INTRODUCTION

If one reading this book is a believer and familiar with God’s word, the Bible, then one will know that the title speaks of the fact that the day of our homegoing ever draws near, and is even at hand. This event will bring this present third age to an end, as all believers are removed from the earth and as God brings His judgment on all the unbelievers that will then be left on the earth. And there is a very good reason for believers to look up, for our homegoing will occur when God sends His precious Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, to just above the earth to remove all believers from the earth!

What is also important to grasp here is that what we are waiting for as believers is really our GLORIFICATION, which is the third stage of God’s work of salvation. The first stage was our JUSTIFICATION, when God saved us by His love, mercy, grace, and power alone, when in repentance and faith we turned from our sins and our own way to His Son, to believe in Him, that is, to believe the gospel, namely that Christ died for our sins, the just for the unjust, to bring us to God; was buried to put our sins away; and was raised from the dead the third day and is alive forevermore to grant us eternal life with God, which comes to us through Him by The Holy Spirit! Our justification then is a work which God does in a moment of time to begin our salvation, and which never needs to be repeated. Our justification is to be seen as when God saves us from the PENALTY of sin forever!

The second stage of our salvation is our SANCTIFICATION, which is the process which God carries out between the time of our justification and the time of our glorification, whereby He continually works to set us apart for Himself and to accomplish three purposes in particular. The first is that God might teach us to live only by His righteousness, which is His righteous and eternal life that He ever lives and imparts to us as we live with no known unconfessed sins in our lives. The second is to teach us to do His will willingly on earth out of love for Him! The third is to teach us to live a holy life that we might be conformed to the image of His precious Son, The Lord Jesus Christ. And so sanctification, as the second stage of our God-wrought salvation, can be regarded as when God sets out to deliver us from the POWER of sin.

Then the third stage of our salvation, which is what is in view in this book, is our GLORIFICATION, when God brings us from the earth to Heaven, and as He does so, He removes the sinful nature that we incurred in the soul when we became sinners by practice, when we committed our first sin against God at the age of accountability, which is when we first came to know good and evil, and freely chose the evil, thereby sinning against God. And now, at this time of glorification, we experience the redemption of our bodies, in that God now gives us a new spiritual body to last forever, for Heaven is a spiritual place, God is a spirit Being (John 4:24), as also are all the angels who will be there! And so, we see that it is at the time of glorification that God now saves us from the PRESENCE of sin forever!

It should also be noted that there are three sections to the Addendum at the back of the book. Addendum A is a brief outline of the four ages of time; Addendum B is a brief outline of the two separate comings from Heaven to earth of God’s Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, in time; and in Addendum C we have an outline of God’s new creation in time. Then at Addendum D, there is a gospel presentation for how one may have a personal relationship with God, for any readers who might not yet have this vital relationship.

What should also be mentioned before closing this Introduction is that after completing 21 years of formal education and then spending almost 28 years working in Project Engineering and Management in the Corporate offices of two large utilities, God called His servant as a non-denominational evangelist in early 1999, and then sent him out over two thousand miles, away from family and friends, to the place of service God assigned, which is where His servant has been and is still serving Him as evangelist, author, and counselor. The author is a widower with three adopted children, all now married with a family of their own.

But realize this, that IN THE LAST DAYS DIFFICULT TIMES WILL COME. FOR MEN WILL BE lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.

2 Timothy 3:1-5

CHAPTER ONE

How close are we before the end of the present age?

The answer to the question of ‘how close are we before the end of the present age’ is that no one really knows except God, Who alone is Almighty, that is, has all power to accomplish all that He has purposed in time; only God is Sovereign, that is, is in full control of all that exists, whether visible and invisible; and only God is Omniscient, that is, knows all things!

If one has thought of answering the question above by pointing out what God tells us through His Son at Matthew 24:36, which is (which was also said at Mark 13:32), namely, But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone, then please realize that both these verses are speaking of the SECOND STAGE OF THE SECOND COMING OF GOD’S SON from Heaven to earth, which coming will occur approximately seven years after God resumes the second age of time, which will itself resume the very moment the present third age ends! This verse is therefore not applicable to us at present.

The same also applies to what God tells us at Luke 21:28, where we read, But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near, where we are to see that the context for this verse is also to the second stage of the second coming from Heaven to earth of God’s Son, The Lord Jesus Christ! What believers are looking for at the present moment is the return of God’s Son from Heaven to earth at the FIRST STAGE OF THE SECOND COMING OF GOD’S SON! This is an event that God speaks in His word as occurring at the end of the present third age of time!

What is now important for us to grasp is that although only God knows WHEN the present third age ends, which will bring an immediate time of glorification for all the believers of earth, there are nevertheless SIGNS that God gives us to let us know that we are close to the end of the present age, so that we, as believers, might be prepared for our homegoing! These signs that God has given us, and which we are to watch for, are contained in what God regards as THE LAST DAYS!

However, one again needs to be careful to correctly keep events that God speaks about in His word in their proper context, that is, by placing them in the age in which the event actually occurs in! For example, God also speaks of ‘the last days’ in the context of the second age of time, as for instance at Ezekiel 38:16, when God there says in part, It shall come about in the last days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me when I am sanctified through you before their eyes, O Gog.

And God also speaks of the last days in the context of the present third age, as for instance at 2 Timothy 3:1-5, which we will look at below. Then God is also seen as speaking of the ‘last days’ in the context of the fourth age, when He says at Isaiah 2:2, "Now it will come about that in the last days the mountain of the house of the Lord will be established as the chief of
