Author

D.C. Chagnon

D.C. Chagnon was born in a quiet little town in Tennessee, and this was also the place where her love for the romantic and exciting was born. The author remembers days spent running on hillsides and swimming in brooks, and endless hours spent reading books that were her escape from the mundane. It was on a fateful summer day when the teenager wrote her first romantic short story as a submission for a local paper’s contest. Signed under a pseudonym, her story that told of summer and the sun, of a friendship gone beyond its limits, and heart-aching tragedy, garnered praise and the first prize for the young story-teller. She was eighteen, and on that day, she decided that she wanted to write for the rest of her life. The author is happily enjoying the married life with her husband of five years and their two young children. She is an avid traveler and has sought every opportunity to tour places halfway across the globe. While at home, the author makes it a full-time commitment to be a mom, but also spends a lot of her time coming up with new story material. She is often heard saying how difficult it is to balance being a wholesome house mom while writing erotic fiction on the side. While she outwardly claims her inspirations to be the likes of renowned novelists Lisa Kleypas and Anne Rice, she does admit to being a fan of the more current works such as those of the Fifty Shades of Grey author and the Twilight series. On her off times, she can also be seen reading the more wholesome works by Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams.

    CHAPTER ONE

Candice Fowler sat at the elegant marble bar having her fifth glass of wine. Her friend, Fiona, sat next to her. The club looked elegant, there was dancing floor at the center.

Candice pinned Fiona with her glare. My last date was a disaster, Fiona. What made you think that I would be interested in that man?

You are a loner; you need a man to keep you busy. Fiona interjected.

My life is perfect the way it is,

You are not easy to please, Fiona said as she sipped her wine.

That’s why you hooked me up with a guy I didn’t like? Candice asked. She sipped the wine in her glass; she wanted to have fun and stop Fiona from hooking her up with strangers. The date was horrible and I hated it. Candice continued.

Fiona gave Candice an abashed glance. No, Candice, it wasn’t that bad. I mean, granted, he smelled a bit… woodsy.

Woodsy?! Candice sputtered. He smelled like he hadn’t bathed in months. Perhaps I could have overlooked the fragrance. Candice made a moue of disgust. Certainly he was handsome enough. If it hadn’t been for…

Fiona held up her hand before Candice could finish her sentence. I know, I know. I should have given him more information about you. That’s completely my fault.

Candice put a hand up to her aching head. I realize we librarians aren’t as well known in this millennium as we once were. I understand, truly I do. However, don’t you think, Fiona, if you were trying to find me a man, you might have at least stopped to check, and made sure your candidate knew who I was first? When he realized I wasn’t the actress from TV, he got all pouty and barely spoke to me the rest of the night!

Fiona blushed. "Yes, I probably should have thought that through better.

At least he was better than the first guy! Fiona said brightly, trying to put a positive spin on the terrible date. Candice gave Fiona an exasperated sigh.

Why did you try to set me up with a sloth?

Ralph is an old friend of mine. When he heard I was trying to find you a boyfriend, well… he volunteered. I thought you two would hit it off. I sort of forgot… Fiona said.

What did you forget, Fiona? That sloth enslaves women with poisoned sweat glands? Of course Ralph volunteered. Yuck, by the way. That was revolting. I’ve never been gladder to be invulnerable to female ailments. Why are you friends with a sloth anyway?

It’s a long story involving my ex-husband. Fiona muttered under her breath. She
