Description

We hear all the time that it’s impossible to pursue weight loss and have a healthy relationship with food, but that is so dependent on your method! In this episode, TMN Coach Courtney and I are discussing how we help our clients heal their relationship with food and exercise while they lose weight. From embracing eating more calories overall to not making any food off-limits, there are a lot of ways to unlearn harmful diet culture ideas so you can finally have a healthy relationship with food.

Some key takeaways on building a healthy relationship with food are:

It’s so important to eat enough to support your metabolism. Our clients are usually surprised at how much they need to eat in our program because they’re used to thinking you can only consume 1200 calories in order to lose weight. Your body needs more than that!
Have a strong “why” behind your weight loss that isn’t tied to your value or your perception of yourself. Examples might be learning healthier habits to pass on to your kids, or improving your quality of life by increasing your mobility.
Don’t make any food or food groups off limits to yourself unless you’re sensitive to or allergic to them. Unlearning that certain foods like deserts, bread, or oils are “bad” is a huge part of healing your relationship with food.
