Getting to Know God THE PROVIDENCE OF GOD
When Abraham, the father of the Jewish people, was commanded by God to sacrifice his son Isaac, he dutifully set out to accomplish this horrible deed. He took his son and headed out to Mount Moriah. During the three-day journey, Isaac asked his father, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” – Genesis 22:7. It is here that Abraham spoke words of deep faith, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering” (v. 8).
From this idea that God will provide comes the. Narrowly speaking, it means that God provided the ram for Abraham’s sacrifice. More broadly speaking, it means that nothing happens in creation apart from the active, sovereign will of God.
