Summary Guide - The Mindset Warrior
Introduction
In this Mindset Warrior Summary Guide, we cover the main topics discussed in The Body Keeps The Score
. This book is intended to supplement your reading and be an easy reference guide. You are encouraged to purchase the original book if you have not already.
The difference between this guide and the actual book is that we don't go into the lengthy stories and repetition that most books often do. Instead, we share each principle, explain its reasoning, and then provide insights on how you may apply them to your life. Adverse events color every one of our lives—some more than others—unfortunately, there hidden nature creates a lot of misdirected physiological and psychological responses. This summary guide will cover them.
As I always say, the original books are great to read because they provide a lot of examples. This repetition can help embed the lessons into your psyche. That being said, stripping these lessons down to there core will help you to focus on the things that are retainable and applicable. As I'm sure we can agree, time is very valuable. I am all about maximizing time.

Setting The Stage
The Body Keeps The Score
begins with educating us on the epidemic of trauma. Later in the book, it is even suggested that trauma might be humanities largest health epidemic. After reading this summary, I think you'll understand why that is.
Most of us will encounter trauma at some point in our lives. It takes a variety of forms (combat, sexual molestation, domestic violence, natural disaster, etc.). While trauma survivors do not consistently hold their memories top of mind, it appears their bodies seem to keep the memories a priority. This makes day to day interactions strained, due to frequent—often unpredictable—mental and physical stress responses.
Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
- 1 in 5 Americans were sexually molested as a child
- 1 in 4 Americans were beaten by a parent to the point of a mark being left on their body
- 1 in 3 couples engage in physical violence
- 25% of the population grew up with alcoholic relatives
- 1 in 8 witnessed their mother being beaten or hit
You'll learn other eye opening stats
as you proceed through this summary.
The book is divided into 5 parts:
Part 1 - The origins of a trauma diagnosis
Part 2 - The body's response to trauma
Part 3 - The effects of childhood trauma
Part 4 - The way trauma affects memory
Part 5 - Methods for healing trauma
At the end of the day, we're all trying to survive. If we find ourselves in situations where we are unable to escape threats, our bodies tend to develop a physiological imprint, in order to protect us going forward. While it means well, it is detrimental to our normal functioning and social engagement. Trauma treatment is all about taming that physiological imprint, but factors like: memory,
