About this audiobook

The Demon King has started a new monarchy in the United States.

It used to be that the president was the most powerful person in the country. That all changed when Wrath crossed over to our world. Nothing could stop him. Nothing can kill him. Eventually we all bowed at his altar.

Now there are websites dedicated to worshipping him. Countless internet memes about how ridiculously gorgeous he is. And yeah, I can admit he’s fine as hell. But he’s a villain to end all villains. There’s no way I’m falling prey to that.

That is until I accidentally cross paths with the Demon King. Wrath demands I bow to him. For a second, I almost do. Being around him is...consuming. But dying is better than surrendering, and I refuse.

Except when Wrath turns his dark, dangerous power on me...it doesn’t work. And now the villain is looking at me like I’m the enemy.

I manage to get away, but word quickly spreads—Rain Low, a nobody from a tourist town, is somehow immune to the Demon King.

Now Wrath is hellbent on destroying me and those who want to destroy him are hellbent on using me.

But I’m no heroine. And I’m certainly no villain. But if I’m going to survive, I have to play the game. If the Demon King wants a fight, he’s going to get one.

Note: Ruthless Demon King is the first book in a villain enemies-to-lovers paranormal romance trilogy. You can expect lots of tension, action, twists, and hate kissing, and a villain you love to love. Ruthless Demon King is a full-length novel and ends on a cliff-hanger, but the trilogy is now complete. Love Nikki St. Crowe’s books. This story is no exception, so it deserves a good rating. However, I truly cannot stand the way this was narrated. Weird inflections, awful voices (mostly the male ones), and every single sentence is said too forcefully. The whole thing is abrasive and blunt.

I want to finish this but I don’t like the narration. The male voices are especially bad. I’m almost half way through.

First book in the Wrath and Rain series. Good start, looking forward to discovering their secrets.

I’m three chapters away from the end and I gotta say I’m not into this. I know that when writing a “good” story there needs to be some kind of internal struggle that the main character has, but ..*Maybe Spoiler ahead*

for me it’s a bit off putting with how quick she is to have sex with the demon king only to turn on him to the point of trying to kill him afterwards. I know it’s totally plausible, but for me the whole way it went down just didn’t make me feel like I could relate in any way to the FMC. TBH she seems kinda bitchy and unlikeable, I’m not here for it.

DNF audio at 20%. I may read the book later but voices were trash. I couldn’t take it any longer

The story itself isn’t bad. St. Crowe can write and what I’ve read I’ve liked. That said this was a very slow-moving story that picked up in the second half. The first half drowns in the superfluous details of mundane acts like eating leftover takeaway and drinking coffee. I really wish it was available as an ebook here. Now, can I talk about the unnecessary aggression with which Bordeaux delivers this entire book though? It’s outrageous, bordering on disrespectful to the writer’s work. The whole book was read in the same extra loud, near monotone. Every plosive sounds like an attack, as if there’s nothing in front of the mic during recording. The nervous pace and cadence of her speech leads to oddly placed inflections and is unbelievably distracting. The attempts at male character voices just sound like a woman mocking a man she can’t stand. This actor is no noob, so maybe it’s some of her earlier stuff, but my word! This narration was…not great and it really diminished this listener’s experience.

The first half of the book is a snore—so do yourself a favor and skip until Wrath finally gets her out of the compound. It was a page-turner then. All you need to know is that she is a photographer born to a single mom.
