THERE IS LSU FOOTBALL IN BATON ROUGE HAPPENING TODAY!!!! It's training camp football, but football nonetheless, and LSU Tigers football fans are starved for some action on the gridiron. So what should fans keep an eye on as positional battles start to unfold throughout the preseason in camp?
First, the running back room is stacked and loaded. After a thin running back room in the spring with only Noah Cain and true freshman Trey Holly, the position is back in full force. Josh Williams and Armoni Goodwin return to fall camp after nursing injuries and recovering from surgeries sustained at the end of the 2022 season. Brian Kelly said at SEC Media Days that he expects John Emery to be cleared by the NCAA to return for the start of fall camp after being academically ineligible during the spring. But it doesn't stop there; the Tigers added two transfer running backs in Notre Dame transfer Logan Diggs and Tre Bradford who makes his third appearance at LSU after transferring back to LSU from Oklahoma and sitting out this past season. So which back will emerge early? What role will each player play in a running back by committee?
In addition to the running back position, LSU enters this season with an abundance of quality starting quarterback play. Brian Kelly said after the Citrus Bowl and again at SEC Media days in mid-July that Jayden Daniels is the starter. However, he hasn't locked up the position with lock and key in a steel vault. Backup QB Garrett Nussmeier could be a starting quarterback at close to any Power Five program in the country. He is hungry for his opportunity and will be competitive in camp to close the gap between himself and Daniels. So what should fans watch throughout the QB competition?
