About this ebook

About the book
In this very important book, the author wades into a subject many would consider as controversial, especially infant baptism. After carefully examining the various baptisms - such as the baptism of John the Baptist, that of God’s own Son, that of The Holy Spirit, that of believers, and that of suffering and death - the purpose of each is clearly stated. All the difficult and hard to understand passages relating to baptism are also dealt with. This book does indeed live up to its title of removing the mystery surrounding baptism!

    INTRODUCTION

Did you know that the word baptism or baptize does not even occur in the Old Testament portion of God’s Word! Why is that? And did you know that God’s Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, after He had been born into this world as a baby was not baptized at birth, but rather was circumcised; and only as an adult did He undergo water baptism, and then only for a very important reason! Again, why was that? Why did God institute baptism in only two of the four ages of time? Why is water only involved in one form of baptism and not the other? These and many more questions surrounding baptism will be answered in this book, so that by the time we reach the end of the book, all mystery surrounding this subject will have been removed.

There are those reading this book who have been baptized as a baby; and I am one of them. And there are also those reading this who have been baptized as an adult; and I am one of them also! Confused? If you are, then it is because the subject of baptism is still a mystery to you, which further means that this book should be of help, for it was written, under God’s guiding Hand, to dispel the mystery and misunderstanding which encompasses this subject of baptism. Hopefully, this book should answer all the questions you ever did have about baptism.

And so, as we move forward in the book, we will start by defining some terms, so that we are all on the same page. We will also learn about the many different forms of baptism and what each one of them means. We will look at questions such as: Who should be baptized and when? Should we have our baby baptized at birth? If I die without being baptized, will I go to Heaven? Do I need to be baptized in order to be saved? We will also be looking at difficult and hard to understand passages of God’s Word, where baptism is mentioned, and will hopefully bring light to what was previously shrouded in mystery. After all, God gave us His Word that it might guide us through this life, so it is not in His best interest to leave us in the dark as to what certain portions of His Word mean. For one thing, God gave us His Holy Spirit that we might know the truth, as God Himself says at John 16:13 in part, But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth...

What should also be mentioned, as we bring this Introduction to a close, is that after completing twenty-one years of formal education and then spending almost twenty-eight years working in Project Engineering and Management in the Corporate offices of a large utility, God called His servant as a non-denominational evangelist in early 1999, and then sent him out over 2500 miles, away from family and friends, to the place of service God assigned, which is where His servant has been and is still serving Him as evangelist, counselor, author, editor, and publisher. The author is a widower with three adopted children, all now married.

It has also been my great pleasure to write, under God’s guiding Hand, nine Commentaries of books of the Bible, with some of these Commentaries taking from 3 to 4 years to complete. Also, there have been over 535 Devotional Commentaries on portions of the Bible, including more than 100 studies on various subjects found in the Bible. The foregoing work has been the foundation material that God has used in His servant’s counseling ministry these last 20 plus years, and also the background information to have in giving the sermon in a local church for 52 Sundays over a period of four years. And now God is using a lot of this material as background material for the writing of these books. All of this is to the glory of God alone, for the author knows full well that apart from God’s grace and power, he cannot do anything that will last for time and eternity!

A website has been established for the purpose of interacting with readers, which can be found at:

    http://www.pilgrimpathwaypublications.com

God also led His servant to establish another website specifically for gospel ministry, since the author is an evangelist. That website can be found at:

    http://www.servantofmosthigh.com

And now my prayer is that God will richly bless you as you read this book, and greatly minister to your every need in your life, as only God can! To Him be all praise, honor, and glory, with thanksgiving, for both time and for all eternity!

The difference between a believer and an unbeliever is that a believer has a personal relationship with God through faith in His Son, while an unbeliever does not!

    CHAPTER ONE

/ Defining some terms relating to the meaning of baptism and its associated words

The best place to begin is with the first occurrences of the word baptism and baptized in God’s Word at Matthew 3:1,2,5-7, looking only at the verses at this point which will help bring out the meaning of these two words, [1] Now in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, [2] Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand… [5] Then Jerusalem was going out to him, and all Judea and all the district around the Jordan; [6] and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, as they confessed their sins. [7] But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, "You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to
