About this ebook

Why does our health decline? Lack of maintenance.

It is hard to know where to start. Luckily, you have found it. When I started searching for ways to improve my own health, my research found 27 health factors all intertwined with each other. I had enough information to be helpful to others. Why not write a book?
Examining these health factors gives you a wholistic look at yourself and your surroundings. I love golf, so I included a scorecard for you to fill out. You know you, better than anyone else. The scorecard makes it easy to realize where maintenance is required. I have also included suggestions for making improvements on each health factor.

This is a very good starting point for anyone trying to improve their health. My hope is that this is the only book you will need to stay happy and healthy, balanced, and at ease.

    Acknowledgements

I would like to thank Susan, my partner in life, for her contributions to this book. Her knowledge of the human body gained through her studies of the BodyTalk System, have been very helpful. Her feminine vibration and perspective brought balance to my words. I like the old sayings, the old wisdom. Behind every good author is a good woman. I may have changed that one a little bit, but it is so true for me.

I would also like to thank: Katie for her many sticky notes. Katie’s preliminary edit showed me the importance of good sequencing to improve readability. Kristina for design of the scorecard, maintenance tables and printing my first draft. Dustin for his suggestion to improve my scoring system. Gord for his thoughts and encouragement. A little help from family and friend, made improvements to the book.

    About the Cover

The front cover is about making a plan to be healthy. The graph paper represents the starting point for many projects or plans. The imagery of the clouds, depict a not so good day. The sun, we know the sun is behind the clouds and when it returns, it feels so good to feel its warmth again. Every cloud has a silver lining.

    Introduction to 27 Health Factors

I have always enjoyed relatively good health, but somewhere around the age of forty-five, things started to slip. First, it was the usual greying of the hair (and less of it), sore back and hip, reading glasses, and the need to take a nap to make it through the day. Then there was a sudden trip to the hospital for an inner ear problem that made me throw up if I moved too fast. The tinnitus that followed was the worst. I didn’t get much help for my ear by going to the doctor. However, I was not willing to accept my declining health. I was not interested in ending up in a nursing home as my mother did. Therefore, I became interested in self-care.

While I was researching on the internet, I came across many people with many ideas and many books: Donna Eden, Lou Tice, The American Monk, Esther & Jerry Hicks, Richard Gordon, Sam Graci, Dr. Bradley Nelson, Bruce Lipton, Lee Holden, and Dr. Lissa Rankin are some of the people whose books have helped me. Most of the books concentrated on a single subject or health factor. I believe we must consider all the factors and take a wholistic approach to self-care. Whenever I came across something interesting, I would save it in an appropriate file on my computer. My wife was also interested in better health so it gave us something to discuss and ponder. I have always enjoyed puzzles, so I tried to think of every possible thing I could that affects my health. I started out with ten jam-packed files and soon after I had 12, and then 18. I love golf, so 18 seemed the perfect place to stop. It is hard to put everything I’ve learned into a neat and tidy category, especially since all the issues related to one’s health are so interconnected.

With all this information I had compiled, I thought I could be a health coach when I retired. Coaching is tricky, though; there is too much information to convey in one-hour sessions. So, I decided to put the basics into a book. While working on the book, I came up with nine more health factors, which made 27 in total. But, there are only 18 holes in golf. Luckily, I was able to incorporate these into the original 18 files, which have become the chapters of this book. I feel strongly that by making an improvement on any one of the 27 health factors, it will improve one’s health. If you examine and maintain all of the health factors, it will help you "To Keep or Restore Your Health". On the flip side, ignoring even one of these health factors could keep you from your goal of being happy and healthy. One health factor
