Description

It’s a solo episode today friends! We put Erika in the hot seat and are chatting about WHY she isn’t your average farm wife and what that means to her, how she found her voice and identity as a wife, mother and entrepreneur and how she navigates the old school culture of the farming community. Erika shares why she actively resisted the “farm wife life” at the beginning of her marriage, the dynamics of marrying into a farm family and feeling like the farming lifestyle and passion for it was being pushed onto her and the generational impact that farming has on women. We talk about the damage of putting expectations on people without communicating, the resentment and anger that built up for her because of the expectations put on her and navigating the challenge of the farm always coming first.

She shares about struggling to fit a mold she didn’t want to be in, how her dreams changed when she became a mother, how she quickly lost her identity and had to hit pause at the “starting line of life”,  and the impactful advice she was given by a fellow farm wife that helped her to shift her perspective. Erika shares the struggle she has with being told who she should be, WHILE trying to figure out who she was, how once she figured out her role and had ownership in her life, she developed a new appreciation for farming and the impact this all had on her marriage. We talk about the importance of asking for help, delegating, communicating clearly and planning for your capacity, the freedom in choosing to accept certain things vs fighting them, HOW she found her identity again and the role becoming an entrepreneur played in it.

PLUS: the backstory of the original HER podcast, how and why we place labels on ourselves and the impact it has, learning to let go and set boundaries and the changes she would like to see in the farming community.
