Julia turned and smiled at her husband as she heard the front door click shut. Hi, sweetheart. She’d been a little on tenterhooks after her two flings a few weeks back. Max had taken her confession in his stride, as he’d promised up front he would if she ever cheated. What would you like for dinner?

She was still wearing her business suit, not having time to even remove the jacket. Turning her back to him, she opened the freezer, bending down to pull out the bottom drawer. There’s pizza, or we’ve got some of those tuna-filled potato skins you like...

Her voice cut off with a startled shriek. It had been a mistake to turn her back on Max and bend over. The resounding slap as he smacked her through the suit skirt, which had pulled tight over her butt, echoed through the kitchen. She shot straight upright and rounded on him.

Max was grinning, and before she could complete her sentence, he’d stepped closer and swept her into his arms. His enthusiastic kiss pulled no punches and, when he pulled away a minute later, she was breathless.

Hi to you too, honey. You said it right.

Said what right?

What I want for dinner. His eyes seemed to smolder and she knew what was coming. You.

Naughty. She still shivered in anticipation, though.

His hands dropped to the two buttons holding the jacket closed. Almost absently, she used her foot to hook the freezer closed behind her as he finished undoing the second button. There was no way she was going to present him with the opportunity to press her naked body against the drawers of the open freezer like he’d done once before. Never again.

Stop it.

In a word, no. His hands were still busy. Having undone the jacket, they were now making short work of the line of buttons down the front of her white blouse. Her cream-colored bra was quickly exposed.

Stop. We need to eat. Julia knew her protest sounded half-hearted, which, truthfully, it was.

And we will. I’ve booked a table at Francisco’s for nine o’clock.

Francisco’s?

Yeah. I thought a little celebration is in order.

She put her hands on her hips and glared suspiciously at him, heedless of the fact he now had the front of her blouse fully undone. Celebration? What are we celebrating?

Max grinned and leaned in close to kiss her again. She returned the kiss, conscious of his hands easing both the jacket and the blouse backward off her shoulders.
