About this audiobook
For centuries, adventurers and scientists have believed that not only could we delay death but that "practical immortality" was within our reach. Today, many well-respected researchers would be inclined to agree. In a book that is not about anti-aging, but about functional aging--extending your healthy, active life--Dr. Sanjay Gupta blends together compelling stories of the most up-to-date scientific breakthroughs from around the world, with cutting-edge research and advice on achieving practical immortality in this lifetime. Gupta's advice is often counterintuitive: longevity is not about eating well, but about eating less; nutritional supplements are a waste of your money; eating chocolate and drinking coffee can make you healthier. CHASING LIFE tells the stories behind the breakthroughs while also revealing the practical steps readers can take to help extend youth and life far longer than ever thought possible.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A great read by Dr. Gupta, who is the chief medical correspondant for CNN. He relates cultural aspects of countries around the world that contribute to longevity of life. The secret to living longer is maintining a healthy weight, get cancer screenings, exersize, get 5-7 servings of fruits and veggies a day ahd reduce stress. At the end he had a chapter or two about medical advances that will allow a person in the future to "grow a new kidney" if they needed one as well as cryogenics to freeze a dead person until science has the ability to heal themselves. A very good read and inspires me to live a more healthy life.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5If you follow life extension news regularly, nothing new here for you really and the synthesis is a bit quotidian. But if you don't, this is a brief informative rundown of where the science is now.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The book has good tips and general information, but as many reviewers stated if you have been already interested in health & fitness you may not find anything new in this book. Still it serves as a good reminder and general guide for leading a healthy life style.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Terrible reading voice / cadence... I don't know. It was just such an effort to listen to him read, I may be biased by the bad listening experience in saying that I found nothing new in the advice presented. Some of it I would actually venture to say is outdated, too, such as the idea of a low fat diet as beneficial in general. Would not read again or recommend.
