About this ebook

A tragedy has shaken the very foundations of the ideal life that Julie Trent has enjoyed with her husband and his father-in-law. Now she and Sam Trent share not only the bound of family and the love of her husband and his son, but also the pain of the loss of Sam Junior to a senseless accident. Now as they try to sort out the tragedy and put back together the pieces of their shattered lives, they find solace in each other’s friendship and peace in the new routine they have established together.

What should come from that routine however is yet to be seen. Are there lines that should not be crossed? Is it okay to cross those lines if the end result is happiness that absolves the pain of the deepest loss one can suffer? As Sam and Julie rebuild their lives will he find a comfort he has sought out for years and will she find the resolve to move on with her life and love again? The biggest question to be answered is, when given the chance will love endure despite the greatest of obstacles being in the way, the guilt of accepting what the heart truly desires?

Author

D.C. Chagnon

D.C. Chagnon was born in a quiet little town in Tennessee, and this was also the place where her love for the romantic and exciting was born. The author remembers days spent running on hillsides and swimming in brooks, and endless hours spent reading books that were her escape from the mundane. It was on a fateful summer day when the teenager wrote her first romantic short story as a submission for a local paper’s contest. Signed under a pseudonym, her story that told of summer and the sun, of a friendship gone beyond its limits, and heart-aching tragedy, garnered praise and the first prize for the young story-teller. She was eighteen, and on that day, she decided that she wanted to write for the rest of her life. The author is happily enjoying the married life with her husband of five years and their two young children. She is an avid traveler and has sought every opportunity to tour places halfway across the globe. While at home, the author makes it a full-time commitment to be a mom, but also spends a lot of her time coming up with new story material. She is often heard saying how difficult it is to balance being a wholesome house mom while writing erotic fiction on the side. While she outwardly claims her inspirations to be the likes of renowned novelists Lisa Kleypas and Anne Rice, she does admit to being a fan of the more current works such as those of the Fifty Shades of Grey author and the Twilight series. On her off times, she can also be seen reading the more wholesome works by Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams.

    Chapter One

It’s such a shame...She is so young. Mrs. Margaret Jackson said as she took a sip from her tea and looked out the window. She gave the expression of being a woman who was saddened by the gathering she was attending, but the truth was that she lived for such things. She was one of those women, the kind who lived for the tragedy and misery of others so that she could have something new to talk about. She and the other three women who were sitting by the large picture window reveled in the entertainment that they got from watching others suffer. Then dissecting every nuance of that suffering in excruciating detail to the point of ad nauseam. Everyone knew that’s what they did in this type of situation. It was similar to the adage if you wanted to get information out to the entire town you had the option of telephone, telegraph, and, in this case, tell the four old hens.

The truth of the matter was the night that Sam Junior had been killed, the hens knew about it before the family even did. Margaret Jackson had made being a town hen into an art form. She almost made it up to being a profession. She had gone so far as to buy a police and fire band radio so that she would be able to have fresh knowledge of all of the misery and suffering going on around the town sooner than everybody else.

The night she had heard about the accident that claimed Sam Junior’s life over the scanner, she was both taken aback with shock. At the same time, she was overzealous in her giddiness to begin spreading the word. She had wasted little time in picking up the phone and calling her other three hens over to her house so that they could immediately begin gathering and sharing intel on all of the details of the accident. They had learned that to stay at the heart of the matter, keeping their stories straight on how they acquired information was just as important as the speed that they spread the news.

Yes it’s true, but that means that she is still young enough to start again, Mrs. Granger said as she refilled her tea cup. She looked so prim and proper sitting there. She wondered what the rest of them would think if
