About this ebook

What God does in the book of Hebrews is show His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, as being superior to all that can be found in creation, which therefore means that He can be not only one’s Lord and Savior, but also one’s access into the very Presence of God The Father, as one’s Mediator, High Priest, and Intercessor! And while this commentary is expository in nature (that is, explained in some detail), it is still intended to be devotional, heartwarming, and as practical as possible to help believers live out their faith in these last days of the present age!

    INTRODUCTION

This letter of God to the Hebrews is a very important one due to the fact that God here elevates His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, above all there is in existence in creation and shows us, as a human race, that He is FAR SUPERIOR THAN ANYONE OR ANYTHING ELSE IN ALL CREATION! Secondly, the book of Hebrews is also an interesting letter from God due to the fact that it is the only book of the New Testament that God does not reveal the believer through whom God gave this word to mankind, and to believers in particular!

And there are three things that we should be aware of at the outset. The first is that the Biblical text that God gave will be included as part of the text of this book, so that the reader will not have to turn to the Bible to read that text. It will appear in italics. Then secondly, each chapter has been broken into smaller sections, which will begin with italicized text, with a brief explanation supplied as a help of what is covered in that particular section. And thirdly, at times comments are supplied by the author, which will be in brackets in the text of God’s word, as an additional help to the reader.

Then we are to also note that there is an Addenda at the back of the book with five sections. In Addendum A, there is a brief outline of the four ages of time, for any reading the book who might not be familiar with this information. In Addendum B, there is a brief outline of the two comings from Heaven to earth in time of God’s Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, for any who may not be familiar with this information either. Then in Addendum C, we have an exposition of God’s new creation in time, which He brought about through His Son! Then at Addendum D, we have valuable information regarding God’s first and new covenant that He did establish with mankind in time. Then the fifth and last Addendum is Addendum E, which is a presentation of the gospel, which is the good news that God has given in His word regarding His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, for any readers who might not have as yet this vital personal relationship with God, through faith in His Son.

What should also be mentioned before closing this Introduction, because we are all somewhat curious by nature, is that after completing 21 years of formal education and then spending almost 28 years working in Project Engineering and Management in the Corporate offices of two large utilities, God called His servant as a non-denominational evangelist in early 1999, and then sent him out over two thousand miles, away from family and friends, to the place of service God assigned, which is where His servant has been, and is still serving Him, as evangelist, author, and counselor. The author is a widower with three adopted children, all now married with a family of their own.

And now my prayer is that God will richly bless you as you read this book, and greatly minister to every need in your life, as only God can! To Him be all praise, honor, and glory, with thanksgiving, both now and forevermore! Amen.

    HEBREWS CHAPTER ONE

    Verses 1 to 14

Hebrews 1:1-3, God here disclosing that in the last days He has spoken to us in His Son

As God begins this very important letter to the Hebrews, we note that He begins by disclosing that in these last days He is not speaking as He did in the past, but now doing so IN His Son, which is an important truth that is being revealed to us, noting what we read at Hebrews 1:1-3 to begin with, [1] God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, [2] in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. [3] And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high…

When we see the mention of God’ at verse 1:1, this is a reference to God The Father, Who is indicating to us here that in the past, which God refers to as long ago, He used to speak to the fathers in the prophets. Since God is addressing the Hebrews in this letter, and since the first Hebrew in Scripture was Abraham (noting Genesis 14:13), then it is clear that by the term the fathers God is first making reference to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, through whom God did bring the nation of Israel into existence (noting Genesis 12:2 in reference to Abraham; noting Genesis 21:12,13 in reference to Isaac; and noting Genesis 35:9-11; 46:2,3 in reference to Jacob). This is also clear from what God tells us at Acts 7:32, where we read in part, I am the God of your fathers (same word as Hebrews 1:1 in the original Greek), the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob,

And we are to see that the term the fathers also refers to the people of the nation of Israel, as is clear from what we see at John 6:58, where we read of what God’s Son said at the time of His first coming, This is the bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers (same word as at Hebrews 1:1) who ate and died; he who eats this bread will live forever.

