN MENTALIST TERMS. THE OBSERVABLES THAT CONSTRUCT THE BEHAVIOR CONSTRUCTION ARE STIMULES FROM WHICH UNDERSTAND THE BEHAVIOR OF A CERTAIN INDIVIDUAL. THIS IS CALLED BY BEHAVIORS DISCRIMINATING STIMULATIONS. THE SENSATIONS ARE REDUCED, FOR THE BEHAVIOR, TO OPERATIONS OF DISCRIMINATION. SKINNER THINKS THE BEHAVIOR WAS SUCCESSFUL IN ITS GOALS

    RADICAL BEHAVIORISM

Behaviorism left private facts out of scientific consideration because it was not possible for them to acquire validity. Introspective methods fell into that category.

RADICAL BEHAVIOR LOOKED FOR ANOTHER WAY. IT DOES NOT DENY THAT SELF-OBSERVATION OR ITS USEFULNESS IN A CONTEXT MAY HAVE BEEN, BUT IT QUESTIONS THE KIND OF KNOWLEDGE THAT THE PHILOSOPHERS HAVE OBTAINED FROM THE SELF-KNOWLEDGE. RADICAL BEHAVIOR RAISES THE QUESTION OF HOW FAR IS IT POSSIBLE TO OBSERVE. RADICAL BEHAVIOR SEEKS A BALANCE. PART OF THAT WHAT THE SELF-OBSERVATION SHOWS IS NOT AN ELEMENT OUTSIDE OF THE PHYSICAL NATURE BUT THE OBSERVER'S OWN BODY

RADICAL BEHAVIORISM pays special attention to the NOTION OF ENVIRONMENT. This concept had its first uses in the studies of natural sciences on animal species. Radical behaviorism posits that the growing knowledge that humanity has obtained about the CONTROL EXERCISED BY THE ENVIRONMENT OVER THE INDIVIDUAL OPENS PERSPECTIVES ON THE NATURE OF SELF-KNOWLEDGE. Ignoring the environment factor has made it difficult to understand these problems.

    Conditioned behaviors

    1. Respondent conditioning

In general terms, THE INDIVIDUAL GOES ACQUIRING NEW BEHAVIORS SUITABLE FOR NEW ENVIRONMENTS.

What has been much discussed is to what extent that process can be voluntary. For example, if someone does physical exercise, her heart will take on a new rhythm, whether she wants it or not. There is no mental association between one fact and another, it is not explained by that. It will always happen and it does not matter whether the individual takes note of it or not. This type of behavior constitutes a CONDITIONED REFLECTION.

    2. Operant conditioning

These types of processes are different because THE PERSON DRIVES THE PROCESS. If I am hot and I notice that by taking off some clothes I improve my temperature there is a great possibility that I will repeat my behavior whenever necessary.

    Operant behavior

When a unit of behavior has consequences that radical behaviorism calls reinforcing, it has the possibility of reoccurring.
