The author remembers days spent running on hillsides and swimming in brooks, and endless hours spent reading books that were her escape from the mundane. It was on a fateful summer day when the teenager wrote her first romantic short story as a submission for a local paper’s contest. Signed under a pseudonym, her story that told of summer and the sun, of a friendship gone beyond its limits, and heart-aching tragedy, garnered praise and the first prize for the young story-teller. She was eighteen, and on that day, she decided that she wanted to write for the rest of her life. The author is happily enjoying the married life with her husband of five years and their two young children. She is an avid traveler and has sought every opportunity to tour places halfway across the globe. While at home, the author makes it a full-time commitment to be a mom, but also spends a lot of her time coming up with new story material. She is often heard saying how difficult it is to balance being a wholesome house mom while writing erotic fiction on the side. While she outwardly claims her inspirations to be the likes of renowned novelists Lisa Kleypas and Anne Rice, she does admit to being a fan of the more current works such as those of the Fifty Shades of Grey author and the Twilight series. Katia pushed around the food on her plate despondently. Treyton took a sip of his coffee and leaned back against the back of the booth. He’d eaten everything on his plate but she’d barely touched the pancakes she’d ordered. Understandable, given the circumstances she found herself in, but it still bothered him. He’d had to practically drag her out of the apartment building so that the police could do their jobs and he’d hoped that breakfast would cheer her up. Granted, it was seven am and neither of them had slept yet.

They’d called the police immediately after she realized that she’d been robbed. Her apartment was a mess and both her laptop and digital camera had been stolen, but nothing else. The detectives who had arrived to take her statement hadn’t been very encouraging. She said she had no idea why anybody would want to steal those things from her. They’d basically told her that without a likely suspect from her acquaintances or forensic evidence the likelihood that they’d catch the culprit was relatively slim.

She had mentioned that her ex-fiance, David, had been asking about getting some of the pictures from their vacation the summer before but she didn’t think he’d break into her apartment to get them. They asked if he had a key and she told them that she’d had the locks changed after he moved out because he refused to return her key with some of his things still in the apartment. The detectives exchanged a heavy look and said that the lock didn’t look tampered with so either the perp had a key or she left the door unlocked. They asked her about her job, her stories, her schedule from earlier that day and every intimate detail of her life, looking for any reason someone would target her, but they did not seem to find anything. They told her it was likely a random break in but they would check the building’s surveillance to see if there was anything suspicious.

Then they’d turned to Treyton and asked him who he was, what he did and how he came to be with Ms. Rodgers that night. Treyton calmly and honestly answered their questions and when they learned