What this also means then is that the long ago that God has in view here at verse 1:1 is the second age of time, which is the age in which God was dealing with the nations of the earth through the believers of the nation of Israel, with this age beginning at Genesis 12:1 with the call of Abraham and continuing on right up to Acts 1:21, which is when that second age was interrupted to bring in the present third age of time, starting at Acts 2:1-4 with the coming of The Holy Spirit. The reader may want to pause here for a moment and read Addendum A regarding the four ages of time at the back of the book before resuming here.

And what this also means then is that the prophets that God mentions at verse 1:1 are those men He raised up to speak to the nation of Israel during the second age of time, who are therefore all the prophets that we see mentioned throughout that portion of God’s word in the Old Testament, from Samuel onward (noting Acts 3:24). And the reason that God raised these prophets was in order to speak to the nation of Israel, which was, in many portions, so as to bring them back to walking with God every time they started going astray from Him, noting for instance what God discloses at Nehemiah 9:26,30, in regards to what was there said to the people of the nation of Israel, [26] But they became disobedient and rebelled against You, and cast Your law behind their backs and killed Your prophets who had admonished them so that they might return to You, and they committed great blasphemies… [30] However, You bore with them for many years, and admonished them by Your Spirit through Your prophets, yet they would not give ear. Therefore You gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

And in regards to the many ways also mentioned at verse 1:1, let us note from Numbers 12:6 how God did speak through those prophets, He said, Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, shall make Myself known to him in a vision. I shall speak with him in a dream."

However, as we then see from verse 1:2 this all changed with the first coming of God’s Son from Heaven to earth. That the first coming to earth of God’s Son is in view here is clear from what God says of Him at verse 1:3, when He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high…, in speaking of when His precious Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, went to the cross, bearing there the sins of the whole human race, so as to provide His Father a basis to forgive the sins of every sinner who comes to God by faith in Him before physical death came (noting John 14:6; 1 Peter 3:18), being then buried and raised from the dead the third day, before ascending back to where He had come from, which was at His Father’s right Hand in Heaven, which speaks of a place of exaltation, preeminence, and power!

It is very, very important that we grasp here that God The Father is here addressing the nation of Israel, who are the Hebrews in view here in this letter, in pointing them to His Son, Who at His first coming from Heaven to earth came to that nation as THE LAST PROPHET that God would send to them in time. God had prophesied through Moses at Deuteronomy 18:15 that He would do so, as we there read, The Lord your GOD WILL RAISE UP FOR YOU A PROPHET like me FROM AMONG YOU, FROM YOUR OWN COUNTRYMEN, you shall listen to him.

And so, when God’s Son did come to earth at His first coming from Heaven to earth, it was as born of a virgin of the nation of Israel, as God had foretold at Genesis 3:15 with Isaiah 7:14, this being also clear from what we read at Matthew 1:18-25. Those who were believers of the nation of Israel at His first coming did recognize God’s Son as indeed being a Prophet, noting Luke 24:19, which was also what God’s Son Himself gave testimony to, noting Matthew 13:57; and also what the general population of the nation of Israel saw Him as being, noting Matthew 21:11.

We are also to notice from Hebrews 1:2 that when God speaks of the last days, He is there making reference FROM the time that His Son came from Heaven to earth at His first coming TO the end of time, which takes in all of the New Testament period from Matthew 1:1 to Revelation 22:21, and which we see also takes in part of the second age of time, the third age, and also the fourth age! What this means then is that it is in this time period and going on into eternity that God The Father is henceforth speaking in and through His Son, ever doing so by The Holy Spirit!

These last days here at verse 1:2 are not to be confused with the last days of each of the four ages of time. In other words, each age of time also has last days. For instance, the last days mentioned at Ezekiel 38:16 refer to the end of the second age of time, that is, the last seven years of it during the tribulation period yet to come. The last days mentioned at 2 Timothy 3:1 refers to the end of the present third age of time; and the last days mentioned at Jeremiah 23:20 refers to the end of the fourth age of time!

