It has been a great start for LSU Tigers football in 2024 – head coach Brian Kelly got commitments from the #1 overall player in the 2025 class in QB Bryce Underwood to go along with the #1 wide receiver and running back in that class. LSU hired defensive coordinator Blake Baker from Missouri and defensive line coach Bo Davis from Texas who is widely regarded as the top defensive line coach in the country. Also, Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban retired from Alabama.
But it hasn't been all good. Defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo announced he would declare for the NFL Draft after LSU defeated Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl on New Years Day. Interior defensive lineman Maason Smith followed suit just over a week after. Interior defensive line is a position of need for the Tigers that becomes that much more urgent with Smith's departure.
