    INTRODUCTION

I remember attending a local church fellowship a few years ago, where the title from this book was written in very large letters on the left side of the front part of the sanctuary, namely Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift, which is a quote from God’s word, the Bible, at 2 Corinthians 9:15. Then underneath were the words, in equally large letters, Our Lord Jesus Christ. In other words, the leaders of this particular congregation obviously thought that God’s indescribable gift was His precious Son, Jesus Christ.

Even when reading the above for the first time, my immediate thought was, ‘How can God’s precious Son be regarded as indescribable? ‘ After all, is it not God’s desire in time to make His precious Son known to as many people as possible, for in knowing Him, one knows God? That was a mystery to me. But it was not until I did a personal study of the word grace in God’s word that I discovered that God’s indescribable gift at 2 Corinthians 9:15 is actually a reference to God’s grace, and not to His precious Son, Jesus Christ, even though He is the most important and central figure of all history. This was then further confirmed to me when I did a study of the word gift.

This book, therefore, is about the grace of God, which is His indescribable gift to mankind. As the reader will see in reading the book, this is a very important subject, which is why the exclamation, Thanks be to God precedes the words relating to God’s grace. And I will not just be relating information regarding the grace of God here, but rather we will be looking at this very exciting and heartwarming subject in a devotional style. In other words, when looking at this subject of God’s grace for humankind, it should affect our hearts, so that in reading the book, one should be thanking and praising God for His grace!

Something else which is not always realized and should be noted here is that the grace of God is not often something that we become aware of until we are much older in the faith. And there is a reason for this. Grace has its focus on what God does for us. But when we first become a child of God at the moment of our salvation, our thoughts are very much still centered on ourselves. After all, looking after number one was our priority in life before coming to know God. But as we grow in the faith, God sanctifies us, in that He sets us apart more and more each day for Himself, seeking to get us to carry out His will instead of our own. And it is then that we slowly start to become more and more aware of the grace of God. The more we grow spiritually, the more we come to realize that the Christian life is all of God, that is, all of grace!

What should also be mentioned before closing this Introduction is that after completing 21 years of formal education and then spending almost 28 years working in Project Engineering and Management in the Corporate offices of a large utility, God called His servant as a non-denominational evangelist in early 1999; then sent him out over 3000 miles, away from family and friends, to the place of service God assigned; where His servant has been and is still serving Him as evangelist, counselor, author, editor, and publisher. The author is a widower with three adopted children, now married.

A website has been established for the purpose of interacting with readers, which can be found at:

God also led His servant to establish another website specifically for gospel ministry, since the author is an evangelist. That website can be found at:

    http://www.servantofmosthigh.com

And now my prayer is that God will richly bless you as you read this book and greatly minister to your every need in your life, as only God can! To Him be all praise, honor, and glory!

God’s grace is always opposed to man’s works. Either God works, which is by grace alone; or we work, which is by human energy alone.

    CHAPTER ONE

/ Getting a better grasp of what the grace of God is

    1) Seeing the grace of God as a gift

The first thing that God tells us about His grace at 2 Corinthians 9:15 is that it is an indescribable gift. And what we need to keep in mind at the outset here is that this is what God says about His grace. In other words, this is the word of God, and not that of man. And