Then coming back to Hebrews 1:2, we are to see that it is in the last days just described above, namely from the first coming of God’s Son from Heaven to earth, until the end of time and on into eternity, that God The Father now speaks in His Son. In other words, as always indwelling His Son, doing so by The Holy Spirit! That this is so is not only the testimony of Scripture (noting John 14:10,24), but is also to be realized due to the fact that God is One and speaks with one voice! What this also means is that God The Father is The Source of all things, in that all originates from Him, with God The Father also always indwelling, speaking through, and working through His own dear Son by The Holy Spirit (noting Romans 11:36; and 1 Corinthians 8:6; 11:12).

And before we go on to note seven key truths that God The Father shares regarding His Son at verses 1:2,3, it is critically important that we grasp again here that in this letter God is addressing the Hebrews, with God doing so here for the purpose of bringing the believers of the nation of Israel in particular into a fuller knowledge of His only begotten Son, The Lord Jesus Christ. What is meant here is that when God did speak to the nation of Israel about His Son during the second age of time, it was AS HIM COMING FROM HEAVEN TO EARTH AT SOME TIME IN THE FUTURE, as God had foretold starting at Genesis 3:15.

What this means is that those of the nation of Israel who were believers came to faith in God’s Son as coming in the future, but until He came He was being foreshadowed in the animal sacrifices and offerings. In other words, these spoke of the sacrifice of God’s Son in one way or another. For instance, we read at Leviticus 1:1-9 of the burnt offering of an animal from the herd or the flock, which one was to bring to the Levitical priests for a sacrifice on one’s behalf, which had to be a male without defect, where one laid one’s hands on the head before the priest killed it, skinned it, cut it to pieces, and offered it all on the altar of burnt offering. This of course spoke of God’s sinless Son going to die on a cross, bearing there the sins of a sinful human race, as was the case with the grain offering mentioned next at Leviticus 2.

However, as God gives this letter to the Hebrews, as those who are believers of the nation of Israel, HIS SON HAS NOW COME FROM HEAVEN TO EARTH, which means that these Hebrews are to look at God’s Son in a different way than their forefathers did during the second age of time. In other words, they were to see His Son as now portrayed from Matthew 1:1 onward! All that God said about Him from before that point was only to prepare the nation of Israel to recognize Him when He came, so that they might believe in Him, and then tell the nations of the earth about Him.

For we need to ever keep in mind that the reason God raised the nation of Israel in the first place was to bring His WRITTEN WORD to them, so that they in turn might share that written word with the nations of the earth, and then also to bring His WORD MADE FLESH TO THEM, since it was through the nation of Israel that God had chosen to bring His Son to earth in a human birth! Therefore it is imperative that we remember these truths as we proceed with God’s letter to the Hebrews!

And so, going on now to Hebrews 1:2,3 and those seven truths that God now shares with them regarding His Son, we note that the first truth God wants these believers to know and remember is that in eternity past, before time began with the original creation, God appointed His Son heir of all things. This should not surprise us for The Lord Jesus Christ is The Father’s ONLY BEGOTTEN SON (noting John 1:18; 3:16,18; 1 John 4:9)!

In common usage, an heir is one who receives an inheritance from one’s father upon his death. However, since God The Father is an eternal Being, Who is never subject to death, this means that all He has – which is all that has been created at the original creation, since as we have seen He is the Source of all things – then this means that this is the inheritance of God’s one and only Son. In other words, God’s Son is always in possession of His inheritance, which is all that The Father has, which was given to Him by His Father in eternity past, when God The Father appointed Him heir of all things! Since God The Father ever lives, then this means that the inheritance was never intended as being something that would be in the future, but rather would always be in the possession of His Son during all of time, starting with the original creation and going on into eternity future!

Then the second truth that God points out regarding His Son at verse 1:2 is that it is THROUGH HIM that God The Father brought all into existence at the original creation, doing so by The Holy Spirit! Let us note what God tells us in regards to this at John 1:2,3, where we read, [2] He (God’s Son) was in the beginning with God (The Father). [3] All things came into being through Him (God’s Son), and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. What this means then is that as this original creation we are now part of was about to be brought into existence by God The Father through His Son by The Holy Spirit, there was only God The Father, His Son, and The Holy Spirit in existence at that moment, as had been the case for all eternity past!

