Getting results
In my daily work, I constantly meet people who are suffering needlessly. People who have minor health issues like migraines, major health issues like cancer or diabetes and those who worry about the health of their children, spouses or others they care about. Some of these issues have complex causes but many others are caused or exacerbated by the lack of simple self-care or body maintenance. After having countless conversations and witnessing first hand what a great difference basic body care can make to our health, I made the decision to put these observations down in writing.
Simple self-care is usually the least expensive and most effective because it gets to the root of the problem. Also, after learning self-care, it’s the most easy to maintain because it feels good and it’s part of our natural wiring. Once we implement it into our lives, it feels natural and right. It’s often just a matter of remembering what we instinctively already know and most likely practiced as children.
It’s tempting to believe that we can purchase
our health if we find just the right product to buy. Sometimes we want to believe that we can take shortcuts and forego the time and attention it takes to take care of ourselves. In the end, there is no arguing that supplements, pills and powders will not make up for neglect and abuse of our bodies.
Much of what I learned on the topic of self-care came from trying to combat the results of deep neglect of my own health. I had to learn self-care habits to regain my precious health and vitality. What you will find in these pages are things I have lived and personally benefitted from practicing. I encourage you to read this information with an open mind but not to simply accept my words as your truth. The best way to use this book is to read and experiment with the advice and, if necessary, to tweak it to fit your needs and circumstances.
At age 30, I slid down to a low point in my life. I felt and looked terrible. My energy was depleted to the point where I had a hard time working to support myself financially. Everyday was a struggle to get up and go to work. It wasn’t a lack of motivation, but energy and strength. My immune system felt depleted and weak. In fact, weak and depleted
would be a fitting description for me on every level. My heart was full of desire to participate in life but it seemed that my body was not cooperating.
I saw medical doctors, herbalists and a list of other natural health practioners. I attended workshops, seminars and read countless books on health. A speaker at one workshop I attended told the group, You are your best nutritionist and the most knowledgeable expert on your body.
This made me angry. I mean, was he saying he didn’t
