    To begin, you must understand that I am no longer a youngster. At 58, my metabolism has slowed, as it does in mature people. It is a natural phenomenon.

    But it doesn't have to be that way....at least not to the extent that we've taught our children to bodies as we get older, we react differently. It's an excuse for many of us. Laziness and inactivity creep into our lives, so we must take action to combat them.

    Please remember that ANY weight loss program starts with you...and only you. If you do not decide to change your habits right now, you will fail. While this is again ridiculously simple...ACTION is the keyword here.

    Nobody can help you with this. You must decide to alter you’re eating habits. You must decide whether you want to be able to resume normal breathing and begin regaining the energy that you have lost. Simply assuming that your age is what is holding you back is an excuse.

    If you tell yourself that you won't be able to do it, you won't be able to.

    You must begin with a positive mindset and the knowledge that you are doing something life-changing. I have to tell you...being free of my blood is a wonderful feeling.

    For me, pressure medication was a lifeline. Being able to play basketball with my four newly adopted children changed not only my life...but theirs as well. It's also been nice to be able to reach down and tie my shoelaces without getting out of breath. My pants now fit, and my stomach no longer hangs over my belt like it used to. All of this has given me a new perspective on life, as well as a fresh start.

    Do not undervalue yourself. You ARE CAPABLE! Have faith and believe in yourself! You are making the right decision for your body. I'm not going to go into any more detail because you've probably heard it all before. You've probably already beaten yourself up enough over it. I'm sure I don't need to tell you about the advantages of losing weight...right? And I don't have