The third truth that God The Father then discloses regarding His only begotten Son is that He is the radiance of His glory, meaning that in one looking at God’s Son, one would see all the glory that God The Father has as coming through Him! When Moses asked God The Father to show him His glory at Exodus 33:18, God The Father replied as follows, at verses 19 to 23, [19] And He said, I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the Lord before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion. [20] But He said, You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live! [21] Then the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by Me, and you shall stand there on the rock; [22] and it will come about, WHILE MY GLORY IS PASSING BY, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand UNTIL I HAVE PASSED BY. [23] Then I will take My hand away and you shall see My back, but My face shall not be seen."

So what Moses saw of God’s glory that day was all of God’s goodness, which was portrayed in a preIncarnate appearance of His Son going away from him so that all Moses saw of Him was His back!

Since God’s Son is the visible expression of The invisible God, as we are told at Colossians 1:15, then this means that after God’s Son came to earth in visible human form at His first coming, He had in Himself all the radiance of The glory of God The Father, although veiled by that human body. There did come a day, however, when that radiance of God’s glory was allowed to be shown to three of His disciples, this being at the time of His transfiguration, as we see for instance at Matthew 17:2, And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light.

However, later on, as we see at Revelation 1:12 to 16, the apostle John was allowed to see God’s Son in Heaven, now ascended to His Father’s right Hand after His death at the cross, His burial, and His resurrection from the dead the third day, now showing forth the full radiance of the glory of God The Father, without being veiled by His body of flesh, having now been transformed and now having a spiritual body that could fully show forth the fullness of the glory of God! And in seeing that glory, the apostle John immediately fell in his face, as we then see there at Revelation 1:17!

As God continues at verse 1:3, He now discloses a fourth truth about His only begotten Son, which is that He is the exact representation of His nature, that is, the very essence of what God is like! One reason for God The Father sending His Son to earth at His first coming from Heaven was to make God The Father, Who is always invisible to human beings, known to human beings through Him; so that in coming to know the now visible Son, human beings could come to know God The Father also!

Let us note what God says of His Son at John 1:18, No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God (in reference to His Son) who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him. And so, that is why God’s Son could say to one of His disciples later at John 14:9 in part, He who has seen Me has seen the Father, because He was in human flesh an exact representation of nature what His precious Father was in Heaven as a spirit Being!

Then a fifth truth that God The Father goes on to disclose, also at verse 1:3 regarding His only begotten Son, is that He upholds all things by the word of His power. In speaking of the same truth at Colossians 1:17, God there says of His Son, in Him all things hold together, speaking of all that is in existence since the original creation having continuity, because being upheld and caused to move forward in accordance with the eternal plan of God for His creation.

What we are to also note here is that God brought into being all that exists at the original creation, by simply speaking it into existence, as we see for instance at Genesis 1:3, Then God said, Let there be light; and there was light, and noting also what we are told at Psalm 33:9, For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast." What this means then is that from the second truth that God shared at verse 1:2, we have seen that it was THROUGH HIS SON that God brought that original creation into existence in the first place, and so it follows that once into existence it would be upheld THROUGH HIS SON also, as God now shares in this fifth truth!

What we ever need to remember here is that God is One, Who made Himself known in Three Persons of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (noting Matthew 28:19), so that none of these three Divine Persons in our One God ever acts independently of the others, which further means that God’s Son never acts apart from His Father, or The Holy Spirit for that matter, this being clear from what He said at John 14:10 for instance, Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. As was stated earlier, God The Father always exists, speaks, and works all things through His Son by The Holy Spirit, and so that includes having created all that exists through His Son by The Holy Spirit, and now also includes upholding all things that exist through His Son by The Holy Spirit!

