Nikki propped her pillow against the headboard and sat up in the warmth of the duvet, scrolling through notifications on her phone.

Saturday morning lie-ins without her six-year-old Ollie launching himself onto the bed demanding stories, toast and CBeebies were a rare luxury, and she knew she should make the most of this one by reading a few chapters of the latest book club selection or opening the magazine that lay untouched on her bedside table. Perhaps she could grab an extra hour of sleep like her husband Matt, who was slumbering soundly beside her.
