I ’d always known I was different. As a small child, I used to see and hear people who weren’t there.

One day, I was playing hide ‘n’ seek with my two sisters, and tucked myself away in a cupboard, giggling.

Suddenly, the door blew open. I started shivering with cold, and then a menacing voice whispered in my ear, ‘Catherine…’

Absolutely terrified, I leapt out of the cupboard and ran to find my mum – but I didn’t tell her what had happened.

I never told anyone about these encounters. I was worried they’d think I was mad!
