A Treaty is signed by the Native Nations and approved by the US Senate in 1839. It sells certain Indian lands in the State of Washington to the US government with a few restrictions that must always be followed.

Detective Rage is yearning for back home in Idaho and wants to plant a garden. All she now raises are slugs. Seattle’s weather makes a garden difficult unless you plant water crest. She researches the garden plants that grows in western Washington. After she researches, she calls her friend patrolman Jones for help. Of course he agrees and brings his shovel and a tape measure. The problem is not solved quickly. He goes to the property section of the County and obtains the description of Rage’s property. He finds that an old stream use to flow through this area and she has it on her land. They next find her west property line is off by several feet.

The County’s property section find another document that relates to Rage’s property and gives it to Jones. It is an old Treaty between several Indian Nations and the US Government. They cannot read it and take it to the Go-Shoot Nation to see if they can read it. After much effort they finally read the treaty.

The Washington State’s Attorney General receives a lawsuit stating they are violating the Treaty and must return all the land known as western Washington back to the Indians!
What is the white man violating in the Treaty, what of the sacred but now dry stream on Rage’s property, must she move? The biggest question is why is the sacred stream now dry?
Who is Running Doe, can she help Rage plant anything and how does she know Running Fire?

    It is late winter, and Janette Wanda Rage has the urge to plant something. It is Rage to her friends.

    She calls patrolman Samuel Ray Jones, Jones to his friends, Jones, you have any ideas on what I should start to plant in my backyard. All I am raising are slugs.

    Jones is all smiles, I have no specific ideas. We need to talk with your neighbors that garden. The local farm bureau will have some good ideas. I would say your slug farm may be the best you could do.

    So the quest starts to find out what might grow good, besides slugs.

    In the local ‘farm bureau’ the phone rings, Extension service how may I help you.

    Rage is sitting by the table with her feet on it, Hi, I want to plant things in my back yard. I live out near Lake Sammamish. I know it is more what can I grow than what I want to grow.

    She hears, "Lettuce, cucumbers, zucchini maybe, onions, pole beans. Anything that needs or can stand lots of water. Anything that needs lots of heat usually does not do very well. Who knows what the season will bring?

    You can start tomatoes in the house and hope the sun comes out later. Otherwise they will be small and green. I can send you some pamphlets and other material. It will show you how to test the acid in the soil and how to sweeten it. The kit shows you how to use it. Have fun.

    Rage, while waiting for the package goes to the library. In Idaho you don’t worry about too much water. You worry about how to get more on the garden. She knows how to conserve, not to keep the water away.

    In the library there are rows of books on water and how to keep it away from your garden.
