    Introducing The Midnight Library

The Midnight Library is a novel by British author Matt Haig. The book has been variously categorized as fantasy, science fiction, and magic realism. It deals with themes of depression, connecting with people around us, and explores what a successful life actually is.

The book’s protagonist, Nora Seed, was in deep depression. The story started twenty-seven hours before she decided to die. She woke up to the news that her pet cat, Voltaire, was dead after being run over by a car. This news devastated her, making her late for work at the music shop where she was a salesperson. Her boss fired her after more than twelve years of service because of the fact that she is depressed and it doesn’t make for a cheerful experience for customers to deal with her. He also told her that her brother, Joe, was in town. This surprised her since she had not heard from him.

Joe, Ravi, and Nora were once in a successful band called The Labyrinths. Joe and Ravi had been looking forward to their album contract but Nora let them down by pulling out of the band. Joe left his hometown and moved to London to work at an IT job he did not love and was depressed. He and Nora had a rift since the split. He didn’t even bother to inform her that he was in town. Ravi too bore Nora a grudge because of the past. Nora defended herself by saying she wanted her personal relationship to work out but she ditched her fiancé two hours before their wedding, destroying his life as well. Her best friend, Izzy, had moved away to Australia
