‘Watch and pray’ is therefore nothing less than the demand to refine and strengthen man's ability to perceive intuitively, which is equivalent to vitalising the life of the spirit. The only eternal value man possesses is his spirit, which alone can return to the Paradise from which it issued.

Once again, the Christmas bells – the bells of peace – ring out in many countries and continents to usher in the festival of love and reconciliation and to direct our eyes and thoughts towards the birth of Christ – the Son of God, Who was sent to earth to proclaim the Truth to erring humanity, the majority of whom had turned away from God by directing their attention solely to earthly, transient things. This was a direct result of men placing their intellect, which is only a product of the earthly brain, to be used merely as a tool to facilitate life on earth, above its true master, the living spirt within man, thereby excluding it from all decision-making. This aberration, or ‘original sin’ is portrayed figuratively in the Bible as the eating of the fruit from ‘the tree of knowledge’. This means, of course, ‘earthly knowledge,’ bound to time and space, that has nothing to do with true knowledge, which can only be spiritual.
Only the spirit within man has the ability to grasp the Will of God and recognise Him in His Creation, in His Work without, of course, ever being able to stand before Him in person. For instance, we can also ‘get to know’ a great artist by studying his works, which are expressions of his will, proof of his genius, without having to meet him personally. Thus man had lost the ability to recognise Creation in an all-encompassing way because through the domination of the intellect, he ‘put his spirit to sleep’ and concentrated all his efforts on the lowest part of Creation, the physical gross-material universe, furthest away from God. The tidings already received about Creation and the Creator at a time when the intellect was less dominant, through Prophets and Called Ones, were later distorted and compressed into a narrower form which the intellect could understand; eventually all that remained was an empty shell of dogma and a plethora of rigid rules and practices.
