About this ebook

After witnessing her best friend’s murder, Nikki has been ushered into a new reality—one of werewolves, heartless murder, and bitter vengeance—and now a handsome werewolf named Myles has revealed the truth that she has always suspected: Nikki is an X-human with the power to foreshadow. This ability to see things that were not quite human was passed down through generations to her.

The leader of the werewolves, Xavier, wants her power, though, and a bloody vendetta between Myles and Xavier is about to be settled. Now Nikki is in search of one of Myles’ former lovers, a sorceress who could help hide Nikki under the radar while she learns that her power to foreshadow is only a facet of a much larger part of herself. It is a power that has been shrouded in secrecy for millennia, one that can only be powered and released by Myles sexual touch, but it comes with Myles’ secrets being revealed to Nikki all at once. Meanwhile, she is about to look through an ancient artifact, the shroud of darkness itself, and come face-to-face with the enemy.

Author

D.C. Chagnon

D.C. Chagnon was born in a quiet little town in Tennessee, and this was also the place where her love for the romantic and exciting was born. The author remembers days spent running on hillsides and swimming in brooks, and endless hours spent reading books that were her escape from the mundane. It was on a fateful summer day when the teenager wrote her first romantic short story as a submission for a local paper’s contest. Signed under a pseudonym, her story that told of summer and the sun, of a friendship gone beyond its limits, and heart-aching tragedy, garnered praise and the first prize for the young story-teller. She was eighteen, and on that day, she decided that she wanted to write for the rest of her life. The author is happily enjoying the married life with her husband of five years and their two young children. She is an avid traveler and has sought every opportunity to tour places halfway across the globe. While at home, the author makes it a full-time commitment to be a mom, but also spends a lot of her time coming up with new story material. She is often heard saying how difficult it is to balance being a wholesome house mom while writing erotic fiction on the side. While she outwardly claims her inspirations to be the likes of renowned novelists Lisa Kleypas and Anne Rice, she does admit to being a fan of the more current works such as those of the Fifty Shades of Grey author and the Twilight series. On her off times, she can also be seen reading the more wholesome works by Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams.

I didn't know how it was even possible that I was an X-human, and with the power of what they called foreshadow. According to Myles, my mother was one of these people, and the power to see those that were not exactly human had been passed down to my generation.

Since, we had already dispatched the one that was responsible for my best friend's death, we had now turned our attention on those that were protecting Xavier. Myles didn't really want to speak about his connection with the man, but I could see that there was something deep and emotional going on behind those cold eyes. I'm not sure if I could even get used to the fact that he was a werewolf, and sometimes I had to do a double take just to make sure he was really an honest-to-goodness red-blooded American man.

You really should stop staring at me like that, or you might start to give me a complex. Myles said. I didn't mean to make him feel uncomfortable, but I was still wrapping my mind around everything that I had learned in the last few days. I know that this is a lot to comprehend, but at least you can say for certain that the person responsible for killing your friend has been brought to justice. He continued. I supposed that was one good thing that came out of this, but for the life of me I just couldn't figure out how I had managed to get caught up in this supernatural war.

Myles had told me that Xavier was coming after me, and he didn't care who got in his way.

You really have to see this from my point of view, Myles, because you can see how all of this is very hard to take in. It's not exactly like I had a lot of time to get used to this idea, and the very fact that you hid your true self has made me a little bit nervous to be around you. Just being around him felt unusual, especially considering the fact that I had just had sexual relations with the man. That was of course before I found out about his deep dark secret. I was not even sure that he really liked me, or that he had been using my body