And so, in practical terms this means that the earth, the sun, the moon, and the stars, for instance, all continue in the orbit that God established for each at the original creation. It also means that no human being is born into this world or leaves this world through death apart from God The Father acting through His Son by The Holy Spirit. Nothing is ever an accident or a coincidence, but everything in creation in both time and eternity to come is all perfectly synchronized and acting in accordance with the plan that God put in place when that original creation occurred!

What also needs to be remembered here is that God is ALMIGHTY, which means that He has all power to accomplish all that He has planned; and He is also SOVEREIGN, which means that all things that exist, whether good or evil, are all under His absolute control! And this of course means that since God now upholds all things through His Son, then it is that same power that is at work through His Son by The Holy Spirit! It is through His Son that God’s will is accomplished in time, in accordance with God’s word!

Then coming to the sixth truth which God The Father shares about His Son, also at verse 1:3, is that He made purification of sins. What God is pointing to here is that God sent His only begotten and eternally existing Son to this earth to take on the body that He had prepared for Him in the womb of a virgin (noting Hebrews 10:5), which was for the express purpose of undoing the work of the devil!

For we are to see here that at Genesis 2:16,17, God had given the first man, Adam, a command and a warning, which was that Adam would die if he ever sinned against God by disobeying His command. There came a day when Satan, the devil, did lead our first parents, Adam and Eve, into sin, as we see at Genesis 3:1-6, which then led God to say to the devil at verse 3:15, And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He (in reference to God’s coming Son) shall bruise you (Satan) on the head, and you shall bruise him (God’s Son) on the heel.

God was here foretelling that a day would come when His Son would come to this earth to be born of a woman, which was for the express purpose of undoing the devil’s work, who had brought sin and death to the human race (Romans 5:12), noting what God tells us here at 1 John 3:8 in this regard, the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. THE SON OF GOD APPEARED FOR THIS PURPOSE, TO DESTROY THE WORKS OF THE DEVIL, which therefore means that God’s Son came from Heaven to this earth to deal with mankind’s problem of sin and death!

And of course God’s Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, accomplished this when He died on the cross, there bearing in His own body the sins of the whole human race during those three hours of darkness from 12 noon to 3 pm (noting Mark 14:33,34), thereby dealing with mankind’s sin. And then after being buried for three days, He was raised from the dead and is now alive forevermore, ascended to His Father’s right Hand again! What this means is that now the forgiveness of sins and eternal life with God is available to every human being, who comes to God through faith in Him (noting John 14:6; 1 Peter 3:18)!

When the ages of time will have run their course, then sin and death will have been reversed by God through His Son, in that all those who are to receive the forgiveness of sins and eternal life in salvation will have been saved, and all human beings on earth will now have a new spiritual body like God’s Son now has, one that is visible, yet now fitted to never die and to last forever. For those who are believers, that will be with God’s Son as King in Heaven; but for those who were still unbelievers when they died physically, this will mean spending eternity with the devil, as king in hell!

And in having made purifications of sins through His own work at the cross in His sinless humanity (noting John 17:4), God’s Son then experienced forty days later (Acts 1:1-3) what God The Father now mentions as a seventh truth here at verse 1:3, which was to ascend to His Father’s right Hand again, and to sit down with Him on His throne (noting Revelation 3:21), which means to a place of exaltation and power and authority! And these are therefore the seven truths that we are to remember here as what God made known to the Hebrews in this letter!

Hebrews 1:4-14, God here disclosing that His Son is much superior than angelic beings, as He is more excellent in every way and also has a more excellent Name than they!

As God continues, He now discloses at Hebrews 1:4-14 that His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, as now ascended to His right Hand and therefore sharing in His exaltation, His power, and His authority over all creation, is far superior than the angelic beings, by virtue of the fact that He excels in every way and has a more excellent Name than they have, noting to begin with what God says here at Hebrews 1:4, having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.

The first question one could ask here is: What does God mean when He says that His Son has now become much better than the angels? What we are to see as an answer, which is based on what God has already revealed at verses 1:2,3 in regards to His Son, is that to God The Father, His Son is more excellent, in terms of excelling in every way, which therefore renders Him far superior than any of the angelic beings, including the angels which God mentions here.

