INTRODUCTION

This is the type of book that I wish that I would have had as a new believer, when my own journey with God in salvation began one month shy of my thirtieth birthday, at 8:45 pm on January 14th, 1980! On the other hand, it is true that God does come to indwell, through His Son, by His Holy Spirit, every person Whom He saves, as a work of His grace and power alone! What this means then is that God is in us to teach and guide us in the way that we should go, because we are now a child of His and now part of His family! Let us note what He tells us in this regard at Psalm 32:8, I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.

And so, what this book will attempt to do is to provide new believers with some GUIDEPOSTS AND BOUNDARY MARKERS that one can use as one moves forward with God in this new supernatural, spiritual, and eternal life that He has given us. Guideposts are simply points in one’s life that one should be looking for as coming up, for our new life with God is in many ways similar to one’s growth in one’s physical life here on earth. Just as parents want their children to grow into healthy, mature, and productive adults, so too with God as our Father, He too wants His children to grow up into spiritually mature and effective servants of His while on earth!

The boundary markers would be those indicators that tell us when we are going astray, away from the path that God has set out for us. For the reality here is that the moment we become a child of God in salvation, we are transferred from being in the dominion of the evil one, who is Satan, the devil, and have become part of the kingdom of God’s Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, which therefore means that from that moment onward we become an enemy to the devil, who will attempt to do everything he can to detract from the path that God has for us, putting every stumbling block possible in the path of a new believer to try to prevent one from growing into a productive child of God, while at the same time attempting to rob a new believer of one’s peace and joy in one’s walk with God by attempting to lead one into sin!

And so, we will attempt to provide some guidance so as to avoid these traps and pitfalls that are sure to come in one’s life. Just as a physical newborn in this life will stumble and fall in learning to walk, so too will the child of God on occasion fall. But just as the child does not remain on the floor, but gets up and learns from the experience, so too with the child of God, one learns from the experience so as to fall again, and moves on!

And please note that there is an Addendum at the back of the book, where we have a presentation of the gospel, which is the good news that God has given in His word regarding His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, for any readers who might not have as yet this vital personal relationship with God, through faith in His Son.

What should also be mentioned before closing this Introduction, because we are all somewhat curious by nature, is that after completing 21 years of formal education and then spending almost 28 years working in Project Engineering and Management in the Corporate offices of two large utilities, God called His servant as a non-denominational evangelist in early 1999, and then sent him out over two thousand miles, away from family and friends, to the place of service God assigned, which is where His servant has been, and is still serving Him, as evangelist, author, and counselor. The author is a widower with three adopted children, all now married with a family of their own.

1) What is in view, when we speak of the word of God?

By the word of God is meant the Bible, consisting of 39 books in the first portion known as the Old Testament, and 27 books in the second portion, known as the New Testament. Every word contained therein IS THE WORD OF GOD! In other words, every word has been given by God, even though every word has been spoken and written down by believing men that God chose to write down His word for us as a human race.
