Summary Guide - The Mindset Warrior
Introduction
In this Mindset Warrior Summary Guide, we cover the main topics discussed in The Carnivore Code
. This book is intended to supplement your reading and be an easy reference guide. You are encouraged to purchase the original book if you have not already.
The difference between this guide and the actual book is that we don't go into the lengthy stories and repetition that most books often do. Instead, we share each principle, explain its reasoning, and then provide advice on how you can apply each to your life, in order to build and maintain resilient health.
As I always say, the original books are great to read because they provide a lot of examples. This repetition can help to embed the lessons into your psyche. That being said, stripping these lessons down to there core will help you to focus on the things that really matter. As I'm sure we can agree, time is very valuable. I am all about maximizing time.

Setting The Stage
The Carnivore Code
starts with a foreword by Mark Sisson, the author of The Primal Blueprint
and The Keto Reset Diet
.
Mark discusses his hesitation with embracing a carnivore diet when he first heard about it, and how over time the research and results convinced him that it was a viable option.
The book continues on to the introduction where Paul describes his fascination with constructing an ideal human diet. He says that if we examine all factors of health, an optimal diet should have 3 attributes:
(a) all the nutrients needed for the body to function optimally
(b) nutrients in their most bioavailable form
(c) the least amount of toxins
Paul believes the diet that includes those 3 attributes is a nose-to-tail carnivore diet. The entire book is devoted to promoting the diet, but through the route of examining science and ancestral history.
The overall premise is that animal foods are the most healthful foods, while plant foods are sub-optimal because of their low bioavailability and toxins.
Paul believes that through eating a nose-to-tail carnivore diet, you can have the following benefits:
- Increased energy & mental clarity
- Improved sex drive
- Weight loss
- Improvements in mental health
Paul says that his medical training taught him short-term fixes that often come with unpleasant side effects. Instead of going that route, Paul hopes to empower you to get to the root cause of your health ailments. He believes the quickest way to get there is through adjusting your diet.
Paul's Story
Paul goes on to tell his story of struggling with eczema growing up. In college he started taking oral steroids to help his autoimmune condition, and while they worked, they came with side effects like insomnia and weight gain.
After college, Paul spent 6 years as a nomad. He traveled the country and world engaging in outdoor activities. After his adventures, he decided to become a physician assistant. When he started working in the field, he saw how modern medicine was performed and found he himself disgusted with the low quality results that patients were getting. Doctors were able to slow health decline with medicine, but the underlying issues were hardly addressed.
Unsatisfied, Paul decided to go back to medical school. He went to the University of Arizona for 4 years, then he did a 4 year psychiatry residency at the University of Washington. He said this second go around gave him a new perspective. He found his colleagues and professors weren't interested in digging deeper to uncover root causes, they were just looking at treatments.
The first major shift came during his time as a physician assistant. At the time, Paul was able to enhance his cognition and body composition by adopting a paleo diet. He avoided dairy, beans, and grains, and he ate organic meats and plant foods. He followed the diet for 10 years, but his eczema was still an issue. At one point, his skin was so infected that he developed impetigo, cellulitis, and sepsis.
In an attempt to solve his eczema, Paul tried cutting out various food categories (oxalates, lectins, high histamine foods, etc.), but his issues persisted.
Then in 2018, Paul learned about the carnivore diet when he heard Jordan Peterson mention it on the Joe Rogan podcast.
Jordan was telling Joe how it helped his physical and mental health, and how it helped his daughter overcome some severe autoimmune issues. That encounter sent Paul down a research rabbit hole. After months of research, he decided to try a carnivore diet.
Paul says he saw results within 3 days. One of the results that surprised him was an intense level of emotional