And the reason the ‘angelic beings’ are being noted here is due to the fact that there are various orders of angelic beings, as created by God at the original creation, with the angels being only one such order. For instance, we have angels, which are the largest group by far, consisting of both unfallen angels, noting Genesis 28:12, and also fallen angels, noting Revelation 12:9; then also archangels, where it appears that there are only two, that being Gabriel, noting Luke 1:19, and Michael, noting Jude 1:9, being also the only ones given a name, apart from Satan, the devil. Then we have the mention of cherubs or cherubim, noting Genesis 3:24, and this is what Satan, the devil, himself was, noting Ezekiel 28:14. These cherubs/cherubim are also seen to be referred to as living beings, noting Ezekiel 1:5 with Ezekiel 10:15; And lastly, we also have the mention of seraphim, noting Isaiah 6:2, which are also referred to as living creatures, noting Revelation 4:6.

The likely reason that God only mentions angels at verse 1:4 here is due to the fact that this was the order that the nation of Israel was most familiar with during the second age of time, in that it was unfallen angels which most frequently took on male appearance and appeared visibly to them, noting for instance Genesis 19:1; 2 Samuel 24:17; Daniel 3:28; 6:22; Matthew 1:20; 28:5; and Luke 1:11,12.

The important truth to remember here is that God’s Son has been declared by His Father as being far superior to the angels, which includes all the various orders, with God going on to give a reason why this is so here at verse 1:4, which is that, He has inherited a more excellent name than they, with God then going on to elaborate on this statement by further saying at Hebrews 1:5, For to which of the angels did He ever say, You are My Son, today I have begotten You? And again, I will be a Father to Him and He shall be a Son to Me?

In other words, God The Father is pointing out here that His Son is far superior to the angels, because HE IS GOD’S ETERNALLY EXISTING SON, which is what God is declaring here when He quotes from what He had said to His Son at Psalm 2:7, You are my Son. This was never something that God ever said or even could say, to any of the angels, who are but created beings brought into existence by God, and therefore had a beginning in time; in contrast to God’s Son, Who has always eternally existed with His Father, and Who therefore had no beginning of existence in time!

When God adds here, as what He also said to His Son at Psalm 2:7 in the past, today I have begotten you, He is simply indicating, in saying, today, that there is a specific day in time, which was still future at that time, when God would bring His Son from Heaven to earth, as born of a woman, as God had promised to do at Genesis 3:15!

Then we again see God quote from the Old Testament at verse 1:5 and now says, And again, I will be a Father to Him and He shall be a Son to Me?, as also being something that God never did say, not could ever say, to any of the angels! Some take this as being a quote from 2 Samuel 7:14 here, which reads, I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; when he commits iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of men and the strokes of the sons of men, which verse, when looked at in context of verses 12 to 17, clearly refers to Solomon, who followed his father David on the throne over the nation of Israel.

What we need to grasp here that the quote that God has in mind here at verse 1:5 actually comes from 1 Chronicles 17:13 (noting verses 10a to 17 for context), which is the same passage that the prophet Nathan spoke to king David at 2 Samuel 7, but which now no longer applies to Solomon, but now solely applies to God’s coming Son! So let us note 1 Chronicles 17:13 here, where we read, I will be his father and he shall be My son; and I will not take My lovingkindness away from him, as I took it from him (Saul) who was before you (David).

So there are two truths that we need to grasp here. The first is that as Solomon was a son to David, who was his father, so too will God’s Son be a Son to God His Father when He comes from Heaven to earth at the appointed time! And the second truth to grasp here is that whereas Solomon turned out to be a disobedient son to his father, God’s Son in contrast will be an obedient Son to His Father!

And so, when God’s Son did come to earth as born of a woman (a virgin of the nation of Israel), He could rightfully say, as we see at John 6:38, For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. Then when His time on earth at His first coming from Heaven to earth had ended, He could again rightfully say to His Father in Heaven, what we now read at John 17:4, "I glorified You
